Abstract

Astronomy is counted as a natural science that always gets the most attention of humans all the time. Lately, in Indonesia began to appear astronomical observatories that examine various things. The Falak Observatory of the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (OIF UMSU) is one that has played an important role in the development of astronomy in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra. In this observatory there are classical and modern astronomical tools. Among the role and contribution of this observatory is to provide information for students about the phenomenon and importance of astronomy, then training for students, astronomy studies, and others. The existence of this observatory is basically an appreciation of science and technology that are part of civilization.

Abstract

يعتبر علم الفلك من العلوم الطبيعة التي حظيت باهتمام كبير من الإنسان عبر الزمن . ومن ذلك البحث هو في مسألة رؤية الأهلة التي اختلفت العلماء حولها حتى الآن . فابن المجدي في كتابه "غنية الفهيم والطريق إلى حل التقويم" قد حل هذا الإشكال من منظور الفلك والرياضيات . يقول ابن المجدي إن الهلال إذا لم يكن قريبًا من حدود الرُّؤْيَة والامْتِنَاع، والاعتماد أنْ تنظرَ إلى مقوّمي النَّيْرَيْن نصف نهار التاسع والعشرين من الرُّؤْيَة وبُهْتَيْهما وساعات نصف النهار بعد أنْ تزيدَ عليها ثلثي ساعة، ثم استخرج البعد لتلك الساعات من جداول أبهات الشمس». فهو يذكر هنا طريقة المأخذ إذا لم يكن الهلال قريبا من حدود الرؤية والامتناع. والكتاب مطابق لأسلوب عصره ولمعاييْر العلم السائدة آنذاك.

Abstract

Currently we are dealing and living in the great currents of globalization. The process of change takes place so quickly. According to Paul Streeten in his book, “Globalisation: Threat and Opportunity (2001)”, besides convenience globalization also gives variety of social changes. Streeten said that globalization gives birth to threat on the one side and the opportunity on the other side.1 Sociologically, threat and opportunity of course will also be faced by every religion as an important element of society. Therefore, inevitably, the roles of religion need to be revitalized. People still expect that religion can face various problems arising as a consequence of the changes. Komaruddin Hidayat even states that religion as a figure personifying the "superman" who is able to make a miracle to find a way out on a variety of issues that arise in the community.2 This paper will see how religion promotes the basic values to face the modern life. Abstract

Abstrak Salah satu tokoh pemikiran Islam di Indonesia yang turut serta menciptakan dinamika pemikiran Islam adalah Ahmad Syafii Maarif. Lahir dari kultur Minang yang kaya dengan berbagai kearifan dan kental nuansa keislaman membuat Syafii Maarif akrab dengan ajaran Islam. Situasi sosial tersebut memberikan pengaruh besar terhadap bangunan intelektual Syafii maarif selanjutnya. Meskipun lahir dari keluarga yang sangat sederhana, namun ia memiliki kemauan yang cukup keras untuk terus belajar hingga ke fase pendidikan yang paling tinggi. Tradisi merantau yang telah mendarahdaging bagi masyarakat Minang mengantarkan Syafii Maarif meninggalkan kampung halaman untuk menimba ilmu dan pengalaman di berbagai tempat, sampai pada akhirnya ia terdampar di Ohio Athens dan Chicago Amerika Serikat ketika menyelesaikan program master dan doktornya. Pemikiran keislaman Syafii Maarif ditandai oleh Alquran sebagai kerangka berpikir dan sejarah sebagai analisisnya. Abstract

Da'wah is not only a matter of the afterlife, but also world affairs to create an Islamic social system. In the context of Indonesia, da'wah can be understood as a very strategic medium for the reconstruction of a pluralistic community culture. It is at this level that da'wah should play itself, namely as a force which can manage plurality into energy that can awaken the nation's civilization. Therefore, a paradigm and perspective is needed in addressing this highly pluralistic society. Da'wah must be a binding factor within the society, not a breaking factor which can strengthen the differences. Plurality is an interesting fact to be responded wisely. Plurality will greatly provide valuable lessons and wisdom in carrying out da'wah. Allah creates a plurality to enrich people so that they can complement and learn each other.

Abstract

Islam came to the earth to bring the missions of the divinity (ilahiyah) and the humanity (insaniyah). The universal values ​​in Islam are very important to be implanted as a view of life in order to summon human values ​​in social life. Therefore, the foundation of ethics such as the concept of al-’adalah (justice), al-hurriyyah (independence), as-shura (democracy), al–musawah (equality), al–ukhuwwah (brotherhood), and at-tasamuh (tolerance), are very important to be more appreciated widely. By an approach to perfect the morals of mankind, without eliminating the previous tradition and even able to accommodate local culture, that’s the value which the Prophet had as his view of life when developing the precepts of humanity and mankind in Arab society at that time. Therefore, the researchers concluded that the research about the local wisdom of Batubara’s Malay culture in Tanjung Tiram district is a miniature that can be applied in other communities, because Batubara’s Malay can accommodate the Prophet’s view. This study has revealed how the implementation of cultural values ​​can coexist with Islamic values ‘​​rahmatan lil alamin’ and integrate Islamic values ​​in the local wisdom of the inhabitant’s culture by using descriptive qualitative method in which the researchers were involved actively in meeting the participants, environments and institutions related to the research in natural situations. The researchers also conducted interviews with informen in order to reveal the application of Islamic values ​​in the culture of the Malay community in maintaining harmony between religious and cultural plurality. The local wisdom such as the value of tolerance in rhymes, justice, freedom, democracy, and tolerance on the leadership of lima laras kingdom, the value of respect on the traditional Malay dances, the value of patience, precision, beauty in the weaving process of Batubara’s traditional cloth (songket) are capable of being a symbol of harmony between religious and cultural plurality in Tanjung Tiram district, Batubara Regency.   Keywords : Islam , local wisdom , Malay culture Batubara, harmony

Abstract

This research aims to comprehend and discover the construction of actiontowards LGBT students at a university in Malang. Next, this research focuses upon the accommodative-persuasive attitude, which is influenced by humanism, of the academic community towards LGBT students. For that reason, this study employs phenomenological approach to acquire substantive meaning within the dynamics of LGBT students. This study suggests that LGBT is formed not only form naturally (essentialism), but also through social environment (social constructionism). Apart from the two major views upon how LGBT is developed, the academic communities do not legitimize any treatments against LGBT students under rationale that LGBT community is less than God’s creation. The academic communities have been attempting to “realign” the LGBT students to their nature. They believe that LGBT students have the fundamental rights as God’s creation (as in line with other human being) and those rights must get attention from all elements of academic communities.

Abstract

In this service is expected to form a concept of guidance to the Muslim community, as Muhammadiyah's next generation who can understand about fardu kifayah. As well as making a simple generation that can prosper, the values of Islam in society. In this training, participants will be able to understand and master about fardu kifayah, which can be developed in society, and teach it back to the public about the real fardhu kifayah. As well as giving birth to talented young da'i, in understanding the true religious knowledge. Therefore, in this dedication we want the future of the generation that will continue the struggle of Muhammadiyah, to educate the Muslim community, and continue the dakwah of muhammadiyah about fardu kifayah which is now a lot of deviations everywhere.
