Abstract

Aedes aegypti L. mosquito is the vector of dengue fever disease. The effort to control the vector is by applying anti-mosquito lotion to the skin. Basil essential oil was formulated into anttimosquito lotions which is practice and easy to be carried anywhere. The use of atimosquito lotion with natural active compound of basil essential oil is one of safe solutions to repelt mosquitos. This study aimed to calculate yield of essential oil from basil leaves, to identify the active compounds, to measure protection ability of the antimosquito lotions, to to anlyse physical properties of the lotions and to analyse perception of panelists toward the lotions. The essential oil was extracted using steam distillation. The active compounds were analysed using GS-MS. Protection ability of the lotion toard Ae. aegypti L. was tested under laboratory condition using hand in cage method. Physical properties of the lotion were measured for organoleptic, pH, viscosity and homogeneity. Results showed that the yield of essential oil from basil leaves was 0,26% ± 0,05 w/w. GCMS test results showed there were 25 active compounds of the oil. The highest protection ability against A aegypti L. was lotion with 5% basil essential oil. Organoleptic test results show a thick texture, yellowish white color, aroma of olive oil and basil and a soft impression on the skin. Results of pH, viscosity and homogeneity tests show that anti-mosquito lotions containing essential oil from basil leaves met the requirements in the Indonesian National Standard. The hedonic test shows that panelists like lotion with 5% basil essential oil. The effect of lotion gives softness, comfort and the absence of sensitivity symptoms after being applied to the skin. Abstract

A study about “intestine histology structure of Silver Sharkminnow (Osteochilus hasseltii C.V) in Singkarak Lake, West Sumatera” has been done at Animal Structure and Developmental Laboratory, Department of Biology, Mathematic and Science Faculty, Andalas University, Padang. This study used an observational method to microscopically examine the histology of intestinal asang fish (Osteochilus hasseltii C.V.) directly at four locations in Lake Singkarak, namely Sumani, Paninggahan, Sumpur, Ombilin using purposive sampling method.. Histolgical samples of intestine were isolated, fixated, dehydrated and embedded on paraffin, stained using Haematoxylin-Eosin and observation using microscope. The results showed some histological alteration of gastrc and intestine samples in each location. Those alteration varied from edema , vili erotion, hemorrhage, lysis and necrosis.

Abstract

The pituitary gland of broiler chickens (Gallus sp.) is empirically known to have gonadotropins to accelerate ovulation in fish. This research was conducted to determine the reproductive performance and survival of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.) Larvae of adult male and female mature gonads by 20 pairs. This study used a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications to obtain 20 experimental units. Doses of pituitary extract used is without injection of pituitary chicken pituitary extract (P0), injection of pituitary chicken pituitary extract with a dose of 600 mg/kgbb (P1), 900 mg/kgbb (P2) and 1200 mg/kgbb sangkuriang catfish (P3). Intramuscular injection of extracts in the ventral dorsal fin with a volume of 0.5 mL/kgbb. Descriptive data analysis for gonad maturity level, ovulation response, egg performance. Statistical analysis of data for morphometric aspects using the Wilcoxon test, for latency time, relative fecundity, fertilization success, hatching success, and larval survival aspects using One Way Anova using SPSS version 25. The results of statistical analysis showed significant differences in reproductive performance (relative latency and fecundity time), successful fertilization and successful hatching of eggs, but there was no significant difference in survival (number of live larvae, length and weight) larvae of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.). Broiler chicken pituitary extract (Gallus sp.) can improve reproductive performance, fertilization and hatching success but does not affect egg performance and survival of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias sp.) larvae. Abstract

