Abstract

COVID is a disease from a medical point of view, while COVID as a disease associated with causes is a cultural study. The objective of this research is to explore the knowledge, beliefs, norms, habits, values, experiences, and fatalistic attitudes of traders in traditional markets that can influence traders' behavior in COVID-19 prevention in the traditional market of Power, Makassar. Ethnography becomes this method of research, and it observes traders in their surroundings. The results of the research showed that knowledge traders could not recognize the characteristics of people exposed to COVID except for symptoms of cough and fever, and COVID is a common but deadly disease. From the point of view of belief, COVID-19 originates from God and the cause-and-effect relationship between human beings and the environment, as well as human actions. From the point of view of the norm, there are sanctions, both for the discipline and prevention of COVID-19, and traders adhere to the old norms. Experienced aspects of disease prevention in the past are more real, and experiences during pandemics are more abstract. The culture of traders in social life is a diachronic and synchronous combination of the relationship between COVID-19, traditional markets, and public health.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain in-depth information about the motives behind the persecution cases of the LGBTI community in Makassar, as well as how the LGBTI community can survive in a society that rejects it. This research method uses ethnographic methods about why and how identity acceptance, group organizing, violence in relationships with partners, legality of partner status, diversity of identity construction, support system responses, and health behaviors are influenced by ethnographic methods, trying to answer what LGBTI communities and support systems do, to whom they do certain actions, and how people, LGBTI communities, and support systems deal with persecution cases as part of actions that violate the law. The results showed that the community is hampered in the acceptance of identity but makes efforts to organize the group; the source of violence comes from socio-economic crush; legally, there is no recognition of the state and citizens; the construction of diversity is not a serious problem; the response of the support system is a vacuum and is still in search of a formula, and community health behavior has not included safe sex. The conclusion of the research is that the LGBTI community is in a state of anxiety, worry, and fear because of the potential for persecution, physical violence, and verbal violence at any time, while the support system, such as the community empowerment office, social service office, health office, village, community association, neighborhood association, religious leaders, community leaders, and community organizations, have not made real efforts such as dialogue or formal meetings for the security and safety of the lives of LGBTI communities.

Abstract

This article presents discourse texts in Sufism culture, especially about the meaning of dhikr and the spiritual values inherent in Sufi discourse texts. For this reason, researchers are trying to explore the concept of dhikr of the Tarekat Sheikh through a discourse study approach. This is because every living and healthy dhikr has its own special features which lie in its special message in the bias of revelation through culture and life. Researchers try to offer the concept of Sufi dhikr of Sheikh Ahmad Tet, considering that the tradition of dhikr is a reflection of Islamic culture. The aim of this research is to explore the meaning of the word dhikr through expressions in the manuscript of the book 'Secrets of Bainal Haq', as a form of discourse text that supports social-spiritual relationships. To understand this, researchers used Foucault's theory of discourse study, with analytical descriptive methods. The steps that researchers took were data collection, data processing, and interpretation of research data, which results in understanding the words and meaning of Sufi discourse texts. Therefore, the results of this research reveal that Sufi dhikr has similarities in social-spiritual values, a balance between the dimensions of faith and shari’ah, the dimensions of knowledge and worship, the dimensions of culture and morals, and the dimensions of language and culture which is the representation of religious culture traditional practices.

Abstract

The study aimed to explore information about factors and social realities that influence pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) seeking and accessing behavior in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province. This basic research uses a type of ethnographic research, data from the views of the community (emic views), namely health workers, program managers, PrEP service recipients, key groups, related community groups, and communities. Results show that people with high HIV potential are generally unwilling or embarrassed to disclose and often fill out paperwork dishonestly, due to cultural realities. Customs, habits, and practices among potential PrEP clients, known as user culture, make it difficult for interventions to select appropriate and accurate health services, thus affecting future transmission maps. In conclusion, potential users are still secretive, and their sexual activities and places of use of PrEP services do not want to be known by others. The social and cultural reality demonstrated by PrEP users at the Andalas Puskesmas is that some persons tend to avoid the Andalas Puskesmas working area, claiming that they are embarrassed to be seen by residents.

Abstract

This research aims to explain how Indonesia's Diplomatic Relations with Brunei Darussalam developed in the 1984-1998 period. The research method used is a historical method consisting of heuristics, source criticism or verification, interpretation and historiography. In collecting sources, the author uses sources from contemporary newspapers and source books related to the discussion. The results of this research are that Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam have had good relations since the time of the kingdoms in the archipelago. One proof of this good relationship is the kinship between the Brunei Royal family and the Majapahit Kingdom. During the Guided Democracy era, Indonesia and Brunei had cold relations due to differences in political views between President Sukarno and the Sultan of Brunei Sir Omar Ali Saifuddin III regarding the movement for the Unitary State of North Kalimantan led by A.M. Azahari. During President Suharto's time, Indonesia restarted diplomatic relations with Brunei Darussalam which began in 1981 until official diplomatic relations in January 1984. In its development until May 1998, Indonesia's diplomatic relations with Brunei Darussalam went well with a high spirit of friendship. This can be seen through various collaborations in various fields such as politics, economics, education and tourism. The political and economic fields are the most impressive areas in diplomatic relations between the two countries. One of them is that Brunei Darussalam provided an interest-free loan to Indonesia in 1987.

Abstract

This research examines the role of coastal Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in community empowerment efforts in gold mining areas in West Sumbawa, Indonesia. Gold mining areas often face challenges related to environmental impacts, social problems and economic inequality. This research aims to understand how BUMDes on the coast contribute to community empowerment, with a focus on the initiatives and programs they have implemented. The method used in this research is qualitative and quantitative descriptive research. The data sources used are primary and secondary data. Data was obtained by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis procedures use Data Reduction, Data Display and Drawing Conclusions and Verification. The research results show that BUMDes have a significant role in empowering communities in gold mining areas. They act as managers of local natural resources, such as water and agricultural land, which have a direct impact on the welfare of coastal communities. BUMDes also plays a role in managing mining company funds which are given as a form of compensation to local communities. The results of this research show that BUMDes have great potential to play a more strategic role in mitigating the negative impacts of gold mining and improving the quality of life of communities in coastal areas. However, challenges such as licensing, efficient management and supervision need to be overcome to ensure that BUMDes can operate successfully and provide maximum benefits for coastal communities in West Sumbawa. This research can provide useful insights for stakeholders, local governments and BUMDes in efforts to empower communities in gold mining areas.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Everyone Is A Teacher Here learning method on students' critical thinking abilities in the history subject class XI MA Mu'allimat NWDI Pancor. This research uses a quantitative approach with experimental methods. The type of experiment used is quasi-experimental because the researcher cannot control other variables that might have an influence on the research. The experimental design used was a posttest only control group design, namely a design that did not conduct a pretest on research subjects. This was done considering that the learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups were relatively the same. Data collection uses observation to obtain data regarding the implementation of learning using the everyone is teacher here method and students' critical thinking abilities. Data was obtained using an instrument in the form of an observation sheet. Data analysis uses inferential statistical analysis, namely using Mann Whitney nonparametric statistics because the data is not normally distributed. Testing was carried out using SPSS 25.0. The results of hypothesis testing show that the Everyone Is A Teacher Here learning method is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.05, which shows that there is a significant difference between the average results of the experimental class and the control class.
