Abstract

Indonesia is a Muslim country with a total of 87% of the population being Muslim, but data from the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020 shows that the number of Al-Qur'an memorizers (Hafidz 30 Juz) in Indonesia is only around 30,000, about 0.01% of the total population of Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the management of the Al-Qur'an literacy program in creating tahfidz students at SMP Negeri 1 Cirebon City. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method and nonprobability sampling technique, purposive sampling data source collection techniques carried out by observation, interviews, and documents. Data validity testing is carried out with credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability tests. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the management of the Qur'an literacy program by implementing the POAC theory put forward by Terry proved to be very effective. The effectiveness of the program in proving to be able to create tahfidz students at SMP Negeri 1 Cirebon City began to be carried out since 2016 well with the achievement of the target of passing tahfidz 40 students in 2023. Based on this, this research is expected to provide implications for managers of other educational institutions that to create students who memorize the Qur'an does not have to form an integrated Islamic school or include Qur'an learning into the local content curriculum. But simply with the right management concept, extracurricular programs can also implement tahfidz programs well and can produce graduates who are at least literate in the Qur'an and can even become memorizers of the Qur'an.

Abstract

Pesantren-based universities present a unique educational environment where religious and cultural values strongly influence students’ academic choices. This study analyzes the factors influencing students' decision-making in selecting study programs within this context. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected through questionnaires from 22 prospective students of STIT Ar-Raudlatul Hasanah Medan for the 2024–2025 academic year. The Guttman scale measured responses across 18 decision factors, including parental direction, talent development, career, cost, peers, etc. The results show that talent development (mean = 0.91) and parental direction (mean = 0.86) were the most influential factors, followed by career considerations (mean = 0.81) and program reputation (mean = 0.73). Personal choice (0.77) and potential program advancement (0.77) also contributed significantly. In contrast, cost (0.41) and peer influence (0.55) were found to have a limited impact. The findings underscore the predominance of internal motivations and family influence over socioeconomic or peer-related variables. This study recommends that pesantren-based institutions tailor their curricula to align with students’ talents and career aspirations while fostering family involvement in academic decision-making. Future research should expand the sample size and include multiple pesantren-based institutions to ensure broader generalizability. Additionally, qualitative approaches could enrich understanding of the nuanced influence of pesantren culture on educational choices.

Abstract

School quality is an important indicator in improving the quality of education and is strongly influenced by the effectiveness of school management and the professionalism of school principals. Based on the data from the 2023-2024 Education Report Card in Weleri region public junior high schools, there has been a decline in several dimensions of school quality, reflecting the suboptimal management and leadership competence of school principals. One of the causes is the weak mastery of technology and the inability of principals to identify the needs of teachers to improve student abilities. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of digitalization of school management and principals' professional competence on school quality, both individually and in combination. The data in this study were collected through the distribution of questionnaires using a Likert scale, in accordance with the quantitative approach applied. The research sample was 119 teachers from a total population of 169 teachers in Weleri Region Public Junior High School. The analysis shows that the digitalization of school management has an effect of 76.2% on school quality, with a correlation score of 0.873. The principal's professional competence affects 75.5%, with a correlation of 0.869. Simultaneously, the two variables had a 79.9% effect on school quality, with a correlation of 0.864. The findings confirm that digitalization and leadership professionalism are crucial in improving education quality. The implications of the results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for policy makers and school principals in strengthening digital management and professional development.

Abstract

This study discusses the importance of Classroom Action Research (CAR) in improving teacher performance in senior high schools in Bantul Regency, which is a crucial aspect to improve the quality of education in the area. CAR offers a reflection-based approach and collaboration between teachers, allowing them to improve their teaching practices through an active, continuous reflection cycle. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of CAR on teacher professionalism, focusing on improving their pedagogical skills and managerial abilities in managing heterogeneous classes. This study uses a qualitative method approach, with data triangulation through observation, interviews, and documentation, to obtain a comprehensive picture of the implementation and impact of CAR in senior high schools in Bantul Regency. The study's findings indicate that CAR positively impacts the quality of teaching, collaboration between teachers, and teacher self-reflection, which leads to increased job satisfaction and teacher self-confidence. The novelty found in this study is how CAR can be implemented effectively in the local context of Bantul Regency, with its unique socio-economic challenges and education policies. However, this study has limitations regarding representing other regions and access to teacher training. Recommendations for further research are to examine comparisons between regions and explore the long-term influence of PTK on student academic performance and teacher professionalism.

