Abstract

Soil compaction plays a crucial role in determining the stability of structures, particularly in earthquake-prone regions. Inadequate compaction can lead to soil liquefaction and settlement, increasing the risk of structural failure during seismic events. Understanding the impact of different soil compaction methods is essential for enhancing building resilience. This study aims to evaluate the influence of various soil compaction techniques on the stability of buildings in earthquake-prone areas. It seeks to identify the most effective methods that can improve soil properties and overall structural integrity. A comparative analysis was conducted using laboratory experiments and field tests. Different compaction methods, including static, dynamic, and vibratory compaction, were applied to soil samples. The study measured parameters such as soil density, moisture content, and shear strength to assess the effects of each method on soil stability. The findings reveal that dynamic compaction significantly improves soil density and shear strength compared to static and vibratory methods. Structures built on dynamically compacted soil exhibited greater resilience to seismic forces, demonstrating lower risks of liquefaction and settlement during earthquakes. The research concludes that the choice of soil compaction method is vital for ensuring the stability of buildings in earthquake-prone regions. Dynamic compaction emerges as the most effective technique, providing enhanced soil properties that contribute to structural resilience. Future studies should explore the long-term effects of compaction methods and their implications for building codes and practices in seismic areas.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the economic and environmental determinants of coconut farmers’ income in Simeulue Regency by analysing land area, selling price, labour, and damaged trees as independent variables, with farmers’ income as the dependent variable. This study employs a quantitative method based on multiple linear regression analysis of primary data collected through questionnaires and interviews with 97 coconut farmers selected using the Slovin formula, supplemented by secondary data from relevant institutions. The results indicate that all variables simultaneously influence farmers’ income; however, when analysed individually, land area and labour have a positive and significant effect, the selling price shows a positive effect, and damaged trees have a negative but non-significant impact on income levels. These findings imply that owning larger landholdings and utilising labour efficiently can help increase farmers’ income, whereas pest-damaged trees remain a major challenge for boosting productivity. Therefore, efforts such as improving land management, optimising labour use, maintaining price stability, and implementing sustainable pest control are crucial for improving the welfare of coconut farmers in Simeulue Regency.

Abstract

Background. The increasing complexity of student needs in the digital age requires school counselors to adopt innovative approaches that move beyond traditional problem-solving frameworks. Design Thinking (DT), originally applied in business and technology, offers a human-centered and iterative process that emphasizes empathy, creativity, and collaboration, making it highly relevant for modern counseling practices. Purpose. This study aimed to develop and examine a student-centered counseling model based on Design Thinking. Specifically, it sought to investigate how DT principles—empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test—can be systematically integrated into school counseling to enhance students’ problem-solving skills, emotional resilience, and engagement in a digital learning environment. Method. A qualitative design-based research approach was employed, involving 45 school counselors and 120 high school students across three urban schools. Data were collected through focus group discussions, reflective journals, and digital platform interactions, and were analyzed thematically to construct the proposed model. Results. The findings demonstrate that the integration of Design Thinking in counseling promotes higher student engagement, encourages collaborative exploration of solutions, and improves adaptability in addressing personal, academic, and socio-emotional challenges. Counselors reported that the DT model helped them better understand student perspectives, while students valued the iterative process that allowed them to test and refine their solutions. Conclusion. This study highlights the potential of Design Thinking as a transformative model for school counseling in the digital age. By shifting from counselor-centered to student-centered practices, DT provides a structured yet flexible framework that empowers students to become active participants in resolving their own problems, thus fostering autonomy and lifelong problem-solving skills.

Abstract

The increasing availability and complexity of big data have revolutionized decision-making in various sectors, including corporate finance. In the context of ASEAN capital markets, companies are facing pressure to adopt data-driven strategies to enhance their financial decision-making processes. Big data analytics offers the potential to improve the accuracy of predictions, optimize investment strategies, and manage risks more effectively. This study aims to explore the impact of big data analytics on corporate financial decision-making in ASEAN capital markets, focusing on how organizations utilize data-driven insights to enhance decision-making efficiency and profitability. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of financial data from publicly listed companies in ASEAN with qualitative interviews from financial executives. The results indicate a positive relationship between big data analytics adoption and improved financial decision-making, particularly in areas of market forecasting, risk management, and asset allocation. Companies that have integrated big data analytics into their financial strategies report better performance in terms of profitability and shareholder value. The study concludes that big data analytics can significantly enhance corporate financial decision-making in ASEAN markets, offering a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving global economy.

