Abstract

This study explores elementary school teachers’ perceptions, attitudes, and readiness toward implementing environment-based education, a pedagogical approach that integrates environmental awareness and sustainability into classroom practices. It also compares these variables based on teachers’ participation in relevant training or prior experience and examines the relationships between them. A quantitative survey approach was employed involving 161 public elementary school teachers from North Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were gathered using structured self-report questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman’s Rho correlation analysis to identify differences and associations between key factors. The findings reveal that teachers generally hold high to very high levels of perception, positive attitudes, and readiness for environment-based education. Teachers who had participated in training or had prior experience showed significantly higher scores in aspects such as self-efficacy, availability of teaching documents, and willingness to implement environment-based learning. Strong correlations were found among key variables, particularly between teaching resources, institutional policy, and teacher confidence. These results emphasize the importance of professional development and institutional support in fostering effective environmental education practices among teachers. The study offers valuable insights for policymakers, curriculum developers, and school administrators aiming to strengthen environmental education initiatives in primary schools.

Abstract

The learning process of Islamic cultural history in elementary schools is often dominated by conventional methods such as lectures and textbook readings, which can lead to low student engagement, limited understanding, and reduced learning motivation. These challenges indicate the need for alternative instructional media that are more interactive and appealing to students. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using movie media in improving students' cognitive understanding and self-efficacy in learning Islamic culture. This study uses a quantitative approach with a group pretest–posttest experimental design, conducted in three phases: pretest, treatment using movie media, and posttest to assess changes in students’ understanding and self-efficacy. Fifteen fourth- through sixth-graders made up the study's population. Pre- and post-test data show that the kids' learning outcomes have improved dramatically. After receiving therapy, which included of seeing an animated film on the life of Prophet Ayyub AS, the subjects' scores improved from 22 on the pretest to 23. experienced an average increase to 65. Therefore, movie learning media is effective in increasing elementary school students' understanding of Islamic cultural history. Abstract

This study analyzes the learning readiness of elementary school students in implementing differentiated learning, on grade IV-VI students in Cluster 1 Puntadewa, Serengan District, Surakarta City. Differentiated learning involves modifying content, processes, and products according to student's readiness, interests, and learning profiles. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with data obtained through a learning readiness scale. The population in this study consists of students in grades IV–VI from elementary schools in the Puntadewa 1 Cluster, Serengan District, Surakarta City, for the 2023/2024 academic year. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling, which included two schools: SD Negeri Kartodipuran and SD Muhammadiyah 14. The learning readiness scale in this study consisted of 40 statement items covering four aspects of learning readiness: (1) physical readiness, (2) psychological readiness, (3) material readiness, and (4) attitude and knowledge. The results showed that students had varying levels of learning readiness, which were divided into three categories: high, medium, and low. Differentiated learning helps students with high learning readiness achieve better results than those with medium and low learning readiness. The implications of this study support the use of differentiated learning strategies to improve the effectiveness and inclusiveness of learning.

Abstract

Literacy is a critical competency for success in the 21st century, yet it remains a significant challenge for elementary school students in Indonesia, as their literacy skills are generally low. This research aims to identify the factors influencing the literacy skills of elementary school students. The study adopts a correlational survey method, involving a sample of 293 students. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using the SEMPLS technique. The results reveal that reading motivation and interest significantly influence students’ reading literacy skills. However, the support from teachers and schools was found to have a limited impact on enhancing students’ reading motivation. These findings suggest that while teacher and school support are important, fostering students’ reading motivation and interest is a key to improving literacy. The study highlights the need for a more tailored approach in nurturing literacy skills, considering the diverse characteristics of students. This research contributes to understanding the underlaying factors affecting literacy and provides insights into educational strategies to enhance reading skills in elementary schools.

Abstract

The level of tolerance and appreciation for cultural diversity among elementary and university students remains relatively low. This research is considered urgent because of the discrepancy between societal expectations and the realities observed in educational settings, where tolerance as a foundation for fostering inclusive and harmonious attitudes is still minimal. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of multicultural education programs in instilling the values of tolerance and respect for cultural diversity. This study employed a quantitative approach with a purposive sample of 370 students. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and regression techniques with the assistance of SPSS Version 29.0. The results demonstrate that multicultural education programs significantly enhance students’ tolerant attitudes (F = 58.67, p .001), with a contribution of 41%. In addition, social interaction within groups was found to be effective in developing empathy and strengthening cultural understanding among students. These findings highlight that systematic and sustainable multicultural education can play a pivotal role in shaping a generation that values diversity and demonstrates inclusive behaviour. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the importance of integrating multicultural education into the curriculum, not only as a theoretical concept but also as a practical framework for classroom and community engagement. The implications suggest that collaboration between schools, families, and communities is essential to building an inclusive learning environment that nurtures tolerance, empathy, and mutual respect across cultural boundaries.

Abstract

Teachers' reflective ability is a critical factor in improving the quality of learning in elementary schools. Reflection enables teachers to critically evaluate their teaching practices, identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop more effective strategies to address students' needs. This study aims to assess the level of self-reflective ability among elementary school teachers using a survey method and to explore how reflection contributes to enhancing teaching quality. The survey included 316 elementary school teachers from various regions in Indonesia and was conducted online using a teacher self-reflection questionnaire. The results revealed that teachers' reflective abilities were generally categorized as good. While most teachers acknowledge the importance of reflection, challenges remain in implementing deep and structured reflective practices. Key barriers include high workloads, limited time, and insufficient professional support. Furthermore, a lack of understanding of the reflective process and the absence of supportive tools to guide teachers through this process hinder the effective application of reflection.

Abstract

Reading ability is a fundamental skill essential to the learning process. However, a low Effective Reading Speed (ERS), which includes both reading speed and comprehension, poses a significant challenge that can negatively impact student learning outcomes. Slow reading speed and inadequate comprehension hinder students from effectively absorbing information, ultimately affecting their overall academic performance. This study aims to assess the ERS of elementary school students after implementing the Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, Test (PQRST) method in their learning process. It employs a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consists of 20 fifth-grade students selected from a population of 84 at a primary school in Coblong Subdistrict, Bandung City, West Java Province, Indonesia. Data collection involved reading speed and comprehension tests, which were analyzed using the ERS formula. The results indicate that the PQRST method is effective for teaching reading, particularly in improving ERS. Post-test results show a notable improvement compared to pretest scores. This study provides empirical evidence supporting the effectiveness of the PQRST method in elementary education, encouraging teachers to integrate it into their reading instruction. Additionally, it serves as a reference for further research on reading strategies in early education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Islamic Education learning media using animated videos for elementary school students. The objectives are to: (1) identify the development stages of an animated video themed on sincerity for fifth-grade students; (2) evaluate its validity; and (3) assess its practicality in classroom use. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the ADDIE model. The study involved Islamic Education teachers and fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires for expert validators, teachers, and students, as well as documentation. The results indicate that the animated video was developed in accordance with the ADDIE stages. The analysis revealed limited use of instructional media. In the design and development phases, materials were prepared, and the video was produced. It was then validated by experts and tested by users. The media was rated highly valid with a score of 89.15%, and its practicality was rated at 94.5% based on feedback from teachers and students. These findings suggest that the media has strong potential as a practical learning tool. It is recommended that teachers receive training in instructional media development and that animated videos be effectively integrated into the curriculum. Future studies should investigate broader applications and the long-term effects on student learning outcomes.
