Abstract

The main problem of this study is the implementation of physics learning activities that do not involve the scientific process that can train students' science literacy ability, especially in the competence aspects. As a result, the development of students' science literacy ability is not maximal. A solution given in this study is a research-based digital module as teaching material. This study was conducted at SMA Dharma Karya UT with a quasi-experimental method and nonequivalent control group design. The study used purposive sampling to decide the study's sample with the following classification XI IPA 2 as the experimental class with 25 samples and XI IPA 1 as the controlled class with 25 samples. The instruments of the study were test and non-test. The science literacy test contained ten questions, and the non-test was a questionnaire. In addition, based on a statistical calculation of the post-test by using a nonparametric test, Mann-Whitney showed that a significant score 2-tailed (0.011) < significant level (α=0.05). It showed a research-based digital module's effect on students' science literacy ability. Meanwhile, the result of N-Gain showed the enhancement of students' science literacy ability; this can be seen from the superior N-Gain value in the experimental class. Moreover, the questionnaire also showed that using research-based digital modules for students' science literacy ability was good (73%).

Abstract

Virtual Reality (VR) development is expected to answer the problem of learning loss in education, especially in disaster mitigation studies. Using VR with artificial environments of scenes and objects appearing to be real, various disaster scenarios were made possible to learn. When this computer-enhanced learning was introduced to high school students, it could reduce both limitations and challenges of real-world learning. Visena (Virtual Museum of Tsunami) is virtual reality-based learning media in the form of a virtual museum which helps students understand the concept of waves and increase awareness of disaster risk potential in earthquakes and tsunamis. This study aims to test the validity, effectiveness, and practicality of Visena when it is implemented in a classroom setting. Visena was developed during the study using a 4D model of define, design, develop, and disseminate. Visena learning media were classified as very valid according to the validation process results. Student’s response were categorized very good despite a limited trial of Visena in class. Some students showed good performance with significant results when using Visena. It is recommended to use a smartphone to reduce dizziness when using glasses, and the material should be adjusted to the characteristics of the students. Therefore, an introduction to learning material and teacher assistance is needed.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the motivation level of high school students during online learning using Google Incorporated. This research is included in the type of survey research. The survey was conducted in one high school in the city of Yogyakarta. Respondents consisted of 32 people (L = 46% and P = 54%) students of class X. Student motivation was evaluated using a motivational instrument consisting of 14 items and spread over three aspects: motivation, self-efficacy, and responsibility. The instrument uses a 5-point Likert scale, from Strongly Disagree (1) to Strongly Agree (5). The level of student motivation was analyzed using the Rasch model with the Logit Value of Person (LVP) technique combined with the Wright map and Differential Item Functioning (DIF). The analysis results show that 41% of students have a moderate level of motivation, 25% at a high level, 19% at a very high level, and 16% at a low level. The results of the DIF analysis show that one of the items (Re4) in the Responsibility aspect tends to benefit female students. This has implications for the emergence of student interest in studying physics.

Abstract

Putu cake is a traditional snack that is rarely liked by the public. One uniqueness of the putu cake is the sound of the steam produced. Making putu cake can be related to the concept of physics. This study aims to examine the concept of sound waves in the process of making putu cakes for physics learning media. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Sources of data were obtained through interviews and observations. The collected data is then analyzed and presented as descriptive text. The results obtained are that the larger the mass of the putu cake, the smaller the frequency and amplitude, according to Marsenne's Law. The frequency value is directly proportional to the amplitude but inversely proportional to the surface area. In making putu cake, humans can hear frequencies ranging from 1,400 Hz to 1,800 Hz. The concept of physics in the process of making putu cakes can be used as a physics learning media for sound wave material that is useful for teachers
