Abstract

The central nervous system stimulant activity of the ethanol extract of young areca nut (Areca catechu L.) has been studied on mice. The observation was done by assessing the indurance, motor activity, curiousity, sleeping induced time and sleeping time in many variable of doses. Results showed that the ethanolic extract of 500 mg/ Kg bodyweight dose showed significant effect (P<0,05).

Abstract

Metformin, adalah suatu obat yang direkomendasikan sebagai obat pilihan utama dan digunakan luas untuk pengobatan diabetes mellitus tipe 2. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mempelajari penggunaan metformin pada pasien rawat inap di SMF Ilmu Penyakit Dalam RSUD Dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi, khususnya pada penggunaan yg dikategorikan kontraindikasi.Penelitian ini merupakan suatu studi prospektif  follow up pasien dengan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Data diambil dari bulan April sampai Juni 2010 di  SMF Ilmu Penyakit Dalam RSUD Dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi, dengan dasar perubahan kondisi pasien selama dirawat.Hasil penelitian, didapatkan 28 pasien yang memenuhi kriteria dalam penelitian ini, dengan 11 pasien teridentifikasi menggunakan metformin pada keadaan kontraindikasi. Ditemukan penggunaannya pada 3 pasien dengan gagal jantung kongesti dan gagal ginjal, 3 pasien dengan gagal jantung, 2 pasien dengan gagal ginjal, 2 pasien dengan sirosis hepatik, dan 1 pasien dengan dehidrasi akut disertai hipoperfusi. Terdapat 2 dari 11 pasien tersebut meninggal dalam masa pengamatan, namun masih belum bisa dipastikan bahwa penyebab kematian tersebut adalah karena penggunaan metformin. Farmasis harus selalu memperhatikan perubahan kondisi pasien untuk meyakinkan bahwa penggunaan obat masih aman bagi seorang pasien.

Abstract

Hepatic fibrosis is an inflammation of  liver which involves series of cells and mediators. Hepatic fibrosis can lead to cirrhosis. Hepatic fibrosis increase the risk of clinical complication such as portal hypertension and hepatocyte disfunction. This study aimed at finding amarker for non invasive hepatic fibrosis or an antifibrotic by comparison of the degree of hepatic fibrosis  after administration of CCl4 and losartan. Thirty five rat’s were divided into 7 groups which were K-1, K-2, K-3, K-4, K-5, K-6, K-7 respectively. K-1 was olive oil control group, K-2, K-3 and K-4 were given CCl4 0,2 ml/100g interperitonially third a week, K-5, K-6 and K-7 were given CCl4 and losartan 5 mg/Kg BB per oral per day. CCl4 and losartan were given for 6 weeks and the change in rat’s hepatic histopathology was observed at week 1st, 4th, and 6th. Histopatology of rat’s liver changed from centrotubular necrosis to centrotubular degeneration but did not show hepatic fibrosis.

Abstract

Our study aimed at evaluating sociodemographic value between diabetes mellitus and hypertension as the main cause of end-stage renal failure. Retrospective cross-sectional study was used as the research method. Two hundred end-stage renal failure patient records at 2010 were used to evaluate this study. Statistical analysis was done using statistical package of social sciences (SPSS 17®). Ethical clearance was issued by respective clinical research committee. Sociodemographic factors included gender, age, race, education and lifestyle. Results showed that from 200 end-stage renal failure patients there were 1% secondary to diabetes mellitus, 26.5% secondary to hypertension and 44% secondary to diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Case of end-stage renal failure in male secondary to diabetes mellitus (39%) was higher than hypertension (23.5%). End-stage renal failure secondary to diabetes mellitus was higher than hypertension (14%) in female. 33.5% patients were smokers, 22% were end-stage renal failure secondary to diabetes mellitus and the rest were secondary to hypertension. Statistical analysis showed no significant correlation (sig.>0.05) between lifestyle and end-stage renal failure secondary to diabetes mellitus and hypertension.

Abstract

The determination of totally phenolic compounds in methanol extracted of cortex fruit of Garcinia manggostana Linn has been done by Folin-Ciocalteau method. The  antioxidant activity has been performed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrihydrazil (DPPH) as reagent, that measured spectrometrically  compared with gallic acid as antioxidant standard compound. The total phenolate compounds found in fresh peel of mangosteen was 1,64±0.18% w/w which calculated as gallic acid equivalence and the antioxidant activity with a value of IC50 was 251,12 µg.