Abstract

One important way to protect intellectual property rights is to use patent law to encourage creativity and innovation. In Islamic economics, the application of patent law raises several issues. This is because there are fundamental differences between the principles of Shari'a and some elements of conventional patent law. Since Islamic economics emphasizes justice, public interest, and equitable distribution of wealth, patent law must reflect these values. This study aims to identify and analyze the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of patent law in Islamic economics. Specifically, this study aims to understand the concepts and principles of patent law from an Islamic economic perspective, identify the main problems faced in the implementation of patent law in Muslim countries, explore opportunities for developing a patent legal framework that is in accordance with sharia principles, and provide. This research was conducted using qualitative methods, using literature studies and document analysis. Data were obtained from various sources, such as scientific journals, books, laws, fatwas, and other documents. The results of the study indicate that patent law in Islamic economics must balance individual rights and societal benefits. Some of the main problems identified include lack of knowledge about the importance of patents, inconsistencies between some aspects of conventional patent law and sharia principles, and resistance to changes in current regulations. According to this study, patent law in Islamic economics faces many challenges and opportunities. By incorporating sharia principles into the patent legal system, innovation and technological progress that benefit society can be increased.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics has transformed the landscape of medical technology, offering unprecedented precision, efficiency, and personalization in patient care. The integration of AI-driven diagnostics and robotic-assisted surgery has improved clinical decision-making, minimized human errors, and enhanced surgical outcomes. This study aims to explore recent innovations in AI and robotics in the medical field, assess their effectiveness in improving treatment precision, and identify challenges in their widespread adoption. A systematic review methodology was employed, analyzing recent peer-reviewed articles, case studies, and reports from medical institutions and technology developers. The findings indicate that AI-powered diagnostic tools significantly enhance early disease detection, while robotic surgery enables minimally invasive procedures with improved accuracy and reduced recovery times. However, challenges such as ethical concerns, high implementation costs, and regulatory hurdles remain key barriers to full-scale adoption. This study concludes that AI and robotics will play an increasingly vital role in modern medicine, revolutionizing healthcare delivery. Further research should focus on optimizing AI algorithms, addressing ethical considerations, and developing cost-effective solutions to ensure broader accessibility and acceptance in medical practice.

Abstract

Rapid technological advancement and increasing complexity in healthcare systems require nursing education to evolve beyond traditional instructional approaches. Simulation-based learning supported by digital technologies has emerged as an innovative educational strategy that allows nursing students to develop clinical competence, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in safe and controlled environments. This study aims to examine the integration of simulation-based learning and technological tools in nursing education and evaluate their influence on students’ learning engagement, clinical confidence, and professional competence development. The research employs a mixed-method approach combining quantitative survey analysis with qualitative observations and interviews. Data were collected from nursing students and instructors participating in simulation-based learning sessions using high-fidelity mannequins and virtual simulation platforms. Statistical analysis was conducted to examine learning outcomes, while thematic analysis was used to interpret participants’ experiences. Findings indicate that simulation-based learning significantly improves students’ clinical confidence, engagement, and critical thinking abilities. High-fidelity simulations enhance clinical skill acquisition, while virtual simulations increase accessibility and flexibility in learning. Integration of simulation-based learning and technology represents a transformative strategy for modernizing nursing education and preparing future nurses for technologically advanced healthcare environments.

Abstract

Background. Social entrepreneurship has emerged as a strategic approach to address socio-economic disparities, especially in remote communities where access to economic opportunities and institutional support is limited. Purpose. This study aims to explore the development of social entrepreneurship in the remote region of Sidenreng Rappang, Indonesia, focusing on community-driven initiatives and their socio-economic impacts. Method. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving local entrepreneurs, community leaders, and development agencies. Results. The findings reveal that successful social entrepreneurship in the region is driven by strong local leadership, the utilization of indigenous knowledge, and adaptive strategies that align with the community’s cultural and ecological context. Challenges identified include limited access to capital, insufficient training in entrepreneurial skills, and weak institutional support. Conclusion. The study concludes that fostering social entrepreneurship in remote areas requires a hybrid support system involving education, mentorship, policy facilitation, and community empowerment. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on inclusive development by highlighting the contextual dynamics of entrepreneurial ecosystems in marginalized areas

Abstract

Indigenous knowledge systems represent vital cultural resources that sustain community identity, social cohesion, and adaptive capacity, yet they face increasing erosion under the pressures of modernization and standardized development practices. Community service programs have been widely implemented as instruments of social engagement, although their role in strengthening cultural resilience and revitalizing indigenous knowledge remains insufficiently examined. This study aims to analyze how community service programs contribute to cultural resilience through the revitalization of indigenous knowledge systems within local communities. The research employs a qualitative approach grounded in participatory and interpretive frameworks, combining in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of community service program documents. The findings reveal that community service programs foster cultural resilience when they are designed as participatory processes that recognize indigenous knowledge holders as central actors. Such programs facilitate intergenerational knowledge transmission, strengthen cultural pride, and support the adaptation of traditional practices to contemporary contexts. The results also indicate that cultural revitalization extends beyond preservation, functioning as an active process embedded in everyday social life. The study concludes that community service programs can serve as effective platforms for sustaining indigenous knowledge systems when they emphasize reciprocity, local agency, and cultural authority. These findings underscore the importance of culturally responsive community engagement in promoting sustainable and resilient development.

Abstract

Background. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has transformed language learning environments, particularly through the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) that facilitate interactive and personalized communication practice. Despite their growing adoption in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education, limited empirical attention has been devoted to understanding their influence on learners’ pragmatic competence and speaking anxiety. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate the impact of AI-powered dialogue systems based on LLMs on EFL learners’ ability to use language appropriately in social contexts and their confidence in oral communication. Method. A quantitative quasi-experimental design was employed involving 120 EFL learners divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pragmatic competence assessments, speaking anxiety scales, classroom observations, and structured interviews. Results. Findings indicate that students who engaged with AI-powered dialogue systems demonstrated significantly higher gains in pragmatic competence compared to those receiving conventional instruction. Results also reveal a substantial reduction in speaking anxiety, attributed to the non-judgmental, adaptive, and accessible nature of AI-mediated interactions. Conclusion. The study concludes that LLM-based dialogue platforms provide meaningful opportunities for authentic communication practice while fostering psychological comfort in language learning. Integrating AI-powered dialogue into EFL instruction can therefore enhance communicative effectiveness and support learners’ confidence in real-world language use.
