Abstract

Background : Improving public health can be conducted by providing the health service of facilities and infrastructure. RSGM Gusti Hasan Aman becomes the center for the dental and oral health center, especially in the province of South Kalimantan. Based on the patient visit data can be acknowledged that 81% of the patient visit in 2020 and 57,6% in 2022 are patients taken or treated by professional student or young dentists. The different amounts of patients visiting are one of the causes of the less impact of the marketing mix in people that conducted by RSGM Gusti Hasan Aman. Purpose: Analyze marketing mix (product, price, place, promotion, people, process, physical evidence) to patient visits at RSGM Gusti Hasan Aman. Methods: Analytical observational research with cross-sectional research design. The population in this research are outpatients at RSGM Gusti Hasan Aman with a research sample of 107 respondents. Results: The results of the chi-square test on the analysis of the influence of marketing mix, product, price, place, promotion, people, process, and physical evidence affect the level of visits. Conclusion: Increasing the marketing mix in each dimension will raise the number of patient visits in utilizing health services.

Abstract

Background: Chronic periodontitis is a disease of the oral cavity that is influenced by the presence of plaque bacteria caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis which can cause chronic infection of the periodontal tissue. Kecapi leaf (Sandoricum koetjape) extract contains active compounds in the form of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, phenolics, and triterpenoids which function as antibacterial against the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Kecapi leaf extract is used as an alternative to using herbal gluconate to prevent infection caused of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Purpose: To determine the antibacterial effectiveness of kecapi leaf extract against bacterial growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Methods: This study used a pure experimental research (true experimental) with post-test only with control design, consists of 7 treatment groups, including: concentrated kecapi leaf extract 5%, 10%, 15%, 25%, 50%, chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% as positive control, and distilled water as negative control. It was repeated 7 times, the antibacterial effectiveness was assessed from Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) on BHIB and NA media by dilution method. Results: MIC on kecapi leaf extract at a concentration of 5% showed the smallest result of -0.147 and the MBC value at a concentration of 50% did not show the growth of bacterial colonies. Conclusion: Kecapi leaf extract with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 25%, 50%, and positive control was effective in inhibiting and killing bacterial growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Keywords: Antibacterial, Kecapi leaf extract, Porphyromonas gingivalis

Abstract

Background: Based on the data from Riskesdas (Primary Health Research) of 2013, the prevalence of malocclusion in 12-15 years old in the Province of South Kalimantan was 5.6%, which was the age group with the highest malocclusion over other age groups. Malocclusion itself is a dental abnormality that ranks third after dental caries and periodontal disease in oral health problems in Indonesia with a very high prevalence of around 83.3%. Treatment for malocclusion condition can be performed by orthodontic treatment. One of the indexes for measuring orthodontic treatment needs is IKPO (Orthodontic Treatment Needs Indicator). This indicator is highly suitable to be used as an instrument to find out the orthodontic treatment needs of students, especially in Indonesia. Objective: To find out the level of orthodontic treatment needs in students 12-15 years old using Orthodontic Treatment Needs Indicator (IKPO) according to age and gender. Methods: The study conducted was quantitative descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were 108 students of 12-15 years old in 5 Junior High Schools in Banjarmasin. Every sample filled out IKPO questionnaires to asses orthodontic treatment needs.  Results: The results of the study showed that 88% of respondents need orthodontic treatment. This consisted of 58 female students and 37 male students. The age group that required the most orthodontic treatment in this study was 12 years old. Conclusion: Orthodontic treatment needs in students 12-15 years old were high in Banjarmasin, which was measured using IKPO.

Abstract

Background: Tooth loss is most experienced by the elderly population. The number of elderly people is increasing in Indonesia in direct proportion to the increase in cases of tooth loss. Tooth loss can be treated with prosthodontic treatment performed by dentists, so dentists need to have sufficient knowledge and skills. Objectives: To get an overview of the knowledge of dentists who graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University in 2017-2019 regarding prosthodontic treatment in the elderly. Methods: This study uses a descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional type. The measuring tool uses a questionnaire via google form containing 25 questions adopted from foreign journals with similar research that was tested for validity and reliability. After being tested, 21 valid and reliable questions were filled by 89 respondents. Data collection is carried out online and the data is presented in the form of a frequency distribution. Results: The highest average score (mean) obtained was 41, while the lowest average score (mean) obtained was 29. The average score (mean) that most respondents obtained was 39 with the average value (mean) of respondents 92.86%. Conclusion: The average score (mean) obtained is 37.12 with a maximum score of 42. The average value (mean) of respondents is 88.38%. Dentist's knowledge of prosthodontic treatment in the elderly is good. Keywords: Dentist, Elderly, Knowledge, Prosthodontics