Abstract

This study identifies the successful green leadership practices of a primary school principal, serving as a reference for other educational leaders in responding to the global environmental crisis. The Biographical Narrative Interpretive Method (BNIM) was employed to explore the principal's leadership journey through narrative inquiry, with data collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Findings were analysed using BNIM procedures, presented thematically, and visualised using NVivo software. The study reveals patterns of green school leadership that contribute to the development of leadership Theory through three specific technical contributions. Methodologically, this research introduces BNIM as a novel approach to exploring environmental leadership development in educational sectors. Theoretically, it establishes an operational framework for green school leadership, comprising five personal values and six measurable leadership practices. It provides a proven implementation model for effectively addressing school environmental challenges. Research contributions are demonstrated through concrete solutions to school environmental problems, including the elimination of waste bins through the universal adoption of reusable containers by students and the transformation of the school into a pilot site for cultivating 60 horticultural trees, promoting sustainable ecological learning. Additionally, six measurable leadership strategies were implemented, encompassing the establishment of vision, sharing environmental knowledge, inspirational communication, stakeholder engagement, proactive behavior, and long-term commitment. These strategies effectively address waste management challenges, promote environmental awareness within the school community, and significantly contribute to the development of green leadership practices in educational institutions

Abstract

This study examines the systemic obstacles to entrepreneurship education in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), one of Indonesia's most underdeveloped provinces. Rural institutions like SMPN 2 and SMPN 7 Sambi Rampas encounter significant obstacles: 83% of educators are untrained in entrepreneurship pedagogy, and only 21% of schools have access to entrepreneurial resources or local business networks. This research seeks to develop a pragmatic, context-sensitive educational model that enhances entrepreneurial skills among rural students. The study uses a qualitative approach involving four informants comprising school leaders, teachers, parents, and students through interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis to derive grounded insights. Research indicates that adaptive school leadership, teacher peer mentoring, and parental engagement directly impact the success of student-led microbusiness initiatives. A notable revelation deemed a “Stunning Finding” is that women-led student cooperatives in these isolated regions surpass conventional school-operated business programs regarding sustainability, participation rates, and local innovation. Experiential and problem-based learning make this innovation model viable and replicable in under-resourced communities. It contests the belief that entrepreneurial success necessitates urban infrastructure, emphasising that inclusive, community-based educational models can convert rural schools into centres of innovation and resilience. The study concludes with a proposed framework for school-based entrepreneurship that emphasises leadership, collaboration, and gender-inclusive practices within rural education systems

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) Analyze the prophetic communication method of the Madrasah Principal at MAN Kota Medan; 2) Analyze the role of the Madrasah Principal in implementing prophetic communication; 3) Identify supporting and inhibiting factors; and 4) Understand the prophetic communication model applied. The approach used is qualitative with a case study type and multi-site design. A qualitative approach with a multi-site case study method is used to deeply understand the application of the communication model. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, and analyzed using a cross-site analysis approach. The results of the study indicate that the Madrasah Principal at MAN Kota Medan applies prophetic communication based on exemplary behavior, compassion, wisdom, and empathy. Although all madrasahs refer to the principles of communication of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, each has its own uniqueness in its implementation. The role of the madrasah principal is identified as a communicative, solution-oriented, and spiritual role model, and contributes to the formation of an Islamic and harmonious madrasah culture. Supporting and inhibiting factors for prophetic communication were found to be related to leadership, madrasah culture, and HR competency. Each madrasah shows its uniqueness: MAN 1 excels in the culture of deliberation and religious programs, MAN 2 in interpersonal relationships and teacher competence, and MAN 3 in the adaptation of technology based on prophetic values. The prophetic communication model applied includes the principles of Qaulan Sadidan, Qaulan Balighan, Qaulan Maisuran, Qaulan Layyinan, Qaulan Kariman, and Qaulan Ma'rufan. This model creates a harmonious, supportive, and productive madrasah environment, while creating a learning atmosphere that is conducive to students' academic and spiritual development.

