Abstract

Background: Dengue fever is an infectious disease that is transmitted through mosquito vectors, generally the mosquitoes that carry the dengue hemorrhagic fever virus are the Aedes aegypti and albopictus mosquitoes. The preferred place to live for mosquitoes is an environment with hot and humid weather like Indonesia. Therefore, there is a need for preventive efforts to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes that cause dengue fever. One method that is being developed is the use of biolarvicide from papaya seeds (Carica papaya). Method: Biolarvicide powder is produced from papaya seeds (Carica Papaya L) which are dried for one day until completely dry. Then the powder undergoes an oven process for two hours at a temperature of 38°C. Finally, the powder is crushed again to become a fine powder. Results: After outreach to several respondents from Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency, these respondents answered the post-test correctly, but there were several respondents who answered that draining the bathtub was not necessary. Conclusion: With the presence of biolarvicide powder from papaya seeds, it can help the community in dealing with dengue fever which is carried by this mosquito vector.Keywords: aedes aegypti mosquito, larvicide, papaya seeds.

Abstract

Background: Waste generation in Indonesia reaches 34.584.584,16 tons/year with 17.1% being plastic waste. Environmental management education for elementary school children is the right first step in fostering a sense of love for the environment. These activities which are carried out in a sustainable manner will reduce the phenomenon of plastic waste emergencies in the environment which will lead to an increase in the amount of microplastics in the environment. Method: This edutainment activity packs educational activities in an interesting way by carrying out the concept of learning while playing with a word guessing game. Media posters were also used in this activity. The target of the activity is grade 5 and 6 students of SDN 1 Subo. Evaluation of the success of this activity is by carrying out pre-test and post-test activities. Results: The edutainment activities were enthusiastically attended by students. The results of the evaluation of achievement indicators of success also show that more than 80% of student scores have increased after edutainment activities. In addition, the results of statistical tests using the paired sample t-test also show that there is an effect of edutainment interventions in increasing the knowledge of SDN 1 Subo students on the impacts and dangers of microplastics to nature and the human body, as well as ways to reduce microplastics in the environment. Conclusion: Overall the edutainment activities regarding knowledge about the impacts and dangers of microplastics for nature and the human body, as well as ways to reduce microplastics in the environment ran smoothly and succeeded in achieving the target indicator of more than 80% pre-test and post-test students had increased.Keywords: environmental education, the dangers of microplastics, plastic waste.

Abstract

Background: The reduction of stunting by 14% is one of the national targets which refers to the National Action Plan to Accelerate the Reduction of Stunting (RAN PASTI). The percentage of stunted babies in Bataan Village was 16.36%. This percentage exceeds the stunting reduction target percentage. This service activity aims to help prevent stunting in Bataan Village, Tenggarang District, Bondowoso Regency by increasing mother's knowledge and creativity regarding children's balanced nutritional needs according to their age based on my plate guidelines. Method: Emotional Demonstration (Emo-Demo) to improve eating patterns through the contents of my plate and continued with the cooking class as a form of implementation. Results: There is a difference in the pre-test and post-test results from the effects of emo-demo activities, namely 32% to 84%. In the cooking class activity, the value of mother's creativity is 91.25%. Conclusion: Mother's knowledge about a balanced nutritional diet increased after education was carried out using the emo-demo method and the mother's creativity in serving food according to the guidelines for the contents of my plate also reached the predetermined targets.Keywords: balanced nutrition, fill my plate, stunting, emo demo.

Abstract

Background: The high number of cases of non-communicable diseases in Indonesia is caused by various factors, one of which is the behavior of consuming unhealthy foods such as fast food and a lack of consumption of fruits and vegetables. This is because people's understanding is still lacking related to healthy food. Method: The form of this activity is in the form of direct counselling to the community in the form of lectures about the importance of healthy food. Results: The level of public knowledge before being given education was 43% of people with moderate knowledge levels and 57% in the middle of high knowledge levels. While the level of public knowledge after being given education is 40% of people with moderate levels of knowledge and 60% with high levels of knowledge. Conclusion: Education can increase people's knowledge about the importance of healthy food.Keywords: education, healthy food, prevent disease

Abstract

The focus group discussion results and a survey involving 100 heads of households revealed that 62% consume fast food, 34% have a history of degenerative diseases, 31% manage waste by burning it, 49% smoke inside the house, and 64% complain of respiratory diseases. The health issues observed are interconnected, such as the high sodium content in fast food consumption which can lead to degenerative disease symptoms. The aim of this community service is to empower and intervene in the community, thereby enhancing knowledge and fostering an attitude to change inappropriate health behaviours. The implementation method involves lectures with demonstrations, the use of video media, and special exercises for degenerative diseases. Partners involved include the local community leader, P2KB, and eleven (11) academics. Summative evaluation is conducted on the target community involved in activities like pre-post tests. The results achieved from the program implementation are that 86.67% experienced an increase in knowledge about healthy food, 98.18% of the targets received information about the dangers of smoking inside the house, and 95.56% experienced an increase in knowledge related to degenerative diseases.Keywords: fill my plate, hypertension exercise, cigarette smoke demonstration, community empowerment.

Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is an acute febrile disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti vector. Along with efforts to reduce the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, it is necessary to control the Aedes aegypti vector through natural insecticides that are environmentally friendly by utilizing lime peel extract in the form of essential oils. This community service activity aims to educate the people of Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency, regarding the formulation for using natural mosquitoes from lime peel in the form of essential oils. Method: This community service activity has several methods, namely lectures, questions, and answers, and filling in pre-test and post-test sheets to measure community knowledge regarding lime peel products. Conclusion: The application of this product is expected to effectively kill Aedes aegypti larvae so that the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever can be minimized. After conducting education, it can be seen that public knowledge has increased regarding using natural anti-mosquito formulations from lime peel. Abstract

Background: The application of synthetic pesticides has risks and negative impacts on the environment, to reduce these risks it is necessary to introduce the application of environmentally friendly plant-based pesticides but does not exclude the main objective of eradicating Aedes aegeypti and Aedes albopictus mosquito larvae. Betel leaf (Paper berle L.) is a plant that has a toxic substance for insects, especially mosquito larvae. Betel leaves contain alkaloid compounds and other compounds such as essential oils, cineol and tanning substances. Methods: This research uses the observation or field research method by going directly to the community and preparing BIOSMO products and then socializing them by providing product samples and distribution of pre-tests and post-tests before and after the delivery of innovations to the community in Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency. Results: The results obtained from this activity are a natural biolarvicidal product from betel leaf extract and increased abilities obtained from the results of pre-test and post-test distribution before and after delivering innovations to the community in Suci Village, Panti District, Jember Regency. Conclusion: BIOSMO (Biolarvasida Betel Mosquito) is a natural biolarvicidal product used to eradicate mosquito larvae. This product utilizes dried green betel leaves as its main raw material, which is of course environmentally friendly and can reduce the use of abate.Keywords: Larvicidal dengue fever, biolarvicidal, biosmo, betel, abate.

Abstract

Background: Cases of sexual violence against children continue to increase yearly, and East Java province has the highest number of sexual violence cases in Indonesia in 2022. In 2021, KPAI noted that 36% of victims of sexual violence were junior high school / middle school-age children. One of the causes of this condition is the lack of access to information on sexual and reproductive education for adolescents. The limited access of adolescents with parents in the boarding school environment makes adolescent girls spend more of their days in the boarding school environment with their peers, so the role of KARINA is needed to provide information related to reproductive health and sexual violence. KARINA education and strengthening activities aim to improve the skills and confidence of adolescents in their duties as peer educators and counselors. Method: This activity was carried out at MTs Unggulan Nuris Jember Regency from September 5 to 19, 2022. This activity uses the Participatory Action Research method involving KARINA and 59 female students. Result: This activity was carried out through two stages: training for KARINA and providing education by KARINA to 59 peers. Most aspects of knowledge about sexual violence of adolescent girls have increased after the intervention. The majority of young women understand that exhibitionist behavior is sexual violence behavior. However, most young women do not understand who could potentially become a perpetrator of sexual violence. Conclusion: Overall, adolescent girls have gained comprehensive knowledge about reproductive health and the risk of sexual violence. In addition, KARINA has also played a role as a peer educator in increasing adolescent girls' knowledge about sexual violence, contributing to efforts to protect adolescent girls from the risk of sexual violence.Keywords: cadres of santri, peer educator, sexual abuse prevention.

Abstract

Background: Sekawan's is an association of drug-resistant TB sufferers who have recovered and was founded in 2016. Sekawan's need to have more technique in managing groups when conducting education or when they become facilitators of activities is a technical obstacle for human resources, even though the facilitator's job is to clarify the purpose of the meeting and design a suitable process. Participatory, fun, and engaging, managing the conversation process during meetings and encouraging groups to dare to enter creative areas so that the material obtained by participants is easy to understand, significantly reducing boredom using ice breakers. Method: The general aim of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of the target audience regarding techniques for managing TB education groups through Ice Breaking. This activity lasted 2 months, from situation analysis to reporting and writing articles. The main target is all 13 Sekawan's administrators. Community service techniques, namely increasing knowledge and skills in managing groups through ice breaking, will be held on Saturday, 13 August 2022, at Seger Nusantara Agro Edupark. Results: The result was that there were ten games taught to Sekawan's, >50% of the targets were able to practice being a facilitator that had been trained and the game module media received a certificate of recognition from Sekawan's because it was used as a daily guide when being a facilitator. Conclusion: This activity has shown the enthusiasm of participants in participating in the activity from start to finish from planning, implementation to monitoring and evaluation and received a good response from various parties including Sekawan's partner, namely Lung Hospital which has become a place for direct practice of educating the facilitators as a result of the activity capacity building.Keywords: TB, facilitator, ice-breaking.
