Abstract

Colostrum, the first breast milk, contains IgA antibodies, proteins, vitamin A, and anti-infection components that are essential for building the baby's immunity, especially against gastrointestinal infections such as diarrhea. The production of colostrum varies between mothers and is influenced by the frequency and strength of the baby's sucking in the early days. Oxytocin massage on the back can stimulate oxytocin and prolactin hormones, aiding the release and increasing the production of breast milk, as well as providing a relaxing effect on the mother. This method can improve the breastfeeding process. The goal of this community service is to explain the benefits of colostrum as a source of immunity for the baby through IgA antibodies and essential nutrients, as well as to demonstrate oxytocin massage as an effective method to enhance milk release and production. The method used is a lecture with leaflet media, which is effective for delivering information. The results show that many postpartum mothers do not understand the benefits of oxytocin massage, which can hinder milk release. Counseling through lectures, discussions, demonstrations, leaflets, and educational videos successfully increased mothers' understanding of oxytocin massage, which can help with relaxation, support uterine involution, and improve milk production and release. This knowledge is expected to be applied in postpartum breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

As an agrarian country, Indonesia faces serious challenges in pest control, where dependence on synthetic pesticides has led to multidimensional negative impacts on the environment, human health, and ecosystem balance. This practice is also contrary to the principles of maqashid sharia in Islamic economics, which emphasizes the protection of life, the environment, and the preservation of natural resources. This study aims to explore alternative pest control methods that are environmentally friendly, sustainable, and in accordance with Sharia values, through the use of plant-based pesticides from papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.). The methods used in this Real Work Lecture (KKN) activity included observation of agricultural conditions in the field, as well as socialization and direct demonstration of the manufacture of vegetable pesticides to farmer groups in Bandar Manik Village, Simalungun Regency. The results of the activity show that papaya leaf plant pesticides are not only effective in controlling pests, but are also easy to make, inexpensive, biodegradable, and do not cause harmful residues. From the perspective of Islamic economics, the application of plant-based pesticides is in line with the principles of maqasyid sharia, especially in preserving the environment (hifzh al-bi’ah) and human welfare, as well as supporting the realization of an agricultural system, namely, halalan thayyiban. This program is expected to be a sustainable solution for farmers to reduce their dependence on chemical pesticides while optimizing local potential in accordance with Islamic values.

Abstract

The Alvina Jaya Farmers Group in Dlemer Village, Arosbaya District, Bangkalan Regency, has significant potential in goat farming, particularly in milk production. However, the pasteurized goat milk production process still faces various obstacles, such as manual milking that is prone to contamination, traditional pasteurization using boilers that make it difficult to maintain temperature stability, simple packaging without labels, and limited marketing. Through the 2025 community service program at Trunojoyo University in Madura, assistance was provided in the implementation of modern technology in the form of automatic milking machines, pasteurization machines, and the development of labeled packaging. In addition, diversification of derivative products in the form of goat milk yogurt was also introduced. The results of the activity showed an increase in productivity, hygiene, and product shelf life, accompanied by an increase in the skills of farmer group members in production and digital marketing. The diversification of yogurt products also opened up new business opportunities with higher added value. This program not only increased the income of farmer groups but also had a social impact by providing nutritious products that are safe for public consumption.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder with a steadily increasing prevalence, often diagnosed at an advanced stage. Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) reflects the average blood glucose level over the past three months and serves as a key indicator for early detection of glucose dysregulation. This community service program aimed to optimize HbA1c screening as a simple and effective tool for early diabetes detection within the Baduy community. The activity was conducted using a Point of Care Testing (POCT) approach combined with health education focused on risk factors and diabetes prevention. A total of 59 participants aged 16–75 years underwent HbA1c and fasting blood glucose (FBG) assessments. The mean HbA1c was 4.49 ± 0.6%, and the mean FBG was 97.83 ± 23.21 mg/dL. Based on HbA1c classification, 96.6% of participants were within the normal range, while 3.4% met the criteria for diabetes. According to FBG results, 33.3% were normal, 16.2% prediabetic, and 3.6% diabetic. The prevalence of prediabetes and diabetes was higher among females than among males. An age-related increase in mean glucose levels was observed, indicating reduced insulin sensitivity in older adults. This program not only generated valuable epidemiological data but also enhanced community health literacy and strengthened the role of local health cadres in early disease detection. Community-based optimization of HbA1c screening represents a promising promotive–preventive strategy to reduce the diabetes burden and improve the quality of life in indigenous populations.

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a global health concern that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly among productive-age adults. This community program aimed to assess lipid profiles and enhance public awareness of healthy lifestyle practices as a preventive measure against metabolic syndrome. The activity was conducted at one private school, in Jelambar, West Jakarta using the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) approach, encompassing planning, biochemical screening, personalized education, and follow-up. Lipid profile assessments including total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides were performed using a point-of-care testing (POCT) method on 46 participants aged 20–63 (mean 42.36 ± 11.75 years). Results showed that most participants had normal lipid parameters: total cholesterol (67.4% normal), triglycerides (87% normal), HDL (100% normal), and LDL (91.3% optimal). Female participants had higher HDL levels, while males exhibited higher triglycerides, consistent with physiological variations influenced by sex hormones. The educational intervention effectively improved participants’ understanding of the relationship between dyslipidemia, diet, physical activity, and metabolic risk. This study highlights that combining lipid profile screening with healthy lifestyle education is an effective, practical, and applicable promotive–preventive strategy to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome and strengthen routine health screening behavior among productive adults.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) aimed to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Batu Karang Village through the adoption of digital technology, particularly the use of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) for non-cash transactions and Google Maps for improving business visibility. The program was conducted in response to the low level of digital literacy among local business actors and the continued dominance of manual, cash-based transaction systems, which often hinder efficiency and market expansion. A descriptive qualitative method was applied using a participatory approach that actively involved MSME owners in the implementation process. The activities included training on QRIS usage, assistance with business registration and location optimization on Google Maps, and ongoing digital operational support to ensure proper application. The results show that approximately 80% of MSMEs have successfully implemented QRIS as a payment method, while all participating businesses have been registered on Google Maps. The use of QRIS has improved transaction efficiency, security, and transparency, whereas Google Maps has expanded promotional reach and increased customer accessibility. Overall, this program has had a positive impact on enhancing digital literacy, strengthening business independence, and supporting sustainable, technology-based economic growth in rural areas.