Abstract

Background: The weakness of Ca(OH)2 is its low compressive strength and mechanical properties which can affect the stability of the material to the liquid in the tooth root canal so that it can dissolve the root canal medicament material. Due to the various weaknesses of Ca(OH)2, the researchers are interested in combining Ca(OH)2 with natural ingredients extracted from Musa acuminata (Mauli Banana) stem. Musa acuminata stem extract  (MaSE) contains bioactive compounds such as tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids and lycopene which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral properties. One of the requirements for pulp capping material is to have sufficient compressive strength, therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to test the value of the compressive strength of the combination of Ca(OH)2 with Musa acuminata stem extract. Purpose: To analyze the compressive strength of the pulp capping material from the combination of calcium hydroxide and Musa acuminata stem extract, with a ratio of 1:1; 1:1.5 ; and 1.5:1. Method: This research is a pure experimental study with a posttest-only design with a control group design, consisting of 4 treatment groups, including: group 1 the combination of Ca(OH)2 with Musa acuminata stem extract at 1:1, group 2 1:1.5, group 3 1.5:1, and group 4 as a positive control. Results: One Way Anova test (p<0.05) which means there is a significant difference. Data analysis was continued with the LSD Post Hoc test (p<0.05) which showed that there were significant differences between groups, between each treatment group. Conclusion: The combination of Ca(OH)2 with 50% MaSE and PG ratio of 1.5 : 1 : 0.375, has the highest compressive strength (1.40 MPa), so it can be concluded that the more Musa acuminata stem extract in the combination, the lower the compressive strength. Keywords : Calcium hydroxide, Compressive strength, Musa acuminata stem extract

Abstract

Background: Impacted teeth occur when teeth fail to erupt or cannot fully erupt along the dental arch in the normal pattern of dental growth. Untreated impacted teeth can cause pain, tooth decay, inflammatory lesions, odontogenic cysts, and tumors. Pathological lesions in impacted teeth that are not clinically visible are usually found on routine radiographic examinations. Panoramic radiography is used as an initial imaging technique to evaluate impacted teeth and associated lesions. Purpose: This study aims to see the characteristics of radiolucent lesions associated with impacted teeth based on panoramic radiographic archives of patients at RSGM Unpad. Methods: This is an observational descriptive study with purposive sampling technique using secondary data of panoramic radiographs from the Dental Radiology Installation RSGM Unpad. The radiographs were inverted to enhance the visualization of characteristics such as location, shape, borders and associations. The data is presented in the table of frequency and distribution. Results: 346 samples of radiolucent lesions associated with impacted teeth were obtained from 8034 impacted teeth. There were 323 (93,4%) pericoronal lesions, 344 (99,4%) monolocular lesions, 218 (63%) had well-defined borders, and 345 (99,7%) lesions caused bone destruction. The prevalence of radiolucent lesions associated with impacted teeth is 4.3%. Conclusion: The characteristics of radiolucent lesions associated with impacted teeth at the Dental Radiology Installation RSGM Unpad most common are pericoronal lesions, monolocular shape, well-defined borders, and the effect on the surrounding structure is bone destruction.Impacted, Panoramic Radiograph, Radiolucent Lesion

Abstract

Background: Excessive free radicals cause oxidative stress which is dangerous for the body. The number of free radicals in the body can be controlled with the presence of antioxidants. Kelakai leaves (Stenochlaena palustris.) are known to have activity as an antioxidant which has the potential to become an ingredient in herbal medicine. Purpose: To prove whether there is a toxic effect of administering kelakai leaf extract on the kidneys of Wistar rats based on analysis of blood urea and creatinine levels. Method: A pure experimental study with a posttest-only with control group design method, there were 4 groups consisting of 1 negative control group and 3 treatment groups who were given kelakai leaf extract orally for 28 days and then analyzed the blood urea and creatinine levels of the Wistar rats. Results: The average values of urea and creatinine levels in the three treatment groups were still within the normal range. There was a significant difference in the urea levels of all groups (p<0.05), and there was no significant difference in the creatinine levels of treatment groups 2 and 3 (p>0.05). Conclusion: Kelakai leaf extract given orally for 28 days did not cause toxic effects on the kidneys of Wistar rats based on analysis of blood urea and creatinine levels.