Abstract

Effect of green tea brewed addition toward the antioxidant activity of apple juice, have been investigated by measuring free radical 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl catches by sample. Ratio of green tea brewed with apple juice was 4:1(T4A1), 3:1(T3A1), 2:1(T2A1) and 1:1(T1A1). Results showed that antioxidant activity of T4A1 (IC50=0,6214% v/v) are not different evident (p<0,05) than green tea brewed (IC50=0,6091% v/v).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate an antiinflamation effect of S.paniculata and Siabadicencis extracts at the dose of 300 mg/200 g BW by induction of rats paw edema. Edema condition was induced by administration of 0,2 ml aqueous solution of 0,1 % carrageenan. This was followed by the assay of antiinflamatory effect of fractionated S. paniculata extract with hexane, DCM, ethyl acetate and butanol respectively. A decrease in rats paw edema volume was measured after treatments. Results showed that percent inhibition of inflammation after administration of Siabadicencis, S. paniculata extracts and positive control were 35;48 and 63 % respectively, while that of the hexane, DCM, ethyl acetate and butanol fraction was 69, 27, 53, and 43 % respectively. The antiinflamation effect of the hexane fraction was then determined at various doses (10 ; 20 and 30 mg/20 g BW with positive control acetosal 1,3 mg/20 g BW, by induction of rat back edema. The edema was induced by administration of 1 % carrageen in sessame oil at day 0 (0,1 ml) and day 1 st (0,5 ml) respectively. Parameters such as edema volume, haemoglobin and haematocrit were observed. Results indicated that percent inhibition of inflammation diameter after administration of the fraction at doses  10, 20, 30 mg/20 g BW and acetosal 1,3 mg/20 g BW on day 5th was 11 ; 15 ; 17 ; and 20 % respectively. While percent inhibition of inflammation volume of those groups were 19, 38, 62 and 63 % respectively the haemoglobine (Hb) of dose group 10, 20, 30 mg/20 g BW and negative control was 14.808 ; 15.117 and 12.944 g/dL respectively and 45,25 that of control positive 44,2 respectively. The mean value of necrosis hepatocyte at 3 sites of dose group 30 mg/20 g BW, positive and negative control groups was 6,38 ; 13,82 and 3,55 respectively.

Abstract

The qualitative and quantitative analysis of coumarin in cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii Bl.) which are qualified in to AA, KA and KB has been done by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Extraction of quality KB coumarin was carried out by soxchletation in hexane, dichloromethane and methanol. Meanwhile, quality AA and KA coumarins are soxchletated in methanol. The qualitative analysis using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with column BP-5 showed that hexane, dichloromethane and methanol extracts of qualified KB coumarin, as well as methanol extracts of qualified AA and KB only contain coumarin compounds, no other coumarin groups were found. From coumarin quantitative analysis by gas chromatography using BP-624 column and FID detector of methanol extracts obtained 1855.51 ppm (0.186%), 1915.75 ppm (0.192%), 9177.36 ppm (0,918%), for qualified KB, AA, and KA respectively.

Abstract

he Study of cytotoxic effects of the methanolic extract and the fraction of Teak’s leave (Tectona grandis Linn. f.) by using Brine Shrimp Lethality Bioassay Method had been done. Results showed that the methanolic extract have cytotoxic level of (LC50) 16,58 ppm, n-hexane fraction 21,83 ppm, ethyl acetate fraction 21,31 ppm and residue fraction 21,27 ppm, respectively.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan kajian ketepatan penggunaan ISDN (isosorbit dinitrat) pada pasien angina pektoris di suatu rumah sakit pemerintah Kota Padang. Evaluasi ketepatan didasarkan kepada kriteria standar yang telah ditetapkan, meliputi; ketepatan indikasi, ketepatan pasien, ketepatan regimen dosis, serta adanya duplikasi terapi dan interaksi obat. Hasil kajian memperlihatkan bahwa telah terjadi ketidaktepatan frekuensi penggunaan dan duplikasi terapi berturut-turut 17.31% dan 5.77%. Sementara interaksi farmakodinamik dan interaksi farmakokinetik terjadi masing-masingnya sebesar 98.07% dan 75.00%. Ketepatan lama terapi sebesar 76.92% dan 23.08% tidak cukup informasi.
