Abstract

The   aim   of   this   research   was   to   examine   the   influence   of   several encapsulants  in encapsulating citric  acid  used as acidifier  on protein digestibility and  metabolizable   energy   in broilers.   The  materials   used  in  this  research   were  20 broilers   of  21  days   of  age,   liquid   citric   acid  and  encapsulated   citric   acids.   The encapsulants     used   were   maltodextrin,     lactoglobulin     and   zeolite.    Broilers    were randomly   allotted   to five   dietary   treatments   with  4 replication    each.   The  variables observed     were    crude   protein    digestibility   (DCPmanure    and    DCP/aecaiJ.    apparent metabolizable   energy  (AME) and  apparent  metabolizable   energy  corrected  N  (AMEn). Data  were  analyzed   by using  Completely   Randomized   Design.   The difference   among the treatments   was further  tested  by using Duncan  Multiple   Range   Test.  The result of this  research   showed   that   while   citric  acid  encapsulated    with   maltodextrine   gave significantly    different    effect   (P<0.05)    and   the   highest   crude   protein    digestibility (DCPmanurd.   citric  acid  encapsulated   with  either  lactoglobulin   and  and  maltodextrine gave  significantly  highest   results  on  digestibility   (DCP1aecaiJ  (P<0.05)    and  AME  and AMEn   (P<0,01).     It  can   be   concluded   that   maltodextrin    was   the   best   choice   of encapsulant for  citric  acid  based  on the highest protein   digestibility   and  metabolizable energy (JIIPB  2009 Vol  19 No 1: 1-9). Key  words   :   Citric  Acid,  Encapsulation,    Protein  Digestibility,    Metabolizable    Energy, Broiler

Abstract

The study aims to utilizing mollases as reducing sugar to bind ammonia from urea through maillard reaction in high temperature as a source of Non-protein nitrogen (NPN) slow release in order to improve the efficiency of NPN and of the avaibility of total protein. The study used mollases and cow rumen fluid from Ungaran slaughterhouses. The method of the study was factorial complate random design with 2x3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were A0B1 (mollases-urea non heated 1 hour incubation), A0B2 (mollases-urea non heated 3 hour incubation), A0B3 (mollases-urea non heated 5 hour incubation), A1B1 (mollases-urea heated 1 hour incubation), A1B2 (mollases-urea heated 3 hour incubation) and A1B3 (mollases-urea heated 5 hour incubation). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that NH3, Volatile Fatty Acids (VFA) and total protein production in different hours of incubation were significant (P<0,05), meanwhile production in mollases heat treatment and interaction between them were not significant (P>0,05). The longer the time of incubation, the lower the production. The highest NH3production was found at one hour of time of incubation. The VFA and total protein productions increased along with the increasing time of incubation with highest production was found at 5 hours of time of incubation. Keywords : Slow release, maillard reaction, NH3, VFA, protein total

Abstract

This research was conducted to examine egg quantity and quality of Silver and Gold Arabic chicken (Gallus turcicus). The materials used in this study were 30 Silver and 30 Gold Arabic chicken aged 8-9 months which had mean of initial body weight were 1,93±0,13 and 2,00±0,15 kg respectively. The method was experiment on two groups of Arabic chicken based on feather color (Silver and Gold). Data was analyzed by unpaired t test. The study shows that egg weight of Gold Arabic chicken (46.81±2.41 g) was significantly heavier (P<0.01) than that of Silver Arabic chicken (42.75±2.22 g). However, there were no significant difference on egg number, egg index, yolk color eggs, yolk protein content, yolk fat content, and Haugh units among these two chickens. It could be concluded that Gold Arabic chicken could produce heavier egg weight than the Silver one although there were no differences on egg number, egg index, yolk color eggs, yolk protein content, yolk fat content, and Haugh units. The study suggests breeding Gold Arabic chickens due to its egg weight production. Keywords: Arabic chicken, feather color, quantity and quality eggs

Abstract

The aim of this study to determine the best solvent for noni fruits (Morinda citrifolia L.) extraction processes that can reduce the growth of ruminal protozoa and gas production. This reaserch used a nested on randomized block design with 2 factors of treatment and 3 groups as replicates, if there was significant different would be tested by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test Methode. EM was noni fruits extract which methanol used as solvent, and EA was noni fruits extract which aquadest used as solvent. The result show that the number of protozoa and gas production were decreased on additional of noni fruits extract with methanol solvent (P<0,05). The conclusion of this research is the used of methanol is the best solvent in noni fruits extraction processes to reduce a number of ruminal protozoa and increase of degradability.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe milk quality of Friesian crossbred dairy cow and to know the influential variables of milk quality at Agro Niaga Cooperative in Jabung Malang. The research materials were 94 Friesian crossbred dairy cow’s milk in 3 milk collecting centers which were located in three locations i.e. Sidomulyo (n=29), Slamparejo (n=30) and Kemiri (n=35). The research method was survey to 94 dairy farmers. Milk qualities consisted of density and fat which were measured by milk analyzer lactoscanner, also milk grade which was determined by reduction time. The results showed that 74% of sample had milk density 1.024 g/ml; 100% of sample had more than 3% of fat and 84% of sample was categorized as 1st grade because their reduction time was more than 5 hours. Milk density increased by adding concentrate (R2=0.022), while milk fat decreased by adding concentrate (R2=0.110). The higher the subclinical mastitis rate the higher the milk fat (R2=0.110). Milk sample which was in 1st grade came from farmers who cleaned their stall floor 3 times per day.   Keywords: Sanitation, milk quality, dairy cow