The success of rabies vaccination is characterized by the growth of seropositive (?0,5 IU) antibody titers after vaccination. One of the tests carried out to monitor antibody growth is ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay). This study aims to determine the effect of different vaccine doses on rabies antibody growth in kintamani dogs. The study was conducted at Perum Taman Graha, Jimbaran and Bali Besar Veteriner (BBVet) Denpasar, Bali. The design of the study used 2 variables, namely differences in vaccine doses (0.5 and 0.75 cc) and blood collection times (1, 2 and 3 months after vaccination). The results showed that vaccine dose of 0.5 cc produced higher antibody titers than vaccine dose of 0.75 cc, however it was not significantly different based on t-test. Abstract

The kidneys are an important excretory organ for removing the rest of the body's metabolism. Kidney stones can affect kidney function. Celery contains flavonoid compounds that can improve the histological structure of the kidneys. This study aims to determine the effect of celery extract on the histological structure of the kidneys, namely the diameter of the glomerulus and tubule with protein deposits. This research is experimental with completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment group was divided into 4 groups, namely, negative control (K-), rats were only given food and drink; positive control (K+), rats induced Ethylene glycol (EG) 0.75% + Ammonium Chloride (AK) 2%, dose 1 (D1), rats induced EG 0.75% + AK 2% and celery extract 100 mg / kg, dose 2 (D2), rats induced EG 0.75% + AK 2% and celery extract 200 mg / kgBB. Celery extract was given for 14 days by gavage. Celery extract at doses of 100 and 200 mg / kgBB were able to improve the histological structure of the rats' kidneys induced by EG 0.75% and AK 2%. Abstract

The existence of development can change the composition, vegetation structure of mangrove forest. The development can also reduce the absorption of carbon gas in mangrove forests. This study aims to: (1) determine the composition, structure of mangrove vegetation in the area of ??mangrove forests of Ngurah Rai Denpasar forest park, (2) determine the condition of biomass and the potential of mangrove carbon reserves in Tahura Ngurah Rai Denpasar. This research was conducted using the Line Transect Plot method. Along the transect line plots of 10mx10m, 5mx5m and 2mx2m are made. The Purposive Sampling method was used to determine the carbon absorption in the study. Potential analysis of carbon biomass deposits is carried out based on allometric numbers. The percentage analysis of the CO2 absorption is done based on the results of analytical laboratory test. From the analysis of vegetation there are 8 types of mangroves. The highest of important value index in Station I is Rhizopora apiculata with a value of 128.10%, while the highest value in Station II is Rhizopora mucronata with a value of 130.83% and the highest value in Station III is Rhizopora apiculata with a value of 199.99%. The highest sapling level of INP was Rhizopora mucronata 171.70%, Station II Rhizopora mucronata 205.85%, Station III Rhizopora apiculata 164.57%. Seedling rate of Rhizopora mucronata in station I was 233.33%, station II Rhizopora mucronata 134.72%, station III Rhizopora apiculata 80.28%. The greatest aboveground biomass is found in station II with 325,848 tons / ha, the highest carbon stock is found in station III with 325,296 tons / ha and the highest of carbon absorptions potential is found in station III with 1,193.80 ppm. Abstract

Flavonoids are one of the compounds contained in tomatoes and act as antioxidants. Its production can be increased using callus culture. Factors that influence it is sucrose in media culture. Sucrose can be used as a carbon source and have the ability to increase the production of secondary metabolites. The aim of this research was to examine the effect of sucrose production which can increase the flavonoids from tomato plants. The explants used in the study were cotyledons from the aseptic germinated of the Permata F1 tomato variety. The method used was callus induction in MS media. Pieces of cotyledons from sprouts aged 7 DAP were grown in MS medium with the addition of 1 mg/L NAA and 1 mg/L BAP hormone and sucrose according to treatment for 49 days. The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor, namely 3 treatments of sucrose concentration : 20 g/L, 30 g/L, and 40 g/L with 6 replications. Qualitative and quantitative analyzes of flavonoid content were performed using a UV-vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the concentration of sucrose had an effect on increasing the content and production of flavonoids in callus tomatoes. The addition of sucrose in MS media resulted in a compact callus texture and the fastest callus initiation time was reached at a concentration of 40 g/L. Sucrose concentration from 20-40 g/L increased the production of flavonoids. Sucrose concentration of 40 g/L is the best treatment to increase the growth and production of tomato callus in vitro. Abstract

