Abstract

Character education tended to be co-opted by religious values through numerous conceptual and practical approaches. This study underscored the co-optation of religion in the character education process as applied at an Islamic boarding school. The didactic stages were trapped to articulate religious-based character only; thus, the complex meanings of character were narrowed by overlooking other potential principles. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation using the institution’s curriculum design. The findings indicated that leaders and teachers had a significant role in co-opting religious values for conceptualizing the schooling program. This was revealed in the curriculum content encompassing dominant spiritual standards. Equally, students' understanding of character appeared to be constructed by devout teachings. A slight character interpretation was exposed by religious perspectives co-opted by leaders, teachers, and curriculum. Therefore, the slender construal of character was disposed disregarding further principles having valuable points. This study recommended the need for stakeholder consideration, especially educational institutions, and Islamic boarding schools, for accommodating other values in shaping the pupils’ character, thus they were capable to compete with increasingly constricted global changes dynamically.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of Green Market Orientation (GMO) and Management Commitment (MC) on Firm's ESG Performance (FEP), with Aggressive Low Carbon Innovation (ALCI) as a mediating variable. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a correlational design, the study analyzes data from 59 top management in Pertamina group. The Partial Least Squares (PLS)-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method was employed to examine complex causal relationships among latent variables, even with a small sample size. The findings reveal that Management Commitment has a significant direct effect on Firm's ESG Performance, while Green Market Orientation significantly influences Aggressive Low Carbon Innovation. However, Aggressive Low Carbon Innovation only mediates the relationship between Management Commitment and Firm's ESG Performance, with no significant mediation observed for the relationship between Green Market Orientation and Firm's ESG Performance. These results underscore the critical role of management commitment in enhancing ESG performance and highlight the need for a more integrated approach to sustainability strategies to maximize the impact of low-carbon innovation. This study contributes to sustainability-related literature by demonstrating how internal firm factors, such as green market orientation and management commitment, affect the successful implementation of ESG strategies. Future research should consider additional factors, such as policy support, industry-specific dynamics, and green technology adoption, to strengthen the relationships among these variables and enhance ESG outcomes.

Abstract

The curriculum also causes problems with student growth and development in schools. Complaints about students’ mental health have recently emerged as an issue among education observers. Content that is too difficult or irrelevant to students’ daily lives can cause confusion, tension, and a lack of motivation to learn. This study aims to understand how the implementation of a curriculum centered on students’ mental health. This study uses a qualitative type,  with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana data analysis techniques. The results of the study showed that the implementation of a curriculum centered on students’ mental health was carried out through activities for morning discussions, activities using innovative games to help students emotionally, cooperative activities in building bridges, monitoring activities, and the use of camping activities to develop social and emotional skills. These activities have a positive impact on students’ mental health. These findings confirm that integrating mental health-based activities in the curriculum supports students' psychological well-being but also improves students' social and academic skills. Abstract

The rising incidents of violence and discrimination under the guise of religion in Indonesian society emphasize the need for effective educational strategies to foster social harmony. This study investigates the implementation of religious moderation as a strategy for anti-discrimination education in Islamic school management, with a focus on SMAN 1 Ponorogo. Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that religious moderation, rooted in the concept of “wasathiyah” (balance), serves as a critical framework for nurturing tolerance, empathy, and respect among students of diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds. The school’s management plays a pivotal role in sustaining these values through strategic policies, including curriculum integration, multicultural education, teacher training, and clinical supervision. Student testimonies and teacher reflections illustrate the tangible impact of these initiatives, with students developing emotional resilience and forming close bonds across religious lines. The research highlights that religious moderation not only enhances school harmony but also has broader societal implications, acting as a preventive measure against radicalism and contributing to national unity. The study underscores the need for continued policy support, community engagement, and ongoing professional development to ensure the long-term sustainability of religious moderation as a cornerstone of peace education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research highlighted two objectives, namely: (1) how Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta managed its human capital in relation to its vision, missions, and goals as an Islamic university; (2) strategic plans employed by this university and key performance of its human resources to fulfill the implementation of human capital management in the efforts of achieving excellent accreditation. This study was carried out in the academic year of 2023/2024 at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. The method employed was qualitative using study case research design. The instruments used in data collection were observation, document study, and non-formal interviews. The data were analyzed based on human capital management’s model of Mayo (2000) covering five elements, i.e., individual capability, individual motivation, leadership, the organizational climate, and work-group effectiveness. The analysis data revealed that: 1) in managing its human capital, the university carried out five work stages, they are the stages of preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, control and improved which of all stages met the five aspects of Mayo’s HCM model. Second, both strategic plans and key performance for its human resources were well-planned, designed, and managed by the institution, hence the target of achieving excellent accreditation was successfully achieved.

