Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the phenomenon of polite language use by university students in campus environments from the perspectives of Islamic morals and social formality. Polite language in academic settings mirrors communication ethics, moral values, and respect for interlocutors. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected via observation, and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. Findings indicate that students recognize the importance of proper Indonesian language use as respect for lecturers and positive self-image building. Internal awareness, cultural backgrounds, and family habits influence politeness application in academic communication. However, politeness tends to decline in informal contexts like social media due to expressive freedom. The research affirms that language politeness is not merely social formality but integral to Islamic akhlak, essential for harmonious and character-building campus environments. Recommendations urge campuses to strengthen language ethics education for consistent implementation across communication contexts.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the main objectives of mathematics learning. However, many students have not developed these skills optimally. The application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model combined with Wordwall media with local cultural nuances of Medan City is expected to help improve these skills. This study aims to prove the effectiveness of the PBL model assisted by Wordwall on students' critical thinking skills. This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental design of the non-equivalent control group design. The results showed a significant increase between students' pretest and posttest scores in the experimental class. The average posttest score of the experimental class was also higher than that of the control class. Thus, the PBL model assisted by Wordwall with local cultural nuances is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

In the era of digital transformation, prospective teachers are expected to master adaptive and innovative teaching competencies, particularly in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into learning processes. Mathematics instruction at the elementary level, which is often perceived as abstract, demands creative and contextual approaches that align with students’ developmental characteristics. This community service program was designed to strengthen the professional capacity of prospective mathematics teachers through intensive mentoring on the utilization of AI in lesson planning, instructional media development, and assessment design. Conducted face-to-face at STKIP Pangeran Antasari, the program employed training, hands-on practice, collaborative discussions, and sustained mentoring. The program outcomes demonstrate significant improvements in students’ abilities to apply AI in an effective, creative, and ethical manner, supporting the development of interactive, contextual, and student-centered learning in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum. This initiative contributes strategically to preparing innovative and future-ready mathematics teachers capable of responding to the challenges of digital-era education.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the capacity of Master of Economics students in developing research proposals for theses worthy of submission for grants. The main challenges faced by students are a lack of understanding of the differences between a thesis proposal, a research proposal, and a grant proposal, as well as limited knowledge regarding research grant application mechanisms. This situation results in low-quality proposals and minimal student participation in research funding schemes. The program was conducted as an interactive workshop using training and consultation methods, including presentations, case study discussions, proposal preparation simulations, and evaluation and reflection. The material covered proposal structure and systematics, grant assessment criteria (novelty, relevance, methodology, and practical implications), and internal and external grant application mechanisms. The results showed that participants were able to comprehensively understand proposal structure, explain research grant mechanisms, and produce draft thesis proposals ready for further development. The short-term impact of this activity is increased student confidence in designing thesis research, while the medium-term impact is expected to be an increase in the number and quality of proposals submitted to funding institutions. Thus, this activity contributes to strengthening academic independence and a culture of grant-based research within the master's program.

Abstract

This community service program was designed to strengthen students’ financial literacy and foster saving behavior through the socialization of the Student Savings Account (Tabungan Pelajar/SimPel) offered by Bank Sumut. Financial literacy is widely recognized as a fundamental competency that influences individual financial decision-making and long-term economic well-being. Nevertheless, national survey data indicate that financial literacy levels among Indonesian students remain relatively low, emphasizing the urgency of structured financial education from an early age. The program was implemented at Yayasan Dharma Wanita Persatuan School, North Sumatra Province, involving elementary and junior high school students. The implementation employed an educative-participatory approach consisting of preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The activities included interactive lectures, contextual financial education sessions, saving simulations, group discussions, and structured pre-test and post-test assessments to evaluate cognitive improvement.The results demonstrated a measurable enhancement in students’ understanding of fundamental financial concepts, the advantages of utilizing formal banking services, and the procedures for opening student savings accounts. The average post-test score increased by 35% compared to the pre-test score, indicating a significant improvement in financial literacy. Furthermore, students exhibited stronger motivation and intention to open student savings accounts, reflecting positive behavioral tendencies toward financial responsibility. In conclusion, this program contributes to advancing regional financial inclusion and aligns with national financial literacy development strategies. Sustainable institutional collaboration between educational institutions and banking sectors is essential to ensure long-term behavioral transformation and continuous financial education reinforcement among students.

