Abstract

Problem solving skills are important skills that must be possessed by students since elementary school level, in science learning, this skill is very important to help students understand scientific concepts and apply them in everyday life. The purpose of this study was to improve problem solving skills in science learning on the characteristics of living things. The research location was SDN Risa. Quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design that did not use a control group. The subjects in this study were all third grade students consisting of 20 students. The data collection technique used in this study was a test. The test instrument consisted of 10 essay questions, an initial test (pretest) and a final test (posttest) which aimed to determine students' problem solving skills before and after treatment, a questionnaire to determine students' responses to crossword puzzle media and observations to understand student interactions and their responses to crossword puzzle media. The data analysis used was the N-Gain test which showed a value of 0.76 which was included in the moderate category and the effectiveness level score was in the fairly effective category, thus the crossword puzzle media was effectively used in improving students' problem-solving skills at SDN Risa where the average pretest score was 57% and the average posttest score was 90%..

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) analyze the effectiveness of the Concrete-Image-Abstract (KGA) approach in improving the mathematical reasoning and proof process of second-grade students of SDN 001 Bentiar Besar; and (2) measure the magnitude of the increase in mathematical reasoning through KGA compared to conventional learning. A quasi-experimental Non-Equivalent Control Group design was applied with 60 students (n = 30 per class). Data were collected using a validated mathematical reasoning and proof test (10 items, maximum score 100) and analyzed through the Shapiro-Wilk, Levene, independent t-test, N-Gain, and Cohen's tests. The results showed: (1) there was a significant difference in post-test scores between the experimental and control classes (t = 9.72; p < 0.001); (2) the N-Gain of the experimental class g = 0.62 (medium-high category) compared to the control g = 0.26 (low category); and (3) large effect size (d = 1.47). The conclusion of the study confirms that the KGA approach which integrates concrete manipulatives, pictorial representations, and symbolic abstractions substantially and fairly improves the mathematical reasoning and proof of lower grade students in elementary schools in remote areas. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan: (1) menganalisis efektivitas pendekatan Konkrit-Gambar-Abstrak (KGA) dalam meningkatkan proses penalaran dan pembuktian matematis siswa kelas II SDN 001 Bentiar Besar; dan (2) mengukur besaran peningkatan penalaran matematis melalui KGA dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional. Desain kuasi-eksperimen Non-Equivalent Control Group diterapkan dengan 60 siswa (n = 30 per kelas). Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes penalaran dan pembuktian matematis tervalidasi (10 butir, skor maksimum 100) dan dianalisis melalui uji Shapiro-Wilk, Levene, uji-t independen, N-Gain, dan Cohen's. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) terdapat perbedaan signifikan skor postes antara kelas eksperimen dan kontrol (t = 9,72; p < 0,001); (2) N-Gain kelas eksperimen g = 0,62 (kategori sedang-tinggi) dibandingkan kontrol g = 0,26 (kategori rendah); dan (3) effect size besar (d = 1,47). Simpulan penelitian menegaskan bahwa pendekatan KGA yang mengintegrasikan manipulatif konkret, representasi piktoral, dan abstraksi simbolik secara substansial dan berkeadilan meningkatkan penalaran dan pembuktian matematis siswa kelas rendah di sekolah dasar daerah terpencil.

Abstract

This study aims to test the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, supported by diorama media, in improving students’ understanding of science concepts related to food chains. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. The study subjects consisted of 15 fifth-grade students from SDN Penapali, selected through saturation sampling. Data were collected via tests, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and a paired-sample t-test with the assistance of Jamovi software. The analysis results indicated that the data were normally distributed (p > 0.05). Hypothesis testing revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.001) with an effect size classified as very large. These findings confirm that  implementing of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model aided by diorama media significantly and effectively improves students’ understanding of science concepts. The integration of problem-based learning with concrete media has proven capable of strengthening student engagement and facilitating deeper knowledge construction. Therefore, this approach is recommended as an innovative strategy in science education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara mendalam pemaknaan dan implementasi Deep Learning oleh guru sekolah dasar dalam konteks Kurikulum Merdeka, serta mengidentifikasi dinamika pedagogis yang muncul dalam proses transformasi pembelajaran. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain fenomenologi untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman hidup (lived experiences) guru dalam menginterpretasikan perubahan paradigma pembelajaran. Partisipan penelitian terdiri atas empat guru sekolah dasar di SDN Pandede yang dipilih secara purposif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan dianalisis menggunakan analisis tekstual komputasional berbasis N-Gram yang dipadukan dengan koding tematik untuk mengidentifikasi pola makna, tema, dan struktur pengalaman subjektif guru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Deep Learning dimaknai guru sebagai pergeseran paradigma pembelajaran dari berorientasi pada penyampaian materi menuju pembelajaran yang berfokus pada pemahaman konsep, keterlibatan aktif siswa, dan pengembangan berpikir kritis. Implementasi dilakukan melalui integrasi Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, diskusi reflektif, serta asesmen diagnostik untuk memetakan kesiapan belajar siswa. Pendekatan ini meningkatkan partisipasi, rasa ingin tahu, dan kualitas pemahaman konsep siswa, namun implementasinya masih menghadapi kendala struktural seperti keterbatasan waktu, tuntutan penyelesaian kurikulum, serta variasi kemampuan literasi dan numerasi siswa. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa implementasi Deep Learning di sekolah dasar merupakan proses transformasi pedagogis yang memerlukan dukungan sistemik, penguatan kompetensi profesional berkelanjutan, serta rekonstruksi praktik pembelajaran agar implementasi Deep Learning dapat berlangsung secara konsisten, adaptif, dan bermakna.
