Abstract

This research aimed to identify EFL students’ perceptions of using Grammarly in writing their theses. Several problems were found in this research. Firstly, some EFL students utilized Grammarly for their thesis writing. Secondly, some EFL students did not understand how to use Grammarly. This research was descriptive qualitative research. The informants of this research were 7 students from English Education Department Class of 2023 who used Grammarly Premium in thesis writing. To gather data, this research used semi-structured interviews as the primary instrument. This research categorized the interview questions into three key indicators: interest, needs, and experience. The data were analyzed using an interactive model analysis, and each informant was interviewed individually. The findings revealed that students perceived positively when using Grammarly in writing their thesis. The interview data demonstrated that students expressed positive views in terms of interest, needs, and experience. EFL students considered Grammarly trusted resource in thesis writing. Their positive experiences highlighted the application’ effectiveness in enhancing overall writing quality for student.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on problems found by researchers in the learning process about speaking skills using the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) technique. Numbered Heads Together (NHT) is cooperative learning that focuses on influencing communication to help students face a problem by discussing their best ideas about the problem. NHT is a technique that teachers have implemented in the classroom to teach students speaking skills. Teachers must be clever in choosing learning methods or techniques that will be used in teaching because learning techniques are fundamental forms or concrete ways of implementing learning during the learning process to achieve learning goals. This research aims to determine how teachers implement the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) technique in teaching students' speaking skills, whether it is in accordance with theory or not. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research, which aims to describe how teachers implement the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) technique in teaching speaking skills. Then, the instrument used in this research was an observation sheet. The teacher teaches Present Continuous 'What are you doing?' and asks students to sit in small groups using NHT to discuss assignments given by the teacher. The results of this research show that teachers do not fully implement the steps of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) technique in teaching speaking skills because the teacher has limited the time. Abstract

Interest in reading is one of the factors that determines students’ reading comprehension. This study aims to reveal the influence of reading interest on the reading comprehension of students in the FTIK UIN Bukittinggi English Study Program for the 2022/2023 academic year. This study utilized a correlational descriptive design with a quantitative approach. Research data were collected using Likert scale questionnaires. The research data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results of the analysis showed that reading interest contributed to the reading comprehension of students in the English Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah UIN Bukittinggi by 10.6%. The better the students' reading interest, the better their comprehension in reading. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of fostering a strong reading culture among students to enhance their academic performance and overall understanding of the material. Encouraging reading interest can lead to significant improvements in reading comprehension skills, benefiting their academic success.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kinerja Pegawai Pada Unit Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (PTSP) Kanwil Kemenag Provinsi Sumatera Barat belum menunjukkan hasil yang memuaskan bagi masyarakat. Hal itu ditunjukkan dengan masih adanya keluhan masyarakat terkait pelayanan yang diinginkan oleh masayarakat, rendahnya kualitas pelayanan yang diberikan oleh petugas kepada masyarakat, belum maksumalnya bagi staff PTSP dalam memahami dan menyadari terhadap tugasnya masing-masing, sehingga berdampak pada hasil kinerja yang tidak sesuai dengan standar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan data dan informasi tentang kinerja pengawai pada unit Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (PTSP) Kantor Wilayah Kementerian Agama Propinsi Sumatera Barat, Penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian lapangan (field research) yang bersifat deskriptif, informan dalam penelitian ini adalah Kepala Kantor, Kepala Bagian TU, Kasubag, Staf Kanwil dan masyarakat dengan memakai teknik purposive sampling. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian terlihat bahwa Kinerja pegawai pada Unit Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (PTSP) Kantor Wilayah Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sumatera Barat dar segi kemampuan dan kepribadian para pegawai selaku pelayan publik selalu berusaha untuk bersikap baik dan berperilaku sopan serta berusaha untuk memberikan pelayanan kepada masyarakat dengan ikhlas serta sesuai dengan SOP dan aturan yang berlaku, kemudian juga motivasi dalam operasional pelayanan, para pegawai dituntut untuk semakin mempermudah masyarakat dalam mendapat pelayanan. Kendala yang dihadapi dalam kinerja pegawai pada unit Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (PTSP) Kantor Wilayah Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sumatera Barat adalah seringnya pejabat yang terkait dalam penandatanganan berkas tidak berada di tempat, SDM serta tenaga professional yang kurang, dan jaringan yang terdapat pada unit PTSP, sehingga mengakibatkan terhambatnya penyelenggaraan Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu yang professional di PTSP Kanwil Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sumatera Barat. Upaya-upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi kendala Kinerja Pegawai pada Unit Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (PTSP) Kantor Wilayah Kementerian Agama Provinsi Sumatera Barat yaitu pegawai berusaha untuk selalu meningkatkan kemampuan seperti belajar dari pengalaman dan saling bertukar informasi dengan rekan sejawat dan menggunakan jaringan yang ada.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara mendalam strategi hubungan masyarakat (HUMAS) dalam meningkatkan citra kualitas pelayanan rumah sakit kepada pasien, khususnya di Semen Padang Hospital (SPH). Citra rumah sakit merupakan salah satu indikator penting dalam membangun kepercayaan publik dan meningkatkan loyalitas pasien. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi lapangan, dan dokumentasi terhadap 22 informan dari berbagai latar belakang, termasuk manajemen, staf HUMAS, tenaga medis, dan pasien. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi HUMAS SPH meliputi komunikasi dua arah melalui media sosial, kolaborasi lintas divisi, kegiatan sosial dan edukasi, serta manajemen isu yang tanggap dan profesional. Strategi tersebut terbukti mampu meningkatkan citra positif SPH di mata masyarakat, memperkuat kepercayaan pasien, serta menekan dampak negatif dari keluhan atau isu pelayanan. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pentingnya penguatan kapasitas komunikasi strategis HUMAS serta evaluasi berkala untuk menyesuaikan strategi dengan dinamika sosial dan kebutuhan pasien yang terus berkembang.

