Abstract

This research aims to know the effectiveness of experiential learning modules in increasing Problem solving ability of new fresh graduate employee in SDIT Assisi and Sari Asih Hospital.  This study employed a quasi-experimental research design that Pre-Post test Control Group Design was utilized in this study's experiment, in which two classes"”treatment and control class"”were used. Data collection techniques included pre and post-test, observation, and documentation.  The results of research on training using EL module show that pre and post-test results obtain a sig. value of 0.056 > 0.05 confidence level, indicating that there is no significant difference in problem-solving ability of fresh graduates using EL module afterward. Meanwhile, the results of pre and post-test in the control and treatment class obtained results with a Sig. value of 0.094 > 0.05 confidence level. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in problem-solving ability of fresh graduate employees between training used EL modules and those that didn't use EL modules.

Abstract

STEAM-based learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) is a learning approach that combines these five fields of science in one learning activity. This approach aims to develop students' critical thinking, creative and problem-solving skills. The current study seeks to analyze teacher responses in implementing STEAM-based learning media to improve the quality of learning in Riau Malay Culture subjects. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed to elementary school teachers who teach Riau Malay Culture subjects in Pekanbaru City, Riau. The research results show that teachers have a positive response to the implementation of STEAM-based learning media. Teachers assess that STEAM-based learning media can improve the quality of learning in Riau Malay Culture subjects. This is because STEAM-based learning media can make learning more interesting, interactive and meaningful for students. However, it should be noted that teachers are necessary to possess a deep understanding of the STEAM approach in order to pursue effective implementation. Therefore, there needs to be support from the school in providing the facilities and infrastructure needed to implement STEAM-based learning media.

Abstract

Efforts to continually develop the potential and skills of future teachers are crucial due to the increased demands placed upon them. This study aimed to examine the critical thinking abilities of students engaged in educational practice within vocational high schools, elucidating the challenges they encountered and proposing requisite strategies for surmounting them. Employing a quantitative descriptive approach, this research utilized surveys and focus group discussions (FGDs) as data collection instruments, validated through content validity measures. The study employe   ,;d students from the Department of Food and Clothing Education at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, participating in Educational Practices within the Tourism Group Vocational High School, alongside tutor teachers guiding them. Analysis revealed that students exhibited commendable levels of critical thinking, evidenced by their adeptness in identifying information within the school environment, searching for information to analyze prevailing issues, and discerning various problems. Notably, the predominant obstacle impeding critical thinking proficiency was Sociocentrism, with a notable majority (61.64%) identifying unwarranted assumptions stemming from mass media sources (41.10%), and relativism due to deficient literacy skills, leading to closed-mindedness (31.51%).

Abstract

The purposes of this qualitative inquiry were to explore EFL learners' challenges in online speaking and their strategies in overcoming the challenges. To collect the data, we employed semi-structured interviews and audio diary to 12 EFL learners who voluntarily participated in our study. Based on data analysis, we identified four interrelated themes and sub-themes about EFL learners' challenges in online speaking classes, such as 1) internet and technology related issues (poor connection and lack of technological knowledge); 2) linguistics issues (limited vocabulary, lack of grammatical knowledge, fluency problem, and pronunciation problem); 3) psychological issues (anxiety, low motivation and insecure); and 4 learning proponents (lack of topical knowledge and unsupportive peers). To overcome those encountered challenges, EFL learners used several strategies, including 1) Self-management (self-practice and being well-prepared); 2) helping from others (asking or having discussion with friends and asking the lecturers); and technological support (taking advantage of entertainment platforms and language applications).

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to develop integrative thematic learning materials based on the surrounding environment and evaluate their effectiveness in improving students' environmental awareness and learning autonomy. Utilizing the Borg & Gall development model, the research followed a systematic process including interviews, observations, and surveys. Validation by curriculum and subject matter experts rated the developed materials as highly suitable. The materials were implemented and assessed through limited and operational trials with elementary school students. Findings indicated significant improvements in both environmental awareness and learning autonomy, supported by paired sample t-test results showing a significance level of 0.000. Key components of the developed materials included contextually relevant syllabi, lesson plans, instructional content, and student worksheets that integrated the surrounding environment as a learning medium. These materials facilitated experiential learning, encouraging direct interaction with real-world environmental challenges. This approach not only fostered positive attitudes toward environmental care but also promoted independent learning, enhancing students' ability to manage and evaluate their own learning processes. Keywords: thematic learning, environmental integration, environmental awareness, learning autonomy, instructional materials development
