Abstract

This study examines the relationship between electoral systems and democratic governance in Indonesia by analyzing the implementation of democratic principles in Indonesian elections. Using a literature review methodology, this research evaluates Indonesia's electoral system against four key elements of democratic elections: competitiveness, periodicity, inclusiveness, and definitiveness. The findings reveal that while Indonesia has established strong legal frameworks and institutional mechanisms for democratic elections, challenges remain in translating campaign intensity into meaningful voter engagement. The study demonstrates that Indonesia has successfully implemented periodic leadership transitions, maintains inclusive electoral processes through comprehensive legislation, and enables citizens to exercise informed electoral choices. However, low voter participation and limited impact of candidate programs on voter preferences indicate areas requiring improvement. This research contributes to understanding democratic governance in emerging democracies and provides practical recommendations for electoral system enhancement.

Abstract

Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) are an important tool for strengthening the village economy, the success of which is highly dependent on the role of the village government. This study aims to analyze the contribution of village governments in supporting the management and development of BUMDes, identify factors that hinder the optimization of this role, and examine the extent to which local regulations such as Regional Regulations (Perda) and Regent Regulations (Perbup) of Sidoarjo Regency can serve as a strategic foundation for strengthening the function of BUMDes as drivers of the village economy. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a case study design located in Balongbendo District, Sidoarjo Regency. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and analysis of village planning documents, BUMDes reports, and relevant regulations. The research findings indicate that village governments have played a crucial role through planning, facilitating, fostering, and supervising BUMDes, but this role has not been maximized due to limited human resource capacity, weak synergy between institutions, and low community participation. While local regulations provide a sufficient legal basis, they have not been fully utilized strategically in BUMDes management. This study emphasizes the need to strengthen village government capacity and optimize the implementation of local regulations to promote the sustainability of BUMDes as the foundation of the village economy.

Abstract

The implementation of Qur'anic and Hadith values in Islamic education in Islamic Elementary Schools has long been a major concern for educators, particularly through the optimization of exemplary (uswah) and advice (mau'izhah) methods. This study aims to analyze in depth how these methods are applied in an Islamic Elementary School environment, identify the obstacles encountered, and offer recommendations for optimization strategies. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design in one Islamic Elementary School that implements education based on Qur'anic and Hadith values, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The research findings demonstrate the strategic role of exemplary and advice in the internalization of Islamic values, but their implementation faces obstacles such as inconsistency in actor behavior, lack of curriculum integration, and external cultural influences. The implementation of exemplary behavior is reflected in time discipline, congregational worship, and empathetic teacher behavior, while the advice method is carried out both formally and informally, although it is often still less contextual and hampered by external environmental influences. Success was achieved in the aspects of religious habits and strengthening student character. For optimization, this study recommends an integrative model based on the Quran and Hadith, strengthening the role of teachers, and active collaboration between schools and parents. The implications of this research are expected to make a tangible contribution to the formation of Islamic character and improving the quality of Islamic education in elementary schools.

Education serves as a fundamental pillar in developing human resources and enhancing national competitiveness, including through madrasahs as Islamic educational institutions that not only transfer knowledge but also shape students’ character and spirituality. This study aims to analyze the task-oriented leadership behavior of the principal at MTsN 1 Tulungagung and its impact on organizational effectiveness, as well as to identify the challenges and strategies in its implementation. The research focuses on how the principal plans, distributes responsibilities, supervises, and evaluates the performance of teachers and staff. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and examination of official madrasah documents. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of methods and sources, while analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that task-oriented leadership at MTsN 1 Tulungagung enhances organizational structural efficiency, academic quality, and administrative accountability. The principal emphasizes strategic planning, proportional task allocation, routine supervision, and continuous evaluation, ensuring that all educational processes run effectively and align with the institution’s vision. This approach not only strengthens productivity and work discipline but also integrates Islamic spiritual and ethical values, such as amanah (trustworthiness), ihsan (excellence), and justice, into every organizational activity. The study confirms that task-oriented leadership can serve as an effective strategy to improve the institutional quality of madrasahs, provided it is balanced with attention to social relationships and member well-being.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between access to healthcare and labour market participation in Nigeria. Three specific objectives are formulated: to ascertain the extent to which availability of healthcare affects labour market participation in Nigeria; investigate the relationship between healthcare affordability and labour market participation; and to determine the relationship between healthcare acceptability and labour market participation. The study focuses on selected communities in all the five states that make up South East Nigeria. The sample size is 358. The data were collected through structured questionnaire and analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient. The results reveal that availability of healthcare personnel and facilities has negative correlation and no significant effect on labour market participation, there is significant positive correlation between healthcare affordability and labour market participation and healthcare acceptability correlates positively and significantly with labour market participation. The study concludes that that labour market participation in rural communities in Nigeria is enhanced through healthcare affordability and healthcare acceptability. However, there is still low availability of healthcare personnel and facilities in the rural communities and this is affecting labour market participation. The study recommends that government should build more primary healthcare centers in rural communities, make health insurance scheme enforcement compulsory for all rural residents in Nigeria because when healthcare is available and acceptable, it increases access to healthcare and boosts labour market participation and productivity.

Abstract

Fasting, traditionally defined as refraining from consuming food and drink for a set duration, has been acknowledged not only as a religious or cultural practice but also as a scientifically valuable approach to promoting health. In contemporary medicine, fasting has gained significant attention due to its influence on metabolism, the immune system, and hormonal balance. Research indicates that structured fasting can enhance cellular performance via autophagy, a biological process that eliminates damaged or unnecessary cellular components, contributing to the prevention of degenerative diseases. Metabolically, fasting proves effective in regulating blood sugar levels, lowering LDL cholesterol, and increasing insulin sensitivity, thereby offering promising prospects for the prevention and management of metabolic diseases. The role of fasting in modern healthcare extends beyond physical health benefits to include systemic regulation that helps prevent chronic conditions. However, the application of fasting protocols should be customized to individual needs, particularly for specific groups such as individuals with preexisting medical conditions, pregnant women, and children.

Abstract

This article examines the normative structure of iddah maintenance in Islamic family law through an integrative framework that combines classical fiqh, maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, and Indonesian positive law. Although the Qur’an affirms the obligation to provide financial protection for women after divorce, the practice of Religious Courts in Indonesia demonstrates significant disparities in determining the amount of iddah maintenance. These irregularities arise from the lack of a clear distinction between the ta‘abbudi dimension, which is fixed and ritual in nature, and the ta‘aqquli dimension, which is rational and contextual, in understanding this legal provision. This study employs a normative legal research method using statutory, conceptual, historical, and comparative approaches. The findings indicate that the obligation of iddah maintenance is grounded in a ta‘abbudi dimension derived directly from the Qur’anic and Prophetic texts. Nevertheless, the form, amount, and mechanism of its fulfillment fall within the ta‘aqquli domain, determined by the husband’s economic capacity, the wife’s reasonable needs, and prevailing socio-economic conditions. An examination of classical fiqh reveals methodological diversity, in which the Hanafi and Maliki schools emphasize maslahah and the protection of women, while the Shafi‘i and Hanbali schools adopt a more textualist and restrictive approach. Judicial practice in Indonesian Religious Courts demonstrates a growing tendency to employ maqāṣid-based reasoning, particularly with regard to the protection of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), property (ḥifẓ al-māl), and the principle of al-ma‘rūf. This study concludes that iddah maintenance constitutes a hybrid legal norm whose obligation is fixed, while its implementation is context-dependent, and therefore recommends the formulation of more comprehensive judicial guidelines.
