Abstract

Abstract

Community-based approaches to waste management are increasingly positioned as solutions to the governance and fiscal constraints facing local governments in Indonesia. Yet the conditions under which such approaches genuinely transform service relationships rather than merely extending government reach through unpaid community labor remain underexamined. This study analyzes co-production practices in the Si BESUT waste management program in Kaliwungu Village, Jombang Regency, through the six-principle framework of Slay and Robinson (2011). Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven purposively selected informants representing government agencies, landfill management, community coordinators, and environmental cadres, supplemented by observation and documentation review. The findings confirm that all six co-production principles are empirically present in Kaliwungu. However, their realization is uneven and structurally ambivalent. Co-production reaches most deeply those who are already organized, while less-connected residents remain peripheral. The relational architecture remains asymmetric: communities co-deliver services but do not co-design them, and the program's sustainability rests on contingent conditions key individual leadership, unpaid volunteer labor predominantly performed by women, and consistent government facilitation none of which are institutionally guaranteed. The study contributes to the co-production literature by moving beyond affirmative accounts of participation to identify the boundary conditions under which community-based co-production falters: when social capital is thin, when key-person dependency substitutes for institutional capacity, when facilitation is driven by austerity rather than governance principle, and when program benefits are concentrated among the already-engaged. These findings offer theoretically grounded guidance for the design of more resilient, equitable, and institutionally sustained co-production arrangements in local waste governance.

Abstract

This study presents the development and evaluation of the Eco-Innovation Toolkit for Sustainable Urban Villages (EcoIT-SUV) as a socio-technical intervention for community-based environmental innovation. The research aims to design a participatory and operational toolkit that enables local residents in Surabaya’s urban villages to manage ecological innovation through collaborative learning and structured planning. Using an action research approach, the study engaged residents and experts in two stages: participatory development through focus group discussions and expert evaluation using quantitative and qualitative feedback. The results show that EcoIT-SUV effectively enhances green dynamic capability, fosters environmental innovation, and integrates local social structures with technological practices. Expert evaluations using the Friedman test indicate consistent material and design quality across indicators, validating its readiness for community application. This study contributes to understanding how socio-technical systems can support urban sustainability through participatory design and localized innovation management.

Abstract

The management of fishery resources in Lake Sidenreng faces various challenges in the form of high exploitation pressure, less selective use of fishing gear, and weak integration between formal institutions and community-based management practices. These conditions have the potential to affect the sustainability of fishery resources and the welfare of the fishing community. This study aims to analyze the sustainability status of fishery resource management in Lake Sidenreng and formulate a management model based on local ecological knowledge of the community. The research was carried out in November 2025 – January 2026 using a survey method through in-depth interviews guided using questionnaires and focus group discussions (FGD) with 44 respondents consisting of stakeholders and fishermen. Data analysis was carried out using the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method with the RAP-Amen approach, leverage analysis, and Monte Carlo. The results show that the ecological dimension with an index value of 62.5 and the social dimension with an index value of 65.7 are included in the category of quite sustainable, while the economic dimension with an index value of 48.3, technology with an index value of 42.8, and law and institutions with an index value of 45.2 are still classified as less sustainable. Sensitive attributes that affect sustainability the most include net size, fishing season, fisher income, knowledge transfer, strengthening local institutions, and fishing gear selectivity. Local ecological knowledge of fishing communities plays an important role in setting fishing seasons, selective fishing gear selection, and protecting fish habitats, but has not been optimally integrated into formal policies. Therefore, the recommended management model emphasizes on strengthening local ecological knowledge, strengthening the fishermen's economy based on environmentally friendly technology, and strengthening local institutions through a co-management approach. The integration between local knowledge and formal management systems is expected to be able to realize sustainable, adaptive, participatory, and community-based fisheries management in Lake Sidenreng.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the gig economy and platform-based work has transformed labor markets by increasing flexibility while simultaneously intensifying labor market uncertainty and employment insecurity, raising concerns about mental well-being and emotional demands. This study aims to map and synthesize the scholarly literature on gig work under labor market uncertainty, with a particular focus on worker well-being and emotional demands in platform-based employment. A bibliometric review design is applied following the PRISMA 2020 framework, using Scopus as the database source. A total of 83 English-language peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2016 and 2025 were identified through a structured Boolean search and analyzed using publication trend analysis and VOSviewer-based thematic mapping. The findings reveal a significant increase in publications after 2020, indicating growing academic attention to gig work, employment insecurity, and worker well-being. The literature is highly interdisciplinary, spanning social sciences, business, economics, psychology, and labor studies, with major contributions from developed economies. Three dominant thematic clusters are identified: algorithmic management and job insecurity, institutional protection and labor flexibility, and mental health, precariousness, and emotional well-being. The results highlight that gig work is increasingly conceptualized as a condition of persistent labor market uncertainty with important behavioral consequences. This study contributes by advancing a behavioral–structural perspective that links platform labor conditions, employment insecurity, worker well-being, and emotional demands, while offering a foundation for interdisciplinary research and policy efforts to strengthen social protection and platform labor regulation.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of fishery resources in Merauke Regency, South Papua Province, to contribute to national food security using a convergent parallel mixed-methods design, integrating quantitative secondary data including production and economic contribution, with qualitative evidence from fishers, traders, and government stakeholders. The analysis reveals that despite the sector had a significant decrease of production after the 2014 fishing moratorium, the sector still has a high surplus of food other than local consumption and is a major contributor to regional GRDP, indicating a strong latent potential for food security. The study further exposes a governance paradox: the harvesting of high-value fish swim bladders leads to the waste of marketable fish meat, a behaviour that is economically rational for individual fishers but detrimental to collective food security and blue economy goals. This paradox is not only a descriptive finding, but a contribution to theory of sustainable fisheries governance. It explicates how misaligned incentives between individual livelihood strategies and collective stewardship of a resource—a classic common-pool resource dilemma—are reproduced and sustained even under existing conservation policy. Moreover, it demonstrates how integrating quantitative and qualitative evidence can reveal governance dynamics invisible to single-method studies. Based on these insights, the study proposes stakeholder-specific interventions, including transparent pricing mechanisms for swim bladders, partnership-based incentives for sustainable practices, technology support for small-scale fishers, and investment models for empowering indigenous communities. The study thus contributes theoretically to blue economy and food security scholarship and practically to food sovereignty in resource-rich but institutionally constrained areas.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital technologies has transformed social interaction while simultaneously generating ethical challenges, including misinformation, hate speech, social polarization, and identity conflicts. Despite growing scholarly interest in digital ethics and intergroup relations, no comprehensive bibliometric study has systematically mapped the intellectual structure, collaboration patterns, and thematic evolution of this field. This study addresses this gap through a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed publications. Data were retrieved using the keywords “ethics,” “intergroup relations,” and “digital society,” covering 2016–2026 and selected through the PRISMA 2020 framework. From 336 identified records, predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria based on publication type, year, language, and open-access eligibility produced 101 eligible articles. Bibliometric analyses were conducted using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix in RStudio to examine publication trends, collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic evolution. Results indicate a transition from pandemic-focused digital communication studies toward social identity, trust, sustainability, leadership, corporate social responsibility, and ethical digital governance. Developed countries remain dominant in scientific influence, whereas Indonesia demonstrates increasing research productivity and international visibility. The principal contribution of this study is a comprehensive knowledge map identifying emerging research clusters, collaboration networks, and thematic shifts that clarify the intellectual development of ethics and intergroup relations in digital society globally.
