Abstract

Introduction: Continuous verbal abuse from parents towards children can cause emotional disorders and hinder children development, both physical and psychological development.  Objective: This study aims to explain the relationship between verbal abuse by parent with the emotional development and level of anxiety among adolescents. Methods: The research sampling technique used a simple random sampling, and 282 respondents were obtained as research sample. The independent variable in this study was verbal abuse by parents on adolescents’ perspective, while the dependent variable were emotional development and anxiety level among adolescents. The instruments used the verbal abuse questionnaire, Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-42 questionnaire (DASS-42). The data was analyzed by using the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance value of p 0.05. Results: The result showed that there is a relationship between verbal abuse by parent with emotional development (p = .001) and anxiety levels (p = .001) among adolescents. Conclusions: This study reveals a significant link between parental verbal abuse and maladaptive emotional development and increased anxiety in adolescents. The findings highlight the need for early interventions and educational programs promoting positive parenting to prevent verbal abuse and support healthy emotional growth. Positive parenting and healthy parent-child interactions can help ensure that children develop normal emotional regulation and anxiety levels.

Abstract

Introduction: Breast milk is the main source of nutrition in infants 0-6 months. The behavior of the mother in exclusively breastfeeding is influenced by the intentions possessed by the mother, especially in babies in perinatology. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the mother's intention in exclusive breastfeeding of infants treated in perinatology. Methods: The method used is cross-sectional with a non-probability sampling technique with total sampling within 1 month of as many as 54 responders. Data analysis using Chi-Square Test and multiple logistic regression. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between maternalknowledge (p = 0.000) and husband support (p = 0.001). Meanwhile, family support (p = 0.114) and nurse support (p = 0.924) were not related to the mother's intention to provideexclusive breastfeeding. The results of multiple logistic regression tests found that the dominant factor that influenced the mother's intention to exclusively breastfeed was husband support (OR=9,754). Conclusion: Husband support is the most dominant factor in influencing the mother's intention to exclusively breastfeed the baby treated in perinatology. Husband support consists of instrumental, informational, judgmental, and emotional support. In this study, the husband was able to provide emotional and instrumental support, for other support still needs to be improved. It is recommended that efforts be made to increase the role of husbands in motivating mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding, health workers are required to provide health education about the importance of husband's support in providing exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Introduction: The aging population presents significant global challenges, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. In West Java Province, Tasikmalaya Regency has the highest number of single female elderly, a group more vulnerable to physical and social isolation, which affects their health status. Objective: This study aims to assess the health level of single female elderly in Tasikmalaya Regency using the Activity of Daily Living (ADL) instrument, and analyze the impact of socio-economic, spatial, and infrastructural factors on their health. Method: A mixed-method approach was applied, combining quantitative surveys using the Older Americans Resources and Services (OARS) ADL instrument with qualitative interviews. A total of 383 respondents were selected through cluster sampling across 39 subdistricts. Spatial analysis using GIS was employed to map health disparities by topography. Result: The findings show that most respondents fall within the “Good” and “Mildly Impaired” health categories, based on ADL scores. Elderly women in lowland areas have better ADL scores compared to those in hilly or mountainous regions due to better accessibility to healthcare facilities. The data also reveal that single elderly women are highly dependent in instrumental ADL activities such as medication management and financial handling, while they show higher independence in basic physical ADL tasks like eating, bathing, and dressing. Conclusion: The ADL instrument proves effective in evaluating the health status of elderly individuals and reflects their level of independence. Geographic and infrastructural factors play a critical role in shaping health outcomes, particularly in rural and topographically challenging areas. These results highlight the urgent need for inclusive health policies and long-term care strategies to address accessibility gaps for single elderly women in Indonesia.

