Abstract

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a global health issue affecting maternal and fetal health. Supplemental feeding (SF) is an intervention to address CED, but its success depends on maternal satisfaction with the program. This study analyzed the relationship between maternal satisfaction, weight gain, and reduction in CED incidence among pregnant women. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional design, 150 pregnant women from three health centers (Kutawaluyo, Kutamuki, Sukatani) were studied. Data were collected via questionnaires covering satisfaction with SF, weight gain, and nutritional status. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between satisfaction with SF and weight gain (p = 0.04). Logistic regression revealed that satisfied mothers were 2.8 times more likely to achieve healthy weight gain than dissatisfied ones (OR = 2.8, p < 0.01). Maternal satisfaction was crucial for SF success in preventing CED. Psychosocial factors like communication between mothers and health workers and family support significantly influenced satisfaction levels. The study underscores the importance of tailoring SF programs to pregnant women’s needs and strengthening health policies to reduce CED prevalence. Enhanced maternal satisfaction with SF can improve nutritional outcomes, benefiting both mothers and their unborn children.

Abstract

Pregnancy represents a profound physiological and psychological transition, often accompanied by significant discomfort, particularly during the third trimester. This discomfort, in turn, frequently triggers heightened levels of anxiety among expectant mothers. Pregnancy-related anxiety is a pervasive psychological condition, as highlighted by data from the WHO in 2015, which indicated that approximately 10% of pregnant women and 13% of postpartum women worldwide experience mental health disorders, including trauma and depression. Elevated anxiety during pregnancy poses considerable risks to both maternal and fetal health. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of self-hypnosis in reducing anxiety levels among third-trimester pregnant women. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was applied, involving 40 pregnant women experiencing anxiety. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed a significant reduction in anxiety levels following the self-hypnosis intervention (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). These findings highlight self-hypnosis as an effective, non-invasive, and accessible therapeutic approach for improving maternal psychological well-being, with potential benefits for both maternal and fetal health.

Abstract

Exercise is recommended for pregnant women, but many are sedentary. Studies on barriers to physical activity and exercise among pregnant women in West Java Province, Indonesia, are scarce. This study aims to identify and explore the underlying factors associated with physical activity during pregnancy in West Java, Indonesia. This study was conducted using a mixed-methods strategy that integrates quantitative and qualitative data. The study surveyed pregnant women in West Java, Indonesia, from January to March 2023. The study involved 18-year-olds, married women, and fluent Bahasa participants. It used a questionnaire to assess physical pregnancy activity intention, and analyzed data using descriptive, correlation withp<0.025 included in linear regression analysis. While in a qualitative study used semi-structure interview. A study of 200 pregnant women found that age negatively correlated with total metabolic equivalent of task (MET), while gestational age, education level, body mass index (BMI), and pregnancy complications positively impacted it. Pregnancy symptoms, limited time, and low social support were identified as themes impacting adhering to physical activity recommendations. The study reveals that factors such as age, gestational age, education level, BMI, and pregnancy complications significantly influence total MET in pregnant women, suggesting the need for personalized interventions.