Abstract

Background: Accumulation of dental plaque can cause of dental and oral health problems such as caries and periodontitis. Dental plaque is colorless so it is difficult to see visually. Super red dragon fruit can be an alternative disclosing solution because it contains. Objectives: The purpose of this research was to determine the content and the effect of anthocyanin disclosing solution freeze dry super red dragon fruit on dental plaque index. Methods: This research is a type of the Experimental Laboratory and Quasi Experimental design research with post-test control group design method. Thirty samples were used and there were three treatment groups: the application of aquadest, super red dragon fruit disclosing solution, and synthetic disclosing solution. Super red dragon fruit freeze dry was tested for antioxidants and tested total anthocyanin levels using the pH difference method at Unjani Pharmaceutical Laboratory. Research on plaque index examination was carried out in the Integrated Dentistry Laboratory Unjani. Dental plaque index assessment is measured using PHPI (Patient Hygiene Performance Index) method. Data were analyzed using Kruskall Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests (p<0.05). Results: The results showed an anthocyanin content of 9.0764 mg/100 g and a significant difference in the anthocyanin disclosing solution freeze dry treatment of super red dragon fruit on the dental plaque index with a value of p = 0.000. Conclusion: In conclusion this research indicates that the freeze-dried super red dragon fruit disclosing solution contains anthocyanin and has an effect on the dental plaque index. This shows the potential of anthocyanin disclosing solution freeze dry super red dragon fruit can be used to detect and control dental plaque, but further research is needed to determine the length of time attached to anthocyanin disclosing solution super red dragon fruit to the tooth surface

Abstract

Introduction: Lichen planus (LP) is a mucocutaneous, chronic, autoimmune disease, with various clinical manifestations, often involving the oral mucosa, and commonly occurs in adults 30-60 years old.  Among the various scoring systems for oral lichen planus, the Elsabagh scoring system is valid, accurate, relatively easier to teach, relatively faster to master, and does not require complex calculations.Objective: This paper aimed to report and evaluate the successful therapy given based on using the Elsabagh scoring system in oral lichen planus. Case: A 53-years-old woman came to the Department of Oral Medicine with a main complaint of pain in the upper gums and lower right left a year ago. The pain got worse when eating highly spiced and spicy foods. She felt pain when brushing her teeth. Extra oral examination revealed multiple white plaques on the vermilion border. Intra-oral examination revealed erosive, erythema, accompanied by white plaques mesh-like shaped, irregular, and painful, on the upper labial, right and left buccal mucosa, posterior teeth of the mandible that extend into the mucobuccal fold, and gingiva, palate, and posterior gingiva of the right and left maxillae. Amalgam fillings were found on teeth 37 and 46 with plaque and calculus. Based on clinical features, the patient was diagnosed with Multiple Oral Lichen Planus of Erosive and Reticular type. Case management: The patient received topical and systemic corticosteroids, mouthwashes, and supplements. She was advised to stop eating highly spiced and spicy foods, replace amalgam filling with tooth-colored filling, scaling, and replace removable dentures with permanent dentures. The evaluation result using the Elsabagh scoring system showed an improvement from the value of 8 on the initial visit to 3 on the last visit. There was an improvement in the patient's condition after treatment based on evaluation using the Elsabagh scoring system in this case. The Elsabagh scoring system can correlate disease severity with subjective symptoms, allowing comparisons between the initial evaluation of lesions and treatment efficacy or disease progression in oral lichen planus. Keywords: Autoimmune, Elsabagh Scoring System, Oral Lichen Planus

Abstract

Background: The material thickness is one factor that influences the polymerization of resin composites. Bulk fill resin composite is an efficient dental resin composite restoration material because it can be cured to a thickness of up to 4-5 mm. The thickness of the material can also affect the temperature rise, while maintaining the temperature is very important because a significant increase can damage the pulp. Purpose: This research aimed to analyze the base surface temperature of bulk fill resin composite with different thicknesses. Methods: Thirty bulk fill resin composite samples with a diameter of 5 mm were divided into three groups with different thicknesses, namely group I (3 mm), group II (4 mm), and group III (5 mm). Each group of samples was cured using an LED Light Curing Unit for 20 seconds, and carried out simultaneously with the measurement of the base surface temperature using a type-K digital thermocouple. Data analyzed using One Way ANOVA and LSD post hoc tests. Results: The mean and standard deviation of the base surface temperature of bulk fill resin composite in groups I, II, and III, respectively, is 37.56 ± 1.06oC, group II 36.89 ± 1.23oC, and group III 36.00 ± 1.2 oC. It showed significantly different between the groups (p<0,05). Conclusion: The thicker the bulk fill resin composite, the lower the base surface temperature.
