Abstract

Apple cucumber is an annual plant that belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family and is very closely related to the melon plant. Regarding morphology and fruit aroma, this plant is a hybrid plant or a cross between melon and suri cucumber. Apple cucumber farmers in Tanjungpakis Village cultivate an average of ½Ha land for apple cucumber cultivation. The taste of the apple cucumber produced by the fruit is sweet, and the flesh is soft, making this fruit much liked by the public. This makes apple cucumber a superior local fruit that is cultivated in Tanjung Pakis Village. The aim of implementing community service is to make apple cucumbers a strategic superior commodity to be processed into beverage products, optimize the potential of local and regional products, and help improve the economy and welfare of farmers in rural areas. The implementation method is carried out through outreach and licensing, training and practice, and assistance to farmers. The results obtained from the service implementation are syrup product innovations that have been packaged and equipped with attractive product labels.

Abstract

Abrasion at Alam Serdang Bahari Beach (ASB) is increasingly worrying, causing the reduction of mangrove forests on the coast. ASB Beach is located in Regemuk Village, Labu Beach. The ASB Mangrove Forest Farmers Group (KTHM) has made many efforts to continue to exist morally and materially to survive in the ecotourism industry and is trying to re-green the beaches to minimize the impact of abrasion. The results of a field assessment involving lecturers, village officials, and KTHM ASB obtained a roadmap for a sustainable development village with a solution to prevent prolonged abrasion using the simplest and most economical way through engineered bund techniques to protect mangrove plants and also act as a wave breaker. Implementing this PKM aims to make new efforts to plant mangrove trees as coastal abrasion protection. Implementing activities uses a participatory action research (PAR) approach. KTHM, as the partner, carried out the construction of the bund enclosure, and the PKM team was the drafter and supervisor. The results of the PKM implementation are three plots of bunds in the shape of a ship's bow as an effort to break the beach waves using the Rhizopora sp. propagules collected from mangrove seeds by KTHM ASB. This innovation is still early to assess because it requires ongoing monitoring. It is hoped that this effort will better protect newly planted mangrove plants from fierce waves and abrasion as a joint effort to prevent abrasion on ASB Beach.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to enhance the nutritional quality of processed food products by diversifying those made from sorghum. In Gorontalo, sorghum cultivation and processing into ready-to-eat food products were well-established. Active community participation in developing sorghum commodities was vital, prompting initiatives to process sorghum into widely recognized products. During training sessions, it was emphasized that all team members, from workers to management, needed to be knowledgeable and skilled in implementing Standard Sanitation Operational Procedures (SSOP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to improve cleanliness and sanitation. The participants, primarily mothers from West Tulabolo Village, produced local food items from sorghum seeds, such as sorghum drinks, sorba, onde-onde, and fried bananas. While sorghum seeds were the main ingredient for sorghum drinks and sorba, sorghum flour was used for onde-onde and fried bananas. The program concluded with an evaluation of participants' acceptance of the products, showing high ratings of very much liked for nearly all aspects, including taste, texture, aroma, and color. This training was intended to guide the community in exploring entrepreneurial opportunities and fostering the development of village-based small and medium enterprises (UKM Desa).

Abstract

Sumedang still struggles with a stunting problem; based on the 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the percentage of stunted children in Sumedang is the highest among all cities in West Java. Health Cadres have a very potential role in stunting prevention from an early age, providing education about the importance and selection of healthy and balanced nutrition food during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the utilization of alternative food ingredients to improve the quality of nutrition in family food when conducting activities carried out at the Posyandu. This activity aims to enhance health cadres' knowledge through nutrition and stunting education and encourage the utilization of eggshell flour in creating family food innovations to prevent stunting from an early age. This activity uses pre-test and post-test questionnaires for measuring cadres’ knowledge about balanced nutrition and stunting prevention and a food creation competition based on eggshell flour, which is evaluated based on five criteria: creativity, nutritional facts, taste, texture, and presentation/serving. This activity effectively enhanced the knowledge regarding balanced nutrition and stunting prevention, as indicated by a significant increase in the average score before and after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.005. Furthermore, the food creation competition demonstrated the substantial potential of eggshell flour in preparing a diverse range of nutritious family food, including both savory and sweet dishes/snacks. This activity improved health cadres' knowledge and expanded the variety of healthy food through the innovative utilization of eggshell flour.

