Abstract

This study focuses on self-regulated learning (SRL), a process in which individuals actively control their learning process through planning, monitoring, and self-evaluation. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of SRL in the Surakarta Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program. The method used was a survey. The population in this study consisted of students from the Elementary School Teacher Education (ESTE) Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, UNS Surakarta. The sample comprised 105 students. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire encompassing aspects of metacognition, motivation, and behavior. The data analysis technique employed descriptive statistics. The results showed that the level of SRL of Surakarta Elementary School Teacher Education students was in the moderate category. Although students have demonstrated adequate SRL abilities, several aspects still need to be improved, especially in terms of time management and learning strategies. This shows that although students have managed their learning quite well, there is still room for improvement in these aspects. These findings provide valuable insights for curriculum development and teaching strategies in the Surakarta Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program. By understanding weaknesses in time management and learning strategies, curriculum development and teaching methods can be focused on these areas to further support the improvement of students' SRL, thereby improving the effectiveness of their learning and academic outcomes.

Abstract

Several prospective students with special needs registered at THI Integrated Islamic Elementary School; however, not all could be accommodated. This study aims to analyze and describe the planning, organizing, actuating, and supervising of inclusive education at the school. A qualitative descriptive method was employed. The findings are as follows: (1) Planning is based on Islamic values and national policies, involving students with special needs, teachers, and parents; (2) Organization is supported by a structured system consisting of an inclusion coordinator, special education teachers, and an external consultant, with adequate facilities and infrastructure; (3) Actuating is implemented through the Merdeka Curriculum, with modified lesson materials and individualized learning programs—both academic and non-academic—using a pull-out system; (4) Supervision is conducted by the principal, vice principal, and inclusion coordinator, along with the external consultant. However, oversight from government education supervisors is less intensive compared to that in public schools. THI Integrated Islamic Elementary School demonstrates effective inclusive education practices. Nevertheless, ongoing support from educational authorities is needed to ensure program sustainability and continuous improvement. This study offers a comprehensive case study of inclusive education within a private Islamic school, providing valuable insights for educators and policymakers interested in implementing similar initiatives.

Abstract

The increasing involvement of youth in criminal activities is often linked to a lack of character development, highlighting the need for an effective educational approach. This study aims to develop a Character Education Model (CEM) along with a guidebook to enhance noble values such as honesty, responsibility, empathy, and respect among elementary school students. National character building is crucial, but youth criminal behavior is also related to insufficient parental attention. Therefore, schools must provide a child-friendly environment that offers a fun and challenging learning atmosphere to foster these core values. The development of this model is based on character education theories and frameworks emphasizing holistic moral development. The implementation of the IC learning plays a significant role by promoting student-centered learning and supporting both academic and social growth. This research employed a Research and Development (RD) design, including stages of planning, product development, field testing, revision, and final implementation. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires involving 12 teachers and parents, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The validity of the CEM was confirmed by feedback from experts and practitioners. The results not only met the research objectives but also provided a theoretical foundation for character education models in elementary schools. This aligns with the goals of the Independent Curriculum to create a more personalized, flexible, and holistic approach to education. This study contributes a practical model for improving student character development in elementary education.

Abstract

The science process skills of elementary school students in Langsa city are still relatively low, despite these skills being a crucial element in science education based on the Merdeka curriculum. Additionally, teachers have reported several challenges, including the presence of abstract science material, textbooks that use two-dimensional visualizations, and the inability to practice all science concepts. This research developed the SIAR book (Interactive Science with Augmented Reality) to enhance science process skills. The study produced an elementary school science book that includes observational activities and integrates augmented reality (AR) to present more concrete three-dimensional visualizations. The objectives of this study were to create a valid and effective SIAR book product for improving science process skills. This research employed the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) for development. Participants included three expert validators and 100 elementary school students. The results indicated that: (1) the SIAR book is highly valid for improving science process skills, with a validity score of 96.11%; (2) the SIAR book is effective in enhancing science process skills, achieving a gain score of 0.76, which falls within the high criteria. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that a book integrated with AR can assist students in improving their science process skills. As science process skills improve, students' understanding of science also increases. Therefore, science education in schools should leverage digital technology, as it meets students' needs and facilitates the learning process in science.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of local wisdom-based animated video media on enhancing the reading and writing skills of first-grade students. The challenge of improving literacy skills among young learners, particularly where traditional methods may not fully engage them. Utilizing a pre-test and post-test framework, the research involved 67 students from four elementary schools. The study employs a pre-test and post-test research design, utilizing a quantitative approach to measure changes in student performance. The findings revealed a significant improvement in literacy scores, with the mean score increasing from 11.373 before exposure to the videos to 16.179 afterward. This 4.806 means difference, supported by a t-value of 19.956 and a p-value of 0.000, underscores the effectiveness of culturally relevant materials in engaging students and improving their literacy skills. The reduction in score variability after the intervention indicates a more uniform enhancement in literacy across the student population.  This study advocates integrating local wisdom into educational resources, as it fosters deeper engagement, motivation, and a sense of identity among learners. The contribution of this research lies in demonstrating that culturally responsive teaching strategies can bridge the gap between home and school literacy experiences, ultimately contributing to improved academic outcomes and lifelong learning.

Abstract

The loss of self-confidence and responsibility in students can be caused by various factors, both internal and external, such as negative experiences, lack of positive support from people around them, and social comparisons between friends. One way that can be used to implement effective learning strategies is to ensure that teachers involve students actively, creatively, and enjoyably so that they feel more motivated to learn. One of the obstacles faced by teachers when implementing physical education is that students do not feel responsible for what they learn towards the learning objectives that are achieved and the use of appropriate learning models. Therefore, to support students' self-confidence and responsibility, the peer teaching learning model can be used in physical education and sports in schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of student development towards self-confidence and responsibility by using the peer teaching model. This study uses a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design with the technique purposive sampling in Class VI SDN 1 Cisurupan Garut. Data were obtained using a questionnaire instrument of student self-confidence and responsibility. Research in this area can provide insight into how schools, teachers, and families can build good character in students, as well as identify factors that influence both characters. Self-confidence and responsibility are two main characters that shape a student's behavior, achievement, and social skills.

Abstract

The problem raised in this study is the low ability of elementary school children to express emotions and build self-confidence verbally. This study aims to explore the role of poetry writing activities as a medium of expression to support the process of emotion regulation and self-strengthening among students. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved six fifth-grade students of a public elementary school. Poetry writing activities were conducted regularly over six sessions across two months. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, documentation of students’ poetry works, and teacher reflection notes as the main research instruments. The findings show that repeated poetry writing activities created a safe and flexible symbolic space for children to express feelings that were previously difficult to convey verbally. Through sustained engagement, students reported feeling relieved, happy, and motivated to continue writing outside of class. Positive changes were observed in emotional openness, self-reflection, and active classroom participation. These developments emerged gradually, indicating that the emotional and self-strengthening benefits of poetry writing require consistent practice rather than a single intervention. In conclusion, regularly implemented poetry writing serves as an effective reflective and expressive learning approach, playing an important role in fostering emotion regulation and providing an early foundation for the self-strengthening of elementary school children.
