Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze students’ scientific generic skill using Jigsaw modified by Q Card on senses system concept. The research was conducted in three meetings. The sample is first semester students who learned about Basic Concept of Biology for primary teacher class A, B, C and D. Descriptive analysis method with non-test data collecting technique is used in this research. Based on the research result and discussion gained from observation sheet and test item, it can be concluded that students have scientific generic skill from the lowest to the highest respectively as follow; building concept (61.025) sufficient category, logical inference (64.175) sufficient category, cause and effect (65.175) sufficient category, indirect observation (71.65) good category, symbolic language (77.475) good category and the highest is mathematic modeling (77.75) good category. Positive response is showed by some of the students on teaching learning process using Jigsaw modified by Q Card. The lowest response is 74% on the category of exercising.

Abstract

This research is a quantitative study of disasters making descriptions, pictures or paintings systematically, factually and accurately regarding the facts, characteristics and relationships between the phenomena being studied. The purpose of this study was to determine the understanding ability of students in the bioexperimental subject. Based on the research that has been done it can show that the free inquiry learning model (Free Inqury) is suitable to be applied to the Bioexperimental subject. The final score of students in the bio-experimental courses that completed in the 2016/2017 academic year was 44% and in the experimental class the completeness score was 90%. With the meaning that student understanding increases with the application of the free inquiry learning model.

Abstract

21st century learning requires students to have 3 important abilities including critical thinking skills, creative thinking and problem solving. This ability is known as higher order thinking skills or HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill). This ability is used to face the challenges of the 21st century. Critical and creative thinking is needed in solving problems. This is due to the rapid development of science and technology so that it becomes new challenges and problems that students must face in 21st century learning. Based on Indonesia's ranking in PISA and TIMSS, it is necessary to develop HOTS questions to improve students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the development of HOTS questions to improve students' critical thinking skills. This research is a type of meta-analysis research. Sources of data come from national journals for the last three years. The results showed that the development of HOTS questions was able to improve students' critical thinking skills. But not only that, it can also improve students' higher order thinking skills. This is in accordance with the findings of research which shows that the development of HOTS questions to improve students' critical thinking skills can be done at all levels, both SD, SMP and SMA with an average effect size of 1.33; 1.54; and 1.26. with the effect size category at the SMA level higher than SMP and SD. Meanwhile, analyzing HOTS questions to improve critical thinking skills obtained three abilities, namely the ability to think critically, think creatively and solve problems with consecutive categories, namely 2.22; 2.03; and 2,1. This shows that the HOTS Question is able to improve the critical thinking skills of students from various levels, both SD, SMP and SMA. However, this is very suitable for use at the high school level.

Abstract

The learning model with an approach that can be used to achieve cognitive success is by using the PBL model with the STEM approach. This study aims to determine the effect of the PBL model with the STEM approach on the cognitive competence of students in the digestive system material for class XI in SMA / MA. This research was conducted from January to February 2021. The method in this study was a real-time experiment or pre-experimental one group pre-test - post-test design. Pre - experimental one group pre-test - post-test design. The population in this study were students of class XI. The sample in the study consisted of 18 students who were an experimental class taken using test techniques. The test technique here is an objective test, namely multiple choice and essays or questions about this technique will be carried out before and after the research (pretest and posttest). The data in this study were obtained from a number of quantitative data, namely the cognitive aspects obtained from the pre-test and post-test scores. After the data has been obtained, the next step is to analyze the data. This can be seen from the results of the t-test used to calculate the hypothesis and test the level of effectiveness. The results showed that the PBL model with the STEM approach showed differences in the cognitive competences of students. This can be proven by the 2 tailed significance value is 0.000, which is less than 0.05, which means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Data analysis techniques can be proven by the results of the N-gain test value. This can be proven by the difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental class, namely 46.5 - 65.3 = 33.67%. Conclusion. That the PBL learning model with the STEM approach has an effect on the results of students' cognitive competencies is acceptable. This can be proven by the normality, homogeneity, t-test and N-gain test. The effect of the application of PBL model learning with the STEM approach is a moderate criterion.

Abstract

Education is one of the important pillars in a country. Efforts to improve the quality of education must begin with improving the quality of teachers. This study aims to analyze the importance of teacher quality and welfare to promote biology learning in Indonesia. This research is conducted online by analyzing scientific journals and other articles to find the intended concept. The research was conducted qualitatively by collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are the quality and welfare of teachers must be directly proportional. Improving the quality and welfare of teachers, facilitating all educational programs and providing supervision, evaluation and follow-up can have a major impact in the world of education. A well-qualified teacher can develop learning that supports students to face the challenges of the times. Teachers need to guarantee the quality of life and quality of work, so as to improve their quality to improve the quality of state education.