Abstract

Permasalahan sampah rumah tangga masih menjadi isu lingkungan yang serius dan memerlukan keterlibatan aktif masyarakat dalam pengelolaannya. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran, pengetahuan, dan partisipasi masyarakat dalam penerapan konsep 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) melalui pengelolaan sampah berbasis rumah tangga di Nagari Sirukam, Kecamatan Payung Sekaki, Kabupaten Solok. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi tahap perencanaan, persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi yang dilakukan melalui musyawarah, edukasi, diskusi, serta praktik langsung pemilahan dan pengolahan sampah organik dan anorganik. Sasaran utama kegiatan adalah masyarakat, khususnya ibu rumah tangga dan pemuda, sebagai pelaku utama pengelolaan sampah di lingkungan keluarga. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan perubahan sikap masyarakat terhadap pentingnya pengelolaan sampah yang ramah lingkungan. Masyarakat mulai menerapkan pemilahan sampah, memanfaatkan kembali sampah yang masih bernilai guna, serta mendaur ulang sampah plastik sebagai upaya mendukung ekonomi hijau lokal. Selain itu, kegiatan ini menumbuhkan semangat gotong royong dan membuka peluang pengembangan ekonomi berbasis pengelolaan sampah. Dengan demikian, program ini berkontribusi positif dalam membangun kesadaran lingkungan dan menjadi langkah awal penerapan circular economy di tingkat lokal secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Mandiangin Koto Selayang merupakan salah satu dari tiga kecamatan yang berada di Kota Bukittinggi, di kecamatan ini ditemukan PEKKA miskin sebanyak 116 KK dan merupakan kecamatan yang laing banyak PEKKA miskin dibandingkan dengan dua kecamatan lainnya di Kota Bukittiggi. Sasaran dari pengabdian ini merupakan kelompok dari PEKKA miskin tersebut dengan melakukan program pemberdayaan untuk mengatasi masalah ekonomi yang dihadapinya. Pemberdayaan yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan ekonominya adalah dengan membentuk kelompok usaha mikro berbasis pasar. Dimana PEKKA di kelompokan berbdasarkan jenis-jenis usaha yang dilakukannya dan mendampinginya supaya bisa menguasai pasar untuk kepentingan kemajuan usaha-usaha ekonomi kelompok yang lakukan itu. Diantara jenis usaha kelompok mikro yang dilakukan adalah, membuat asesoris, makanan ringan dan usaha jualan harian. Diantara program pendampingan untuk kepentingan kemajuan usaha itu adalah telah dilakukan terhadap PEKKA ini dampingan komunkasi usaha, motivasi untuk berusaha, membantu informasi pemasaran. Hasil dari pendampingan menunjukkan bahwa, PEKKA mempunyai semenagat untuk berusaha, dan sangat membutuhkan modal dalam pengembangan usaha kelompok yang dilakukannya.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using Quizizz on the vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at SMPN 4 Padang Panjang. This study used a quantitative descriptive method with two classes (VII.1 and VII.2) as samples, consisting of 64 students. The used in this study consisted of vocabulary mastery test results. The research results indicated that Quizizz was effective for students' vocabulary mastery, with an overall score categorized as high/good at 88. Both classes showed an improvement of +0.1 before and after Quizizz implementation. Based on this increase in vocabulary mastery test scores (+0.1) and average post-test scores above 80, Quizizz had a positive impact on students' vocabulary mastery. Although before and after test vocabulary scores were categorized as low, they demonstrated score stability that students could maintain, along with a consistent improvement. It can be concluded that Quizizz is an effective learning medium that enhances students' activity, participation, and motivation in vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This study is a quantitative descriptive study aimed at describing the types of prepositional collocations found in 30 samples along with their frequency of occurrence. The sample for this study was taken by collecting 294 theses for alumni majoring in English and then 30 theses were taken randomly. The results showed that the type of collocation presented was grammatical collocation in prepositions. The grammatical types of prepositions are adjective total is 2658. The most frequent collocations are collocations with 238 (8.95%) The total collocation error in the preposition is 1,32%. Based on the research result, the researcher found that there are 3 types of collocation error in preposition. The first types are ommision, the second types are addition and the last types are missinformation, the researcher did not find the missordering types for collocation error in preposition.

Abstract

This research was due to some problems that was found in MTsN 3 Pariaman. Frist, most of the students did not response the teacher’s question. Second, most of the students were passive in the classroom. Third, the students’ did not answer the questions that require their critical thinking. This research aimed to find out the the type of question that asked by the teacher, the higher order thinking the teacher’s question, and the lower order thinking the teacher’s question. The researcher used qualitative research design. The key informants of this research are English teacher of eighth grade of MTsN 3 Pariaman. Mean while for the supporting informant, the researcher use snowball sampling.In this research, the researcher used 2 instruments which are observation and interview.The interview that was used was structured interview where the researcher prepares the question before conducting the interview. Based on the finding of the result, the researcher concluded that there are some types of questions that were asked by the teacher. First, question begin with “what”. The “what” questions that were asked was mostly LOTS question since the students did not need to give critical or high thinking answer to solve the questions that were asked. Second, convergent question or questions that only require “yes” or “no” answer which frequently place an emphasis on the recollection of previously taught material rather than requiring pupils to engage in higher-level thinking in order to come up with an answer. Third, questions that he already know the answer. This was used to checking students' knowledge and monitor classroom management. Last, referential questions or question that the teacher does not know the answers, and require long syntactically complicated answers. This question was to give students the opportunity to freely express their thoughts and generate output in the target language.
