Abstract

Study to determine the potential of tempe flour in improving bone quality of ovariectomized rats (ovx)based on calcium (Ca) and phosphorus(P) levels in the plasma and bones; osteoblast and osteoclastprofiles have been conducted for 4 months. A total of 20 female Sprague Dawley albino rats, age of 3months and average body weight of 200 g were used in this study. The rats were divided into 4 groups,i.e.normal rats + diets (K0); normal rats +tempe flour (K1); ovx + diets (OV0); and ovx + tempe flour (OV1),respectively. The Ca and P levels in plasma and bones were analyzed using Atomic AbsorptionSpectrophotometer (AAS) and spectrophotometric methods. In addition, the profiles of osteoblast andosteoclast were also observed. The results showed that Ca and P levels in plasma and bones of normal ratswere 11.08 mg/dL and 7.06 mg/dL; 30.88 mg/dL and 18.63 mg/dL, respectively. The highest Ca and P levelsin both plasma and bones were observed in normal rats which were given tempe flour (K1), 11.25 mg/dLand 7.42 mg/dL; and 31.60 mg/dL and 19.78 mg/dL, respectively. Similarly, Ca and P levels in plasma andbones of ovxwhich were given tempe flour were slightly higher (10.91 mg/dL and 6.96 mg/dL; and 29.89 mg/dL and 17.87 mg/dL) compared to ovx without tempe flour diets (9.38 mg/dL and 6.46mg/dL; and 26.58 mg/dL and 16.75 mg/dL). The numbers of osteblast was found slightly higher both in normal rats and ovxwhich were given tempe flour; whereas slightly decreased of osteoclast was observed only in ovx which weregiven tempe flour. The administration of tempe flour in ovx diets could improved bone quality as indicatedby the Ca and P levels in plasma and bones and decreased numbers of osteoclast.

Abstract

Twenty growing cross breed etawah buck had been treated with clenbuterol every two days. Threelevels of clenbuterol, 5, 10 and 20 ìg/kg BW were injected intramuscularly from the thigh side every twodays. The animals were slaughtered and cut into five pieces, thorax, fore limb, loin, flank and hind limb.The components of muscle and fat for each component were separated for fat, muscle and bones analysis.The purpose of the experiment was to investigate the claim that clenbuterol has an effect on carcassquality. It is expected that clenbuterol will affect fat mobilization through the mechanism of stimulusrespond . In this experiment clenbuterol does not affect fresh carcass weight and carcasss empty bodyweight. However clenbuterol has the effect on muscle carcass thigh, thorax and flank, indicating proteinformation in the carcass. Further studies showed that clenbuterol affected the reduction of subcutanousfat in thigh and flank. Intermuscular fat of the thorax was also affected by clenbuterol. Furthermoreclenbuterol reduced the bones weight. It can be concluded that clenbuterol works at specific area of thebody, mobilizing the fat and bones follow with protein synthesis.

Abstract

The consumer assurance to get safe, hygienic, whole, and halal food is an important concern. Analysisof chemical residue is one of some ways  to examine food safety. The objective of this research was to detectdeltamethrin residue in broiler liver sold in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The isocratic HPLC method was usedin this research, using Shimadzu 6.1, 80% of Acetonitrile in Aquabides as mobile phase, with 1ml/minutesof flow rate. C-18 was used as column and the wavelength of UV-Vis detector was 270 nm. The result of theresearch was get from HPLC’s analyses. Deltamethrin’s peak area would be presented in retention time 8-12minutes with specific profile of curve. The result of the research showed that deltamethrin was positivelydetected in 13 broiler livers. It’s concluded that broiler livers that sold in Yogyakarta are detected to containdeltamethrin-contaminated.

Abstract

A study to evaluate the serum macrominerals status in clinically healthy Ettawa crossbred goatshave been carried out in order to obtain the baseline data for monitoring health condition. A total of 60Ettawa crossbred goats were used in the study. The demographic characteristics of the animals groupwere: (i) young male and female goats (5-8 months); (ii) adult male and female goats (1.5 – 4 years); (iii)pregnant, and (iv) lactating animals. The serum macrominerals concentrations were within the referencestatus of other small ruminant species. The mean calcium (Ca), potassium (K), and chloride (Cl)concentrations were not significantly difference (P>0.05) between the animals groups. The Na concentrationof adult female goats was 139.33 ± 1.94mmol/L and was significantly lower compared to the animals inthe other groups (P<0.05). The inorganic phosphor (Pi) concentrations in pregnant and lactating animalswere significantly lower (P<0.05) compared to that in young, adult, male and female goats. The macromineralsconcentration in serum was influence by the physiological status of the animals.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to study the correlation between the decreased of body weight asand the increase of egg production, after the forced molting stress program. As many as 180medium type chickens, strain Dekalb Warren, aged 84 weeks old were used. The desain applied2x2x2 factorial and used complete randomized design in 5 times replications each of whichconsisted 4 chickens. The first factors were water supply and without water supply. The secondfactor was the duration of no feeding for 10 and 5 days. The third factor was the amount of feedgiven during recovery period, that was 50% and 25% of the normal consumption. The total of thetreatment of forced molting program applied were 9 treatments. The data obtained were analysedusing analysis of variance (anova), orthogonal comparison test and regression analysis. Theperformance and the mortality were also observed. The result showed that the treatment couldincreased egg production significantly and repaired layer performance with low mortality. It istherefore concluded that the increase of the egg production had no correlation with the decreaseof body weight in forced molting program.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of different methods of saving the storage by using a waterjacket and a free water jacket to quality semen Limousin cattle after being stored at a temperature of 5°C.Semen used the criteria motility e” + + collected two times a week. Semen evaluated macroscopically andmicroscopically and diluted in the ratio 1: 1 using the Cauda Epididymal Plasma (CEP-2) diluent added10% egg yolk. Stored in the refrigerator temperature 5°C and semen quality  was observed immediatelyafter dilution, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. The results showed that themethod of free storage waterjacket better in maintaining the percentage of motility, viability, abnormalityand plasma membrane intact spermatozoa