Abstract

Students have different levels of difficulty in understanding Natural Science material. This study aims to determine the independence of students in minimizing learning difficulties experienced by students themselves. The research method using quantitative descriptive type was carried out by survey method via google form online. The technique of collecting data through a questionnaire instrument. From filling in the google form, respondents collected 13 students at the SMP / MTs level from various schools and different regions (Kudus and Jepara). This research was conducted in the even semester of 2020/2021. The results showed that learning media that were attractive in learning science, increased student learning independence and increased student interest in learning could minimize the difficulty of learning science concepts. Another result shows that students who have high interest in learning are still low. Learning independence that is not optimal and student interest in learning is still low causing difficulties in learning Natural Sciences. Learning independence is a predictor of learning outcomes.

Abstract

Students at SMPN 27 Padang tend to be passive when the learning process takes place which results in low learning outcomes of students in natural science subjects. This study aims to determine the effect of giving home assignments in the form of Mind Map prior to the application of the Giving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) active learning model on science learning competencies in the aspects of knowledge and attitudes of students in class VIII of SMP Negeri 27 Padang. This research is a Quasi-Experimental study and uses the Control Group Posttest Only Design. The study population was all students of Class VIII SMP Negeri 27 Padang. The technique used is Purposive Sampling. The control class uses the Direct Intruction learning model and the experimental class uses the active learning model Giving Question and Getting Answer by giving home assignments in the form of a Mind Map. The research instrument used was a test of learning outcomes and attitude assessment in the form of an observation sheet. T test results are known that the knowledge competency of tcount>ttable (4.99>1.67), and the results of the t test of competency attitude known tcount>ttable (6.36>1.67). This shows that the hypothesis is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the assignment of homework in the form of Mind Map prior to the application of the active learning model Giving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) significantly influences the science learning competence in the aspects of knowledge and attitudes of students.

Abstract

This study aims to find out more about the efforts to improve students' information literacy in online learning of the covid-19 effect of biology. The type of research used in this paper is a literature review study. This research was carried out by analyzing research related to how to increase information literacy in online learning the effects of Covid-19 describing, evaluating and clarifying the research and then drawing conclusions. The result of this research is that information literacy is a very important skill for students. At this time of online learning, students who have good information literacy skills will have no difficulty in learning. However, there are problems with students that it is difficult to study at home. Even though the average high school student is able to use existing technology. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve student information literacy. The conclusion in this study, based on the results of the author's analysis, there are three ways to improve students' information literacy, the methods are 1) doing biology online learning effectively to increase student interest in learning and foster student curiosity, 2) the teacher provides many learning resources. as reading material in learning and increasing student insight, and 3) parents and teachers must work together in monitoring, facilitating, and motivating students to develop their learning patterns, so that learning takes place effectively and can improve student’s information literacy.

Abstract

The present research aimed to determine the impact of inquiry-based learning (IBL) models towards students' thinking levels. The sample used in this research was 66 students. Measurement student level of thinking used the SOLO taxonomy rubric consisting of five levels: pre-structural (first level), uni-structural (second level), multi-structural (third level), relational (fourth level), and extended abstract (fifth level). Data analyzed was using the Mann Whitney. The result of our research showed that P < 0.05. It can be concluded that there is an impact of IBL on the student's level of thinking. The research recommendation is improving students' thinking levels; teachers can use IBL as innovative learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa terhadap strategi “Students as Researchers” dalam melatihkan kemampuan self regulation mahasiswa. Penelitian ini memberikan alternatif strategi perkuliahan yang dapat dilakukan untuk melatihkan kemampuan self regulation mahasiswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif . Populasi pada penelitian ini yaitu seluruh mahasiswa pendidikan Biologi Universitas Riau. Sampel pada penelitian ini yaitu mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi semester 3 (tiga) kelas A yang mengambil matakuliah Media Pembelajaran Tahun Ajaran 2020/2021 yang mengikuti perkuliahan dengan strategi “Students as Researchers”. Instrumen pada penelitian berupa angket respons mahasiswa dan lembar wawancara. Pertanyaan pada angket menekankan pada jabaran indikator pencapaian kemampuan self regulation mahasiswa melalui strategi perkuliahan “Students as Researchers”. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis kualitatif yang terdiri atas pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Data dari angket dianalisis berdasarkan persentase respons mahasiswa terhadap ketercapaian indikator self regulation. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memberikan respons positif terhadap strategi perkuliahan “Students as Reserchers” dalam melatihkan kemampuan self regulation mahasisswa sebesar 96,4% berada pada kategori sangat baik, dengan rincian indikator menyusun rencana secara efektif, menyadari dan menggunakan sumber-sumber informasi yang diperlukan, dan sensitif terhadap umpan balik sebesar 100%, indikator mengevaluasi keefektifan tindakan sebesar 94,7%, dan indikator menyadari pemikirannya sendiri sebesar 90,4%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa secara keseluruhan mahasiswa memberikan respons positif terhadap strategi perkuliahan “Students as Researchers” dalam melatih kemampuan self regulation mahasiswa.
