Abstract

Cibunian Village, Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency, has great potential as an ecotourism destination. One of the unique tourist destinations currently being developed is the Bogor Waqf Forest. However, this village is highly prone to landslides, requiring collaboration from various parties to address the issue. One of the potential collaborations is with the youth, through the Cibunian Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna). This community service program aims to improve the knowledge and skills of the Cibunian Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) administrators regarding zakat waqf literacy, waqf-based forests, Waqf Forest applications, and carbon accounting. The entire series of activities was held in September 2024, in the form of four training sessions. The first two sessions are lectures by resource persons on zakat waqf literacy and waqf-based forests, and the final two sessions are practical carbon accounting for trees in the Bogor Waqf Forest and the use of the Waqf Forest application. The data collection method was through questionnaires before and after training, analyzed descriptively, as well as an assessment of direct practical activities during the training session. Based on observations, it can be concluded that the Cibunian Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) has improved their understanding of the basic concepts of zakat and waqf, as well as their ability to conduct surveys, operate the Waqf Forest application, perform carbon calculations, and manage waqf-based forests. This can enhance the sense of ownership and role of local communities in protecting the environment, preventing disasters, and optimizing village potential through waqf-based forests.

Abstract

Livestock health status in the traditional farming system of Ngudi Rahayu Farmer Group, Ngentakrejo Village, Lendah Subdistrict, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta continues to face challenges due to fascioliasis. This community service program aimed to identify the fascioliasis case, determine its infestation prevalence, evaluate the hematological profile of cattle, and provide education program to farmers as well as implementing control program. Field surveillance was conducted by analyzing 40 fecal samples using native smear and sedimentation methods, along with blood examination using a hematology analyzer in cattle aged 3‒15 years. The results showed that 15 of 40 samples (37.5%) were positive for Fasciola spp. eggs, consisting of 7 positive samples by the native method, 5 by sedimentation method, and 3 by both methods. Hematological assay revealed a mean leukocyte count of 14.14 × 10⁹/L, slightly above the normal range, with granulocytes at 72.59%, hemoglobin at 90.38 g/L, and hematocrit at 33.19%, indicating an inflammatory response and a tendency toward mild anemia. These results suggest the presence of subclinical parasite infestation, which may contribute to reduced body weight and carcass quality, ultimately affecting farmers’ productivity and income. Treatment was administered following farmer education program and consent, consisting of oral anthelmintic suspension for therapeutic and preventive purposes, combined with intramuscular multivitamin injection to support recovery. This integrated approach underscores the importance of early detection, targeted treatment, and farmer awareness in controlling fascioliasis and sustaining livestock health.

Abstract

Prosperity can be achieved through poverty alleviation. One of the measuring tools for measuring the impact of poverty alleviation programs is the CIBEST Model. While the CIBEST model has been primarily used in the fields of zakat and waqf, this model still needs to be disseminated to other segments for a broader impact, including Islamic boarding schools. The community service program conducted at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Hakim aimed to enhance understanding of the application of the CIBEST model in pesantren. The methods used in this service were dissemination in the form of material presentations and assessments in the form of post-test. Program evaluation results showed that participants had a good level of understanding, with the highest score reaching 90. Participants gave positive feedback and suggested expanding the theoretical scope and increasing the program's socialization. The obstacle faced in the socialization was the limited time so that participants could study the material thoroughly. The signing of a Letter of Intent between IPB University and Pondok Pesantren Nurul Hakim was conducted as a strategic commitment to program sustainability. This step aims to ensure that the program can continue sustainably and provide long-term benefits. With continuous collaboration and ongoing development of program materials, it is hoped that this activity can have a broader impact on the community. Recommendations from this program include increasing socialization, developing program materials, and involving more parties to strengthen understanding of the CIBEST Model. It is hoped that this program can make a significant contribution to improving community welfare and empowering the pesantren community to implement it sustainably.

