Abstract

In response to environmental challenges and the critical imperative for sustainable progress, rural regions including agriculture practices are important in ecological robustness. It can be achieved through a synergistic relationship between rural development sustainability and the biological sciences. Concurrently, research in stewardship approaches are underway to amass data on robusta coffee, Coffea canephora, species. In collaboration with Lampung Disease Investigation Centre and local coffee farmers in Pesawaran, Lampung, and under DIPA BLU Universitas Lampung year 2024, initial ongoing work on coffee germ plasm data is done. Robusta coffee leaves were sampled from 2 blocks of traditional coffee plantations, Wiyono and Bogorejo, Pesawaran, Lampung.  Of 18 robusta leaves’ samples DNA extraction, electrophoresis showed 14 samples with good results. The optimum temperature for amplification is 62 °C and 63 °C.  The results will be sequenced for its species confirmation.  This project is expected to contribute bottom up towards inclusive and sustainable rural futures at the local level.

Abstract

Kakao merupakan tanaman perkebunan yang mempunyai peran cukup penting dalam perekonomian nasional. Salah satu kendala pada budidaya kakao adalah kehadiran organisme pengganggu tanaman, yaitu kepik penghisap buah kakao (Helopeltis sp.). Pemakaian insektisida kimia secara berlebihan dapat menimbulkan dampak negatif sehingga diperlukan insektisida alternatif yang ramah lingkungan. Ekoenzim kulit pisang kepok manado muda memiliki kandungan bahan aktif yang berpotensi dijadikan insektisida nabati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi ekoenzim kulit pisang kepok manado muda yang efektif dalam mematikan hama penghisap buah kakao. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial 2 faktor perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah konsentrasi ekoenzim (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, dan 20%). Faktor kedua adalah waktu pengamatan (6, 12, 24, 48, dan 72 jam). Data hasil pengamatan dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dengan uji lanjut Tukey dan nilai LC50 dianalisis menggunakan probit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekoenzim kulit pisang kepok manado muda berpotensi sebagai insektisida nabati terhadap hama penghisap buah kakao dengan konsentrasi paling efektif adalah 20%. Sementara hasil analisis probit didapatkan nilai LC50 sebesar 17,95% pada waktu pengamatan 72 jam.

Abstract

Pengetahuan atas sistem penggolongan darah ABO sangat penting sebagai upaya pengenalan diri lebih komprehensif dan bentuk upaya antisipatif dalam kondisi darurat medis. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui proporsi golongan darah dan frekuensi alel mahasiswa sarjana dan diploma FMIPA Unila berdasarkan sistem ABO. Penelitian telah dilakukan dengan penyebaran kuesioner dan informed consent secara daring. Dari 3.244 total mahasiswa, didapatkan informasi bahwa 384 mahasiswa telah mengetahui golongan darahnya. Proporsi tertinggi golongan darah mahasiswa sarjana dan diploma FMIPA Unila adalah O dengan persentase 36,72%, diikuti dengan golongan darah B (28,13%), golongan darah A (25,52%) dan golongan darah AB (9,64%). Berdasarkan formulasi perhitungan Hukum Hardy-Weinberg, diketahui bahwa frekuensi alel A, B, dan O berturut-turut adalah 0,18; 0,21; dan 0,61.

Abstract

 Community stewardship can be done directly. Direct interaction is commonly applied, appreciated, and easy to communicate. During the COVID-19 pandemic, direct interaction and visits are almost impossible due to activity limitations and social distancing. Online and semi-online interaction can be applied by inviting community limited representatives combined with the online method. Initiation on online communication is introduced. This project was conducted in companionship and training in Braja Harjosari and Labuhan Ratu VII, East Lampung. Following the introduction of the online and semionline methods, local people can apply and share their knowledge of the new normal paradigm.

Abstract

Under the HETI Project Program of Universitas Lampung 2023/2024, education and introduction to bats have been conducted in Braja Harjosari and Labuhan Ratu VII, East Lampung. Knowledge about bats and their ecological roles is essential as a conservation effort, particularly in residential areas adjacent to natural bat habitats. Information on bats, including their natural habitats, behaviors, and roles in supporting human life, as well as general species identification, was provided. The selection of locations, mist net installation, capture, handling, and release were demonstrated, including oral swab sample collection. The community’s response and enthusiasm were very positive in understanding bats as wildlife and their roles in human life.

Abstract

Malaria remains a major health problem in endemic areas such as Pesawaran Regency, Lampung, transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Continuous use of synthetic larvicides may lead to resistance, toxicity to non-target organisms, and environmental pollution, thus safer biolarvicidal alternatives are needed. Japanese papaya leaves (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) are known to contain secondary metabolites with potential biolarvicidal activity. This study aimed to determine the biolarvicidal activity of methanol extract of Japanese papaya leaves against the mortality of Anopheles larvae and to observe morphological changes in larvae after exposure. The study used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments: 0% (control), 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%, each with five replications. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, phenols, and steroids. ANOVA results showed significant differences among treatments (p<0.001), while the LSD test indicated that each concentration had a significantly different effect on larval mortality (p<0.05). The highest mortality was observed at 2% concentration, reaching 82.5% at 24 hours and 100% at 48 hours. The methanol extract also caused morphological damage in larvae, including tissue lysis, digestive tract damage, and respiratory system impairment. It can be concluded that the methanol extract of japanese papaya leaves has potential as a natural biolarvicide against Anopheles larvae.