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia's vulnerability to disasters highlights the urgent need for efficient disaster response. While nurses play a pivotal role, there exists a notable gap in their preparedness and the influence of resilience on their readiness. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between resilience and disaster preparedness among nurses, exploring how various resilience dimensions impact their readiness for disaster. Methods: Between April and June 2023, 260 nurses from two naval hospitals in Jakarta were surveyed in a cross-sectional study. Participants were selected based on quota sampling and required a permanent registered nurse and minimum nursing diploma. The study utilized the Disaster Adaptation Resilience Scale (DARS) and the Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool (DPET) for data collection, analyzed using SPSS v26.0. Variables were categorized as low, medium, or high, with the Chi-Square and Fisher exact test evaluating variable relationships. Results: Of the 260 surveyed nurses, most were female diploma holders over 40 years of age, with over 11 years of experience. The average resilience score was 336.16 (SD=26.575). Resilience sub-components: Physical resources at 41.57 (SD=4.091) and social resources at 37.37 (SD=3.671). Disaster preparedness averaged 218.18 (SD=24.238). The total Resilience was significantly correlated with Disaster Preparedness (p=0.000, OR=0.323). Each resilience dimension was consistently aligned with the heightened disaster preparedness levels. Conclusion: The correlation between resilience and readiness emphasizes the need for holistic nursing training and revised policies to bolster crisis responses.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the leading causes of premature death worldwide. Hypertension is defined as a persistent increase in blood pressure, where systolic pressure exceeds 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure exceeds 90 mmHg. One of the therapies that can be used to lower blood pressure is Tera gymnastics, which is specifically designed for the elderly and individuals with hypertension. This therapy involves regular, structured, and planned movements that are slower and more harmonious compared to other types of gymnastics, reducing the risk of injury and promoting overall fitness in the elderly. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Tera gymnastics on reducing blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, involving 17 respondents from the Babakan Sari Community Health Center, RW 09. Instruments used in this study included a digital sphygmomanometer, a stethoscope, and observation sheets. Results: The results of the t-test analysis showed a significant effect of Tera gymnastics on blood pressure reduction, with a p-value of 0.000 ( 0.05) for both systolic and diastolic pressures. The average blood pressure before the intervention was 140/179 mmHg, while the average blood pressure after the intervention was 132/157 mmHg. The movements in Tera gymnastics improve blood circulation, making it a suitable alternative therapy for individuals with hypertension. Conclusion: Tera gymnastics has a significant influence on reducing blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension at UPT Babakan Sari RW 09, Bandung City. It is suggested that community health cadres continue implementing Tera gymnastics as an alternative treatment for hypertension. Additionally, it is recommended to perform Tera gymnastics three times a week to maintain blood pressure stability in elderly individuals with hypertension.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas such as Sumedang, West Java. Maternal health during pregnancy is a critical determinant of fetal growth, yet limited attention has been given to digital health innovations as part of stunting prevention strategies. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between maternal use of smart bracelets during pregnancy and the incidence of stunting in toddlers, while also assessing the influence of maternal education, antenatal care (ANC) attendance, and dietary intake. Methods: A case-control study was conducted in Margamukti Village, Sumedang Regency, involving 100 mother-child pairs (50 cases and 50 controls). Data were collected through structured interviews and cross-referenced with maternal and child health records. Statistical analyses included chi-square tests, odds ratio (OR) calculations, and multivariate logistic regression to identify factors independently associated with stunting. Results: Mothers in the control group (non-stunted children) reported higher use of smart bracelets during pregnancy (56%) compared to the case group (24%). Smart bracelet use was significantly associated with reduced odds of stunting (adjusted OR = 0.28, 95% CI: 0.12–0.64, p = 0.003). Other protective factors included higher maternal education (adjusted OR = 0.46, 95% CI: 0.21–0.98, p = 0.045), attending ≥4 ANC visits (adjusted OR = 0.35, 95% CI: 0.16–0.78, p = 0.009), and adequate dietary intake during pregnancy (adjusted OR = 0.31, 95% CI: 0.14–0.68, p = 0.005). Conclusion: Smart bracelet use during pregnancy is a promising digital health intervention that may contribute to reducing the risk of stunting in toddlers. These findings support the integration of wearable technologies alongside traditional maternal health strategies, particularly in resource-limited settings. Strengthening maternal education, nutrition, and ANC coverage remains essential for comprehensive stunting prevention.
