Abstract

The purpose of this review article was to understand the application of metacognitive strategies in science education as well as identify the syntax of these strategies and their impact on the studied variable. The method used was called a systematic literature review (SLR), and it consisted of three steps: planning, carrying out, and reporting. The process of searching and filtering articles was carried out using the PRISMA method in electronic journals. Sixteen articles were relevant to the research goal and were published in twelve journals (Scopus). The results of the study indicated that students were most often used as research subjects in metacognitive strategy research. Most articles on metacognitive strategy in science learning were published in 2019, and quasi-experimental research designs were most frequently used. Chemistry is the scientific discipline that uses this strategy the most. The main metacognitive strategy syntax had three stages: planning, implementing learning, monitoring, and evaluating. The most researched metacognitive strategy has an influence on improving student learning outcomes. Therefore, metacognitive strategies could be a choice for teachers in schools to improve student learning outcomes in science. Metacognitive strategies still have great opportunities to be developed and applied in science learning in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the validity and reliability of a critical thinking skills instrument on the topic of wave-particle dualism using the Rasch model. Data collection was carried out by administering a critical thinking skills test to students enrolled in a modern physics course. A total of 36 students from a university in West Nusa Tenggara participated. Data analysis was performed using the Rasch model through the Winsteps 4.6.1 software. The results indicated that the instrument is valid and reliable. The instrument's validity was tested by examining the data's fit to the Rasch model through infit and outfit MNSQ values and ZSTD, all of which were within the expected acceptance range. Construct validity was analysed through standardized residual variance, showing that the Rasch model can explain most of the variance in the data. Similarly, the instrument's reliability showed that the item reliability was in the very good category (0.93) and the person reliability was in the moderate category (0.68), with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.86, indicating very good internal reliability. These findings confirm that the Rasch model is effective in assessing and improving the quality of critical thinking skills evaluation instruments in the context of modern physics education.

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) present new challenges in global competition. This has been reflected in the Merdeka Curriculum, which incorporates green chemistry materials and project-based learning models. However, the lack of project-based learning module has become a significant obstacle in implementing this curriculum in schools. This research aims to determine the quality of the green chemsitry module that was developed. The product development follows the ADDIE model, though the research only covers the development stage. The initial product was reviewed by 6 experts to assess its quality. A Likert-scale questionnaire was used as the evaluation instrument, consisting of four components with a total of 33 statements. Meanwhile, the user response instrument consisted of 12 statements. The results showed that the project-based green chemistry module was deemed feasible for implementation in learning. This was evidenced by the ideal percentage from the product feasibility assessment by experts at 95.95%, which falls into the Very Good category. Furthermore, the small-scale trial results indicated an ideal percentage of 82.58% categorized as Good. This module supports the implementation of SDGs in reducing environmental pollution, as it includes several projects that students can apply in waste management.

Abstract

The learning process on Hormone in Human Reproduction material of XI class of senior high school has employed Merdeka Curriculum. After the content of the Merdeka Curriculum book was analyzed, it was determined that the practicum activities were limited to hormones in the menstrual cycle and did not meet the requirements of phase F learning achievement. During practicum activities at school, teachers exclusively employ textbooks. The practicum guidelines in textbooks have not been able to comprehensively guide the students to complete the practicum activities, resulting in a lack of comprehension. The objective of this research was to generate a practicum guide that was valid, feasible, convenient, and effective. This research was a development study that employs the Plomp model (preliminary stage, prototype stage, and assessment stage). The validity test was assessed by three lecturers. The feasibility test was administered to three students with varying abilities (High, Moderate, Low), and six students were randomly selected. The practical guide convenience test was administered to one teacher and 45 students. The data was processed using a modified percentage formula from Ridwan (2013). The validity value was 88.68% (very valid), the feasibility test for three students was 96.11% (very feasible), and the feasibility of six students was 89.58% (very feasible). The convenience test administered by the teacher yielded results of 98.5% (very easy) and 84.34% students (very easy). The effectiveness for skill test yielded results of 81.14% (very effective) and the effectiveness for attitude yielded 91% (very effective), which were processed using the modified percentage formula from Sudijono (2006). Thus, the practicum guide developed for hormone material in human reproduction of XI class of senior high school is valid, feasible, convenient, and effective in the use of the learning process.