Abstract

Fresh water and marine fish horticulture in Bali is often harmed by the outbreak of diseases such asthose caused by Aeromonas sp (aeromonad disease).Aims ofstudy were 1) to find out the primary agent ofthe aeomonad disease in the fresh water aquaculture in Bali based on conventional and molecularidentification, 2) to find out the genetic variability of Aeromonas species, 3) to determine the effectiveantibiotic against the agent. Samples of fishes were collected from 5 different locations of fresh wateraquaculture that had high number of morbidity and mortality. Many different fishes which showed clinicalsign such as skin lesion and exophthalmus were collected.Aeromonas hydrophila and A. salmonicida wereisolated and identified from fishes, they were then identified molecularly with DNA extraction, DNAamplification in 16S rRNA gene, purification and sequencing. Sequences of both Aeromonas species fromdifferent location were analysed to create the phylogenetic tree with Maximum Parsimony and NeighborJoining method. Sensitivity of 5 antibiotics to both species of Aeromonas were done to determine the bestantibiotic against the disease. Aeromonad disease were found only in 3 regions in Bali. As many as 10isolates of A.salmonicida and 11 isolates of A.hydrophila were examined. The histopathological examinationshowed dermatitis, epicarditis, retinitis, liver and kidney congestion in fish.There were two clusters ofA.salmonicida, subspecies smithiaand subspecies achromogenes.Aeromomas hydrophyla had a close relationwith A. veronii.Aeromonas salmonicida subspecies salmonicida has not been found in Bali. Enrofloxacineand gentamycin was the best antibiotic for treating the Aeromonad disease which were more effective ascompared to3 other antibiot ics (Ampicillin, Doxycycline, and Eritromycin).

Abstract

The aims of this research was to determine the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on the healing of incision wounds in rat skin (Rattus norvegicus) that infected with MRSA bacteria by evaluating and give a score (0 – 4) at wound healing factors such as epithelialization, angiogenesis, inflammatory cells, fibroblast cells and collagen density. This study used 25 white rats divided randomly into 5 groups with 5 replications, namely P0 = MRSA infection wound + Povidone Iodine, P1 = MRSA infection wound + Silver Sulfadiazine, P2 = MRSA infection wound + 5-minute PDT irradiation, P3 = MRSA infection wound + 10- minute PDT irradiation and P4 = MRSA infection wound + 15-minute PDT irradiation. Histopathological observations and scoring showed epithelialization and collagen density in groups P2, P3 and P4 increased significantly compared to groups P0 and P1 (p<0.05). The histopathological observations and scoring of angiogenesis, inflammatory cells, fibroblast cells of P0 and P1 groups had a higher score than the treatment group with photodynamic therapy P2, P3 and P4 (p<0.05). This condition showed that in the P0 and P1 groups are still in the inflammatory phase, while in the P2, P3 and P4 groups have entered the remodeling phase which is characterized by high epithelialization scores and collagen density. Giving photodynamic therapy to wounds infected with MRSA can accelerate the wound healing process.

Abstract

Nephrolithiasis is one of urologic disease due to crystallization urine in urinary system. Traditionally,avocado leaves has long been used for the treatment of nephrolithiasis because flavonoid in this plant canfacilitate the watering of crushing stone in the urinary tract. The aims of this study was to determine theeffect of aethyl acetate fraction of avocado leaves on ureum and creatinine level. Twenty white male rats(Sprague dawley, weight 200-300g) were divided into four groups. Normal control group (A) was givenaquadest ad libitum. Negative control group (B) and treatments group (C and D) were given ethyleneglycol 0.75% and ammonium chloride 2% to induce the formation of calcium oxalate crystal. Group C andD were given aethyl acetate fraction with different levels (100mg/kg bb and 300mg/kg bb for fourteen days).Blood samples were taken before and after treatment. The result showed that aethyl acetate fractioncould not decrease serum blood level of ureum and creatinine. Serum blood level ureum and creatinine ingroup D increased significantly compared to group A, B, C after fourteen days treatment. The used ofethylene glycol caused acute tubular necrosis. It therefore appears that ethyl acetate solvent was not ableto extract flavonoids to prevent renal dysfunction.