Leucocytozoon and Plasmodium are blood parasitic protozoa that can be found in poultry blood including ducks. These protozoa can cause Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis in poultry. Spread of the disease through different biological vectors. Similium sp. and Culicoides arakawae as vectors of Leucocytozoonosis and vectors of Plasmodiosis are Culex sp., Culiseta sp., and Aedes sp. This study aims to determine the prevalence of Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis in ducks that are maintained on a household scale. Ducks are taken from four locations (breeders on a household scale) in Besan Village. In each location, 5 ducks were taken so that the total number of ducks used was 20. This research used purposive sampling method. Samples of duck blood were made as blood smear preparations and stained with 10% Giemsa stain solution then observed under a microscope. The parameters observed were the percentage of blood samples infected with Leucocytozoon and Plasmodium and hematological parameters (total leukocyte count, total erythrocyte count, hemoglobin level, and PCV value). The results showed that Leucocytozoon and Plasmodium were not found in duck blood cells. The prevalence of Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis in ducks was 0%. The average value of duck blood profile through One Way Anova statistical analysis showed no significant difference between ducks from each sampling location (p> 0.05) and the value of duck blood profile for all samples was within the normal range.

Abstract

Research on butterflies as ecotour attractions in Lebih tourist resort, Gianyar was conducted in 2019. Objectives of this research was to find out species of butterflies that was found in that resort as well as to find out its potentials ecotour attractions. Samples of butterflies were collected through exploration of research sites, while other data were collected through interview. Butterflies sampled on site were diidentified and then recorded. Butterflies potentials as ecotour attractions were analized based on tourists’s perception. The location where butterflies have been used as ecotour attractions, as well as how to set up a package butterfly based ecotour would be reported. This research showed that there were 30 species of butterflies that have been identified in Lebih tourist resort. Based on observation and interview conducted it could be concluded that there has been butterfly based ecotourism as well as butterfly based ecotourism have been available on the research site. In addition, Lebih tourist resort has had a potential to develop butterly based ecotourism. This can can be indicated by the diversity of butterlies on the site, ie. 30 species, that can be used as ecotour attractions. The potential can be supported by the existence of other attractions including cultural attractions and man made attractions. From the perspective of accessibility, Lebih tourist resort was relatively easy to access, especially by using on line transport facilities. The existence of tourist facilities in Lebih tourist resort has increased. Support for the development of Lebih tourist resort has been provided by the government. After appointment of nine villages as well as some other adjacent villages as a tourist resort, the local government as well as other parties has built tourist facilities as well as hosted tourism events in this resort. Abstract

Teh Rosella merupakan bahan yang dipakai dalam pembuatan lulur karena kandungan antioksidannya baik bagi kulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan vitamin C, aktivitas antioksidan dan organoleptik lulur yang dibuat dari teh Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) dengan variasi konsentrasi beras. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Analitik Fakultas Teknologi Pertanian dan Laboratorium Mekanik Tanah Fakultas Teknik Universitas Udayana mulai Mei-Agustus 2018. Metode penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 7 kelompok perlakuan. Parameter yang diamati adalah kandungan vitamin C, aktivitas antioksidan dan organoleptik meliputi tekstur, warna, aroma dan kesan lulur Rosella. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kandungan vitamin C dan aktivitas antioksidan tertinggi pada teh rosella dari merek Red Tea Rossela. Hasil penelitian terhadap kandungan vitamin C dan antioksidan tertinggi terdapat pada lulur rosella dengan persentase tepung beras putih 10% dan tepung beras merah 80%. Perbedaan perlakuan lulur berpengaruh nyata terhadap penilaian probandus dilihat dari tekstur, warna dan aroma, sedangkan perbedaan perlakuan lulur tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap penilaian probandus dilihat dari kesan.