Abstract

Financial management and financial planning are essential skills for young people. However, the 2024 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK) indicates that the financial literacy level of adolescents, including junior high school students, remains below the national average. Therefore, this community service program aimed to improve the understanding of financial management and financial planning among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Tuntang through an interactive educational approach. The program was conducted on April 25, 2025, using lectures and interactive discussions supported by presentation media. The implementation consisted of a preparation stage involving coordination with the school and material development, an implementation stage covering topics such as saving habits, distinguishing needs from wants, pocket money management, basic investment concepts, and consumer behavior, complemented by an educational auction simulation using virtual balances, and an evaluation stage through participant observation and question-and-answer sessions. The results showed that students were enthusiastic and actively participated throughout the program. Most participants were able to explain the differences between needs and wants, the benefits of saving, strategies for managing pocket money, and basic investment concepts. Furthermore, students demonstrated an increased interest in developing saving habits and managing their expenses more wisely. The combination of lectures, discussions, and educational auction simulations proved effective in enhancing students’ financial awareness and understanding within a short period. This program also contributed to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Future programs are recommended to incorporate pre-tests and post-tests to measure effectiveness more objectively and to involve financial practitioners or representatives from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to provide more comprehensive and practical financial education.

Abstract

This community service article describes a financial literacy program through early saving habituation for children at Sinar Jaya Indonesia Orphanage in Medan. The program was conducted on 8 June 2026 by a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Prima Indonesia. The activity aimed to improve children's understanding of money functions, needs and wants, saving discipline, and simple financial planning. The method used was a participatory educational approach involving observation, interactive counseling, discussion, saving simulation, practice with piggy banks, and descriptive evaluation. The population consisted of children living at the orphanage, while the sample included participants who attended the activity. Instruments included observation sheets, discussion guides, saving target cards, and documentation. The results showed that participants were enthusiastic, able to identify needs and wants, understood the importance of saving from small amounts, and practiced saving commitments using simple media. The activity indicates that early saving culture can strengthen financial literacy and support children's independence in orphanage environments.

Abstract

Community Service Program (KKN) serves as a platform for university students to contribute to society through educational and empowerment activities. One of the programs conducted in Kumpulrejo Village involved recycled art activities and a volcano eruption experiment designed for children. This initiative aimed to enhance children's creativity, environmental awareness, and basic scientific understanding through engaging and interactive learning experiences. The program was implemented using a participatory approach that included explanations, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and direct assistance from KKN students. Through recycled art activities, children were encouraged to transform used materials into creative and useful products, fostering both imagination and environmental responsibility. Meanwhile, the volcano eruption experiment introduced simple scientific concepts in an enjoyable and accessible manner. The outcomes indicated that the children actively participated and showed great enthusiasm throughout the activities. Overall, the program provided meaningful learning experiences while supporting the development of creativity, environmental consciousness, and science literacy among children in Kumpulrejo Village.

Abstract

Oil palm is one of Indonesia's leading plantation commodities that plays an important role in supporting the national economy and providing employment opportunities. Improving the competence of students in oil palm cultivation is essential to prepare skilled human resources capable of meeting the needs of the plantation industry. This community service program aimed to enhance students' knowledge and practical skills through training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) at PTPN IV Regional I Air Batu Estate. The program was implemented using lectures, field demonstrations, interactive discussions, hands-on practice, and evaluations through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students' understanding of oil palm cultivation practices, including nursery management, fertilization, weed management, integrated pest and disease control, harvesting techniques, and occupational safety. The average score increased from 61.5 to 86.7, representing a gain of 25.2 percentage points after the training. Students also demonstrated high enthusiasm and active participation throughout the program. This activity successfully strengthened students' technical competencies and practical experience, preparing them for future careers in the oil palm plantation sector.

Abstract

 With the advancement of digital technology in education, teachers must possess the ability to create learning experiences that are innovative, interactive, and aligned with the needs of 21st-century students. However, digital limitations remain a barrier to the development of technology-based learning media. This community service initiative aimed to enhance teachers' skills in creating interactive learning media using the Wordwall application. The program incorporated hands-on practice, mentoring, outcome evaluation, and training sessions. Participants included primary and secondary school teachers from various subject areas. The results indicated that participants gained a better understanding of interactive learning media concepts and became proficient in creating Wordwall-based media ready for classroom use. Throughout the training, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm and provided positive feedback. Wordwall is considered an effective alternative for learning media, as it boosts student learning motivation and encourages active participation. Consequently, this initiative successfully improved teachers' digital competencies and fostered a learning environment that is more interactive, creative, and student-centered.