Abstract

This study aims to explore marketing strategies implemented by Islamic higher education institutions through a structured literature review method. This method was chosen to assess the extent and depth of research related to this theme. A systematic search was conducted on journal articles published in the period 2014–2023 from the Google Scholar, Emerald Insight, and Springer Link databases. The selection focused on articles from journals indexed by Scopus or Sinta and those most relevant to the research objectives. The findings indicate that although interest in marketing strategies in Islamic higher education institutions is increasing, research in this area is still in its infancy and lacks strong theoretical integration. The main strategies identified include digital marketing, promotional mix, social marketing, Islamic branding, and experiential marketing. These approaches are considered effective in attracting prospective students and strengthening institutional visibility. However, most of the reviewed studies still lack empirical validation and contextual adaptation, especially within the cultural and religious framework of Islamic education. The findings of this study provide practical insights for institutional leaders and contribute to academic discourse by highlighting emerging themes and gaps in the literature. Limitations of this study include the limited scope of the database and the lack of representation of non-English language sources. Future research needs to build a robust theoretical model and explore the application of contextual strategies to improve marketing effectiveness

Abstract

Madrasahs in Indonesia frequently face financial limitations due to minimal government support, unlike public schools that rely heavily on state funding. This condition demands that madrasahs become more independent and innovative in sourcing financial support, particularly through active community participation. This study aims to analyze the sources of community-based financing and the role of Islamic philanthropy in sustaining madrasah education. The research focuses on two senior Islamic schools Madrasah Aliyah Teungku Chiek Oemar Diyan and Al Manar within Islamic boarding schools in Aceh Besar District. A qualitative field research approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. Findings reveal that the primary sources of financing include contributions from students’ parents, the general community, educational foundations, self-managed pesantren enterprises, and Islamic philanthropic resources such as zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf. These financial sources are managed under principles of transparency, internal and external accountability, and ethical governance. Such management practices have led to enhanced community trust and increased participation in madrasah development. This study concludes that community-based financing, when supported by faith-driven values and transparent administration, presents a sustainable model for improving madrasah quality, especially in regions with limited government budget allocations for Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the performance of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers in managing BK services based on an Islamic perspective at SMK Karya Nasional Kuningan, as well as to identify the effectiveness and challenges of its implementation. The research method employed was a mixed-methods approach, combining in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and quantitative surveys with a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire completed by 150 students and 30 teachers. The results of the study indicate that BK services have been effective in meeting students' needs in character development and understanding Islamic moral values, such as honesty and responsibility. Quantitative evaluation reveals a significant correlation between the integration of Islamic values and student satisfaction with the services. However, challenges were also identified, including gaps in understanding Islamic values, limited teacher training, and negative stigma towards BK services, which hinder the optimization of the program. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of enhancing BK teacher training, socializing Islamic values to students and parents, and providing sustained institutional support to improve the effectiveness of BK services. The findings contribute to the development of holistic and adaptive religion-based counseling services within an Islamic perspective.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of “instructional leadership, learning community, and teacher efficacy” on “learning quality’ in Madrasah Aliyah Swasta in Batang Regency. Utilizing a survey method, this study adopted a quantitative approach. All private Islamic senior high school (Aliyah Madrasah) teachers in Batang Regency formed the population for this research. From this population, a sample of 137 individuals was chosen using simple random sampling. A validated and reliable Likert scale questionnaire served as the data collection instrument. Then the data were analyzed by utilizing linear regression analysis. The results of data analysis show that partially and simultaneously, instructional leadership, learning community, and teacher efficacy have a positive and significant effect on learning quality. Instructional leadership applied by madrasah principals is able to encourage teachers to improve learning quality. An active learning community plays a role in strengthening collaboration and developing teacher professionalism. Meanwhile, high teacher efficacy contributes to the implementation of more effective and innovative learning. Thus, improving the quality of learning in Private Aliyah Madrasahs needs to be done through strengthening instructional leadership, fostering a dynamic learning community, and increasing teacher efficacy on an ongoing basis.