Abstract

High dependence on DIPA and BOS funds has caused Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 in Serang Regency to experience significant financial disruption since 2020. This dependence reflects the poverty crisis in education financing and the demand for new strategies to achieve financial independence for Islamic educational institutions. This study aims to technically examine how state madrasas can build an integrated and effective entrepreneurship system by optimizing internal resources and external partnerships based on a reciprocal model (reciprocal partnerships). Using a qualitative approach with a naturalistic paradigm, data was collected through in-depth interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation with the madrasah principal, administrative staff, teachers, and external partners. Analysis was conducted using interactive methods that included data reduction, data presentation, and iterative conclusion drawing. The results show that the madrasah successfully achieved 80% of its self-financing target by utilizing cooperatives, a canteen, the Zakat Management Unit (UPZ), foster child programs, and collaboration with institutions such as the Banten Provincial Library and Archives Office. The implemented reciprocal partnership model has proven effective in expanding networks, strengthening literacy, and supporting educational programs without relying solely on the state budget. The main novelty of this research lies in the reciprocal partnership model within the context of religious-based state madrasahs, which has not been widely explored in the Islamic education management literature. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of visionary and entrepreneurial-oriented madrasah leadership in building an autonomous, adaptive, and financially sustainable institutional culture.

Abstract

Research that explicitly explores the relationship between the humanistic approach in Islamic Religious Education and the formation of students' religious maturity remains very limited. This gap highlights the need for further investigation, both theoretically, to understand how humanistic principles relate to adolescent religious development, and practically, to design effective instructional strategies in increasingly pluralistic school environments. Moreover, the application of the humanistic approach in the management of Islamic Religious Education learning, especially at the senior high school level, has not been extensively studied. This study aims to provide an exploratory overview of the management of Islamic Religious Education learning through a humanistic approach in senior high schools. A qualitative method was employed, involving interviews with four teachers across four different schools. The data were analyzed using NVivo version 15. The findings indicate that teachers have applied humanistic-based learning management to foster students' religious maturity, starting from the planning stage to implementation and evaluation. However, several challenges remain, including students' low awareness of worship practices, uneven levels of religious consciousness, and limited supporting facilities. This research recommends strengthening teacher training and institutional support to ensure the optimal implementation of the humanistic approach in PAI learning.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic role of Islamic digital leadership in human resource management at SMK Mandiri Pontianak, focusing on innovation and technological adaptation. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews with the principal, vice principals, and IT staff. The findings reveal that the principal integrates Islamic values such as amanah (trustworthiness), musyawarah (deliberation), and ihsan (excellence) into digital leadership practices to strengthen governance, internal communication, and decision-making processes. The use of digital platforms—such as academic information systems and collaborative applications—is aimed at efficiency and reflects values of transparency, justice, and collective responsibility within the ethical framework of Islamic leadership. A participatory and innovative school culture is fostered through online teacher training and promoting spiritually grounded, technology-based learning practices. Challenges such as limited infrastructure and digital skill gaps are addressed through ukhuwah (Islamic solidarity)  manifested in peer support systems, such as more tech-savvy teachers assisting others, and communal sharing of digital devices. Capacity building was conducted through periodic in-house training, digital literacy workshops, and one-on-one mentoring, with post-training surveys indicating that 85% of teachers and 78% of administrative staff experienced improved digital performance. Moral and material support included the provision of internet quotas, recognition for innovative teachers, and spiritual motivation through Islamic-themed digital leadership meetings. The novelty of this study lies in the systematic integration of Islamic values into digital leadership practices within the vocational education context, expanding the application of transformational and distributed leadership theories through an Islamic lens. This research contributes to developing an Islamic value-based digital leadership model in vocational schools.