Abstract

Revegetation based on the ornamental landscape is one of the efforts to reduce the surface of urban heat islands (SUHI), the intensity of which is always influenced by land surface temperature (LST). The focus of the PBM scheme community service program in the scope of PKM is disaster mitigation due to climate change, significantly reducing the risk of disasters due to LST. The program aims to reduce SUHI through vegetation modification using edible and ornamental plants as elements forming the landscape with a public education approach and revegetation actions. The results of PBM-PKM in public education activities show the high enthusiasm of the community in participating in activities and show that the level of partner understanding of the concept of revegetation has reached 100%. As a result of revegetation activities, as many as 342 edible plants and ornamental plant seeds invested in the community were successfully planted in the Asy-Syifaa Mosque, Kendari City landscape. The achievement of increasing the level of community empowerment shows a significant increase in understanding regarding the importance of creating vegetation in the yard landscape to reduce the risk of disasters due to rising LST through vegetation, which has been understood 100% by target partners. The results of monitoring and evaluating the growth of edible plants and ornamental plants as landscape-forming elements were able to grow well in the Asy-Syifaa Mosque area.

Abstract

Service activities were conducted in the Bugel Peni II and III Joint Business Group (KUB) in Bugel Village, Kulonprogo Regency. Fishermen who join this group often do not get maximum catches because they face various obstacles, such as limited technology and unpredictable weather conditions. This community service aims to provide portable FAD innovations and determine the success of using portable FADs in fishermen's catches. Portable FADs are proposed for this service activity to provide a solution to minimize losses due to these obstacles. Portable FADs are an innovation that stimulates fish behavioral responses using sound waves with a specific frequency on an attractor, developing from the concept of conventional FADs. The implementation method begins with outreach to fishermen in the Bugel Peni II and III Joint Business Group (KUB) regarding the concept and benefits of portable FADs. Practical training was carried out on the installation and use of these tools and education regarding their positive impact on fish catches. In addition, data collection was carried out through direct observations in the field to understand fish responses to portable FADs. The positive impact of this service activity is that the application of portable FADs provides in-depth insight into the urgency of using technology to increase fish catches by fishermen. Apart from that, this service activity also provides important insight regarding the natural factors fishermen face in implementing portable FADs, such as weather uncertainty, increasingly scarce fish resources, and natural conditions, namely high waves, which are the main obstacles in achieving the expected results.

Abstract

The rice productivity in Gondel Village, Kedungtuban District, Blora Regency, Central Java, has declined. Factors such as attacks by plant pests and diseases (OPT), climate change (DPI) impact, and decreasing soil quality are the leading causes of crop failure. This training aims to enhance the understanding and skills of Gondel Village farmers in making biofertilizers and introducing environmentally friendly pest and disease control methods. The activity involved 40 farmers from 8 farmer groups (Gemah Ripah, Margo Mulyo, Ngudi Makmur, Sido Dadi, Sido Makmur, Tambah Makmur, Tambah Rizki, and Sri Mulyo), with each group represented by five farmers. The training methods included analysis of soil chemicals, socialization, practical propagation of Trichoderma sp. on rice media, and biofertilizer production. Pre-test and post-tests were conducted to assess the improvement in farmers' knowledge. Trichoderma biofertilizer was formulated using carriers such as a) Manure and b) Compost, zeolite, and humic acid. The results of the soil chemical properties analysis showed that farmers' use of chemical fertilizers was very intensive, resulting in very high levels of phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca) and high levels of potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), and cation exchange capacity (KTK). Evaluation results indicated that the training significantly improved the farmers' knowledge of biofertilizer production in theory and practice. However, some farmers still need further guidance on the propagation of the biological agent Trichoderma sp.
