Abstract

Understanding of cube and cuboid concepts is one of the essential goals of solid geometry learning. Most studies of students’ understanding of these concepts have posited a gap between the students’ surface area and volume conceptions of its and students’ understanding. The study aims to describe the students’ mental constructions in APOS (Action, Process, Object, and Schema) theory framework. This study used analysis of students as subject to three junior high school students who have differences in mathematical abilities with a qualitative approach. Data were collected by the task sheet and interview. The result of this study evidences that subject who has high mathematical ability could solve problems about cube and cuboid concepts correctly in the action stage. In the process and object stage, subject could provide detailed explanations of how steps to assess the surface area and volume of cube and cuboid. She compared two shapes with different sizes of cube and cuboid. In the schema stage, she made systematic understanding related to the concepts of surface area and volume of cube and cuboid. The subject who has medium mathematical ability explained her mental construction in action and process stage well, despite the error in the process stage. Next stage, she had compared two different shapes of cube and cuboid to found their ratio. The last stage, she had not completed her explanation. The subject has low mathematical ability could solve the problems about cube and cuboid concepts. At the process, object, and schema stage, she had not completed its indicators to show cube and cuboid concepts.

Abstract

This research explained the description of the beliefs of prospective teacher who had an adversity quotient type climber and the relationship between beliefs and mathematics teaching practices in the classroom. One student of climber prospective teacher who had taken an internship course and had good communication skill was willing to become a research subject. Semi-structured interview and observation of learning in class were used to obtain the research data. The data that had been obtained were coded, reduced, presented, triangulated to obtain credible data, and then conclusions were drawn. The results show that the climber math prospective teacher believes that mathematics is as something dynamic, namely the space of creation, human invention that develops continuously. Teaching mathematics is student-centered through problem providing or problem solving, and learning is as a construction of student’s active understanding to build knowledge. A more detailed explanation of beliefs description and the relationship with the mathematics teaching practice is described in this research.

Abstract

The success of a learning process depends on the teacher’s mastery of materials, strategies, and media. Teachers need to possess high creativity to maintain their students’ interest and motivation in learning. The integration of effective learning models and appropriate media, such as using plastic waste as realia, can be one of the alternatives to improve the quality of learning. This study also aimed to examine students' awareness of environmental issues. The quantitative and qualitative data of the study were collected simultaneously to answer the research problems. Interviews were conducted during the implementation of the learning process and quizzes. A pre-experimental one-shot case study design was employed to gather the quantitative data which were then analyzed descriptively. The results of the current study showed that the students' intuitive thinking started to develop in phase 3, where they were asked to identify the type of plastic glass they were holding. Phase 4 that allowed the students to separate parts constructing the glass, determine the name of each part, and set a point of view or the purpose underlying the material presented was the phase where the students performed an analytical thinking process. In phase 5, the students were allowed to solve a mathematical problem using analytical thinking. The interaction between students' intuitive and analytical thinking shown in the identification and labeling of each type of three-dimensional form will be discussed in this article

Abstract

Taxonomy solo is a classification of real responses from students. This research aims to identify the effect of students' responses based on a solo taxonomy in mathematics learning on learning activity and learning outcomes. This research is a mixed-method with an explanatory sequential design. The data were collected using observation instruments, questionnaires, interviews, and tests. The data was analyzed inferentially and narratively. Based on the results, students who are at the extended abstract response level are classified as very active and having very high learning outcomes, students who are at the relational response level are identified as active and having high learning outcomes, students who are at the multi-structural response level are identified as active and having moderate learning outcomes, students who are at the Uni-structural response level are identified as active and having moderate learning outcomes, and students who are at the pre-structural response level are identified as less active and having low learning outcomes. Thus, it can be interpreted that students' responses based on solo taxonomy in mathematics learning affect activeness and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Millennials currently prefer web-assisted interactive media as a learning resource rather than reading books. To understand the contents of the book, students need high literacy skills. Unlike the web-assisted interactive media, the explanations are accompanied by pictures and simulations that can help students to understand the learning material. The developed web-assisted interactive learning media had been adjusted to the 2013 curriculum. This research aimed to develop a valid, effective, and practical interactive web-assisted learning media. The research development model used was the 4D model which consisted of Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination stages. The instrument used in this study was a validation sheet, a questionnaire to measure the practicality, and a creative-thinking test to measure the effectiveness. The results of validation showed that the developed learning media obtained an average score of 86.17% and had met the validity criteria with excellent quality. The questionnaire obtained a score of 88.39% which indicated that the developed learning media was effective. The developed web-assisted interactive learning media met the effectiveness criteria with the obtained average score of 80% based on four indicators, namely fluency, flexibility, authenticity, and detail. It can be concluded that the web-assisted interactive learning media is suitable to be used as a learning resource.

Abstract

Based on Law Number 24 of 2011, a state program was established to provide social protection and welfare for everyone, one of which is health insurance by the Social Insurance Administration Organization (BPJS). In its implementation, several important evaluations are needed. One that requires accurate evaluation is claim frequency and claim severity in determining premiums and reserved funds. This thesis provides one form of a method for selecting the distribution of claim frequency and claim severity. The data used in this study was taken from BPJS Health in the City of Tangerang in 2017. The distribution of opportunities chosen had been adjusted to the participant's claim data and parameter estimated using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation method. The chi-square test was used to check the goodness of fit for claim frequency distributions whereas the Anderson Darling tests were applied to claim severity distributions. The results of the chi-square test and the Anderson-Darling test showed that the model that matched the claim frequency distribution was the Z12M–NBGE distribution while the model that matched the claim severity was lognormal. The Z12M–NBGE distribution and the lognormal formed the aggregate loss distribution using the Monte Carlo method. Furthermore, the simulation results were obtained to the measurement of the Value in Risk (VaR) and Shortfall Expectations (ES). So, the Monte Carlo method is simple to implement the aggregate loss distributions and can easily handle various risks with dependency.