Abstract

Danda Jaya Village is one of the primary oyster mushroom producing areas in Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan Province, but until now, the baglog waste from these cultivation activities has not been optimally managed, potentially leading to environmental pollution. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of oyster mushroom cultivators in processing baglog waste into organic fertilizer. The implementation method involved preparation, execution—consisting of lectures and practical fertilizer-making sessions—and evaluation using questionnaires. The activity was attended by 24 participants who are members of the oyster mushroom cultivation group. The practical sessions utilized oyster mushroom baglog waste (50 kg) as the primary material, mixed with cow manure, bran, agricultural lime, EM4, and molasses. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participant knowledge; while technical procedural knowledge ranged from 0‒18.75% before the activity, it surged to 80‒100% after the training. Currently, 100% of the participants understand that baglog waste can be processed into compost, which is expected to be independently applied to their respective agricultural lands in Danda Jaya Village to support environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Unpowered Automatic Fertigator (FONi) is an automatic irrigation technology without the use of electrical power that has been proven to be able to provide water as well as dissolved nutrients directly to the root area according to plant needs (evapotranspiration). In this activity, FONi was introduced to the Saung Kiray Farmer Group (Mitra) of Tasikmalaya City for the cultivation of organic fruit and leaf vegetables in a neglected yard. The problem faced by Partners is the difficulty in watering plants which has been done manually and limited access to appropriate technology. This service aims to turn the abandoned yard into a productive one. By applying FONi, the yard can now produce various types of organic fruit and leaf vegetables that are beneficial for health and become a pilot and learning location, especially for the surrounding community. The students involved now have skills and experience in designing and making FONi and together with Partners have mastered its installation and use. Also produced, means of disseminating information on this service activity in the form of posters, videos and news and articles that can be a reference for the wider community. To ensure its sustainability, it is necessary to synergise with the Ministry of Agriculture's Sustainable Food Yard (P2L) programme and the local Agriculture Office, especially to support the National Free Nutritious Meal.

Abstract

The agribusiness sector and livestock are among the key contributors to waste production, which is often dumped indiscriminately, resulting in environmental pollution. Organic wastes, such as livestock manure, are also considered to have a great potential for producing energy, including biogas, which is considered a renewable source of energy. Cibitung Wetan Village, Pamijahan District, is a village that has a high potential for agricultural and livestock development, which is very suitable for biogas production and utilization. A community engagement program was conducted by a team of members from the Department of Physics and the Department of Communication and Community Development Sciences, IPB University, to target the community of Cibitung Wetan Village, Pamijahan District, particularly sheep farmers. The main goal of this program is to promote agricultural and livestock development sustainably to increase production, reducing greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere. The implementation of this community engagement program was conducted through four stages, including socialization, education and training on digester construction, application of digester technology, and mentoring and evaluation. In this program, a team of members from IPB University worked together with Taruna Tani Transfarmers Farmer Group, Cibitung Wetan Village, on the construction of the digester. The training activities also revealed an increase of 49% in the knowledge and attitude of the participants, as evaluated through pre-test and post-test methods. Intensive mentoring also improved the partners’ skills in the technical areas of installation, monitoring, and maintenance of the digester system. This program shows that the use of livestock and agricultural wastes through the application of the digester system can be an alternative route to self-sufficiency in energy production, can create more added value to the wastes, and can contribute to the development of community-based sustainable agriculture and livestock production systems.

Abstract

Karang Tengah Village, Babakan Madang Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, has the potential for nature-based tourism that is developed through community participation. However, the management of village tourism is not yet supported by integrated governance and strong institutions, so coordination between tourism stakeholders is still informal. This community service activity aims to assist village officials and the Sentul Local Guide Association in designing a more integrated and sustainable tourism village development plan. The approach used in this community service activity is participatory, involving stakeholder mapping, identification and prioritisation of issues, formulation of programme guidelines, and institutional strengthening. The results of the discussion showed that institutional issues were the main problem in village tourism development. Based on an analysis of the root causes, program guidelines were formulated, including strengthening the role of BUMDes, increasing the capacity of tourism managers, and developing a more coordinated village tourism system. The outputs of the activity were a stakeholder role-sharing matrix, a village tourism development work plan, and an integrated coordination model that placed local associations as the operational hub of tourism management. This activity increased the collective awareness and commitment of tourism actors in building more collaborative governance. This assistance was the first step in strengthening the institutional foundation as a prerequisite for the sustainability of community-based tourism villages.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen a farmer group's capacity to manage communal pasture and to utilize preserved rice straw as an alternative feed to improve cattle production and reproductive performance. The scope of activities included participatory assistance in pasture rehabilitation and hands-on training on the preparation and application of preserved rice straw. A participatory approach was applied through training sessions, field practice, and continuous mentoring involving all group members. The program activities comprised pasture rehabilitation through land preparation, weed control, and the replanting of forage grasses and leguminous species, as well as the adoption of preserved rice straw in daily feeding practices. The program's impacts were evaluated collaboratively through observations and records on participants’ satisfaction and program mastery, pasture conditions, and cattle performance before and after implementation. The results showed improved pasture management, reflected by reduced weed dominance and increased forage availability, as well as better feed continuity during the dry season. The application of preserved rice straw improved body condition, weight gain, and reproductive indicators in cattle. In conclusion, the community service effectively enhanced the farmer group's capacity for pasture rehabilitation, combined with preserved rice straw feeding, resulting in better cattle growth and reproductive performance.