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan tepung kunyit dalam air minum terhadap konsumsi pakan, bobot badan dan konversi pakan. Materi yang digunakan adalah 3800 ekor ayam pedaging umur 15 hari. Didasarkan konsumsi pakan hariannya, penelitian ini didesain untuk membuat 5 perlakuan, yaitu pakan basal (P) dan berturut-turut penambahan 0,125%, 0,250%, 0,375%; 0,500%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan tepung kunyit dalam air minum secara signifikan berpengaruh (P<0,01) terhadap konsumsi pakan dan bobot badan, tetapi tidak berpengaruh (P>0,05) terhadap konversi pakan. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan tepung kunyit dalam air minum dapat meningkatkan konsumsi pakan dan bobot badan ayam pedaging.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the perception of cattle farmers towards dung utilization as biogas in Sekarmojo village, Purwosari, Pasuruan. The study used qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The data were collected from cattle farmers in Mojo hamlet, Sekar Mojo village, Pasuruan regency through interview, documentation and observation. The result showed that farmers in Sukorejo village did not utilize cow dung as biogas due to lack of knowledge about biogas. Instead of it, they prefered use it directly as fertilizer in their fields. Moreover, there were many negative perceptions such as village myth, expensive cost for biogas installation, worried of failure to sustain the biogas and traumatic of gas explosion.Keywords : biogas, dung, village, farmer, cattle

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Antibody against progesgerone was produced from serum of local rabbit following low dose of progesterone injection: While a control group (Control; n=5) was injected with Freund's adjuvant solution in aquadest, the treatment groups were either firstly injected with progesterone conjugated to Freund's Adjuvant (P--CFA, 150 p.l : 150 pl) or progesterone conjugated to Freund's Adjuvant and bovine serum albumin (P-CFA-BSA; 135 p;l : 150 tt1 : 15 gl). Twice boostering injections were adminstered using incomplete Freund's Adjuvant on day 14 and 52 after first immunization. Weekly bleeding for serum collection were done from 1 week following first booster immunization to week 10, Using ELISA technique it was shown that the antibody titer to progesterone after first and second booster immunization in the P-CFA groug was higher than Control- and P-CFA-BSA groups. The antibody titer in the P-CFA-BSA remained low similar in the Control group:Key words: antibody; progesterone; rabbit

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of addition of onion skin flour (OSF) and garlic skin flour (GSF) on feed digestibility of crude protein, body weight gain and carcass percentage of Mojosari ducks. The research used 168 Mojosari duck males aged 4 weeks and had an average weight of 335.5 ± 72 g/duck (CV = 7.8%). The study used completely randomized design with7 treatments and 4 replications (T0 = basal feed (BF); T1 = BF + 3% OSF; T2 = BF+ 6% OSF; T3 = BF+ 3% GSF; T4 = BF+ 6% GSF; T5 = BF + 1.5% OSF + 1.5% GSF; and T6 = BF+ 3% OSF + 3% GSF).The results showed that the protein digestibility was found higher (P <0.05) in T6 (80.08%) than T0 (74.76%), T1 (73.71%), and T2 (75.54%). Meanwhile, protein digestibility of T4 (79.26%) were higher (P <0.05) than T1 (73.71%). Another findings showed that body weight gain of T0 (15,88 g) were lower (P <0.05) than T1 (18.48 g); T2 (18.42 g); T3 (17.96 g); T4 (19.77 g); and T6 (19.05 g). The addition of OSF and GSF could not influence (P>0.05) the duck carcass percentage. The study concluded that the addition of 6% GSF and combination of 3% OSF + 3% GSF could improve crude protein digestibility and weight gain, but was not able to increase the percentage of duck carcasses. Keywords: duck, digestible protein, body weight, carcas

Abstract

This study aims at analyzing economic calculations of broiler farm activities which applied two different housing systems (closed and opened house system) at Malang Regency. Data were collected from two selected broiler farmers from April 15th to May 11st, 2013. Then the data were analyzed using economic and descriptive method. The results show that farmers who applied closed housing system were able to earn more profit (Rp2.214,-/bird/period) than those who applied opened housing system (Rp1.875,-/bird/period). However, farmers with closed housing system paid higher pro-duction costs than those with the opened housing system. Another findings show that both (closed and opened house) systems were economically viable for broiler production since they provide a good R/C ratio. This study suggests broiler farmers who tend to apply closed housing systems should modify the equipments which require higher costs.Keywords: Broiler farming, R/C ratio and BEP
