Abstract

The objective of this study was to ascertain whether or not the task-based learning method can enhance students' inferential reading comprehension. A pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test was employed in this study, which was conducted with all students in the 11th grade as the population. The sample consisted of 36 students from class 11.2 at UPT SMAN 5 Pinrang. The data were collected via an inferential reading comprehension test and subsequently analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The findings indicated a statistically significant enhancement in students' inferential reading comprehension, as evidenced by a probability value of less than 0.001, which was below the 0.05 significance threshold.  The t-value (14.244) exceeded the t-table value (2.03), thereby confirming the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Additionally, the N-Gain value was classified as high (>0.70), providing further evidence of the effectiveness of this method. These findings demonstrate that the task-based learning method is an effective method to significantly enhance students' inferential reading comprehension. Consequently, this method can be a viable alternative teaching strategy for enhancing reading comprehension within similar educational contexts.

Abstract

Pelatihan ini yang dikemas dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat bertujuan untuk membekali dan membantu mahasiswa baru Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, FBS UNM tahun akademik 2024/2025 mengenali dan memahami emosi akademik dengan berbagai faktor yang memengaruhinya, dan mengetahui cara mengelola emosi akademik mereka dengan baik. Kegiatan ini dilakukan secara interaktif melalui tiga metode: (1) ceramah dengan pemaparan materi emosi akademik melalui LCD, (2) diskusi untuk menjawab pertanyaan peserta, dan (3) presentasi mahasiswa tentang kasus emosi akademik yang mereka hadapi. Hasil pelatihan ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) mahasiswa dalam mengenali, memahami, dan mengelola emosi akademik sangat penting untuk mendukung pencapaian hasil akademik yang optimal, (2) faktor internal dan eksternal memengaruhi emosi akademik mereka: faktor internal terdiri atas kepercayaan diri, motivasi intrinsik, dan kondisi psikologis, sedangkan faktor eksternal adalah lingkungan belajar, metode pengajaran, dan dukungan sosial; (3) mahasiswa mengelola emosi akademik dengan cara meningkatkan kesadaran emosional, mengembangkan pola pikir positif, menerapkan strategi manajemen stress, manajemen waktu yang efektif, membangun lingkungan belajar yang positif, dan mendapatkan dukungan sosial yang memadai. Berdasarkan hasil ini, disimpulkan bahwa pelatihan ini efektik membantu mahasiswa mengenali, memahami, dan mengelola emosi akademik mereka yang memegang andil dalam keberhasilannya menjalani akademik di perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan untuk melatih dan memberikan pemahaman menulis Penelitian Tindakan Kelas kepada guru-guru SMP di Wonomulyo, Sulawesi Barat. Guru-guru diberikan beberapa materi pemahaman tentang Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, langkah-langkah Penelitian Tindakan kelas, dan merancang suatu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas. Hasil dari kegiatan PKM ini adalah guru-guru Bahasa Inggris di Wonomulyo baru mengetahui bahwa dalam menulis Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, hal yang harus dilakukan terlebih dahulu adalah mengidentifikasi masalah pembelajaran, menemukan alternatif solusi, dan menentukan topik kajian suatu PTK. Selain itu, mereka masih mengalami kesulitan dalam mengembangkan ide-ide mereka, dan mencari kajian literatur yang sesuai dengan topik kajian mereka. Walaupun begitu, selama pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM, para peserta menunjukkan semangat dan motivasi yang tinggi.

Abstract

This research focused on identifying the learning strategies of eighth-grade students at SMPN 18 Makassar to increase their English reading interest. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to achieve the research objective. The data was collected through interviews. The subject of this study was 7 students of grade VIII SMPN 18 Makassar, academic year 2023/2024, and selected using a simple random sampling technique. The findings revealed that the students applied cognitive, metacognitive, and socio-affective strategies in improving their reading interest. Cognitive strategies help students understand and remember information better by summarizing the text. Metacognitive strategies such as planning, monitoring, and evaluating help students to manage their learning process, which makes reading more purposeful. Socio-affective strategies involve social interaction and emotional support, like interacting with friends or teachers, and self-reward makes reading more enjoyable. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate these strategies into educational practices to make reading more effective and enjoyable for students.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of students' educational background on learning outcomes in English subject. This type of research is ex post facto quantitative research. This research was conducted to determine the causes or reasons for the existence of differences in behavior or status of individual groups. The sample in this research was students of MA Pesantren Tarbiyah Takalar classes Xa and Xb, totaling 45 students. The research instruments used are questionnaires and documentation of learning outcomes. The questionnaires given to students contains 10 questions about educational background and documentation of learning outcomes used to determine students' learning outcomes by looking at the learning outcome report. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The research results show that ????count = 0,118 and ???????????????????????? = 2,016 so ????count < ???????????????????????? (0,118 < 2,016) means that there is no influence of students' educational background on learning outcomes in English subject at MA Pesantren Tarbiyah Takalar.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of the mind mapping technique on enhancing students’ vocabulary achievement. Employing a pre-experimental research design, data were gathered through the administration of pre-tests and post-tests. The study population consisted of eleventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Tellu Limpoe, with a sample of 30 students selected through cluster random sampling. The findings reveal a statistically significant improvement in vocabulary achievement following the implementation of the mind mapping technique. The results of the T-test analysis show a T-value of 0.001, which is considerably lower than the predetermined significance level of 0.05, indicating a meaningful effect. Furthermore, the N-Gain score analysis categorizes the level of improvement as a medium category. These outcomes suggest that the mind mapping technique contributes significantly to enhancing students’ vocabulary achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of charades game in teaching vocabulary at SMP Negeri 1 Pallangga. The research used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population were 7th-grade students from the 2024/2025 school year, with class VII.4, consisting of 45 students, chosen through cluster sampling. The instrument used in this study was a vocabulary test with four types of questions: fill in the blank, cloze-gap, definition, and sentence writing, totaling 20 items. The analysis of pre-test and post-test scores showed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary after using the charades game. The t-test result was 13.576, which is higher than the t-table value of 2.015, and the 2-tailed significance was less than alpha (α) 0.001 < 0.05. This means the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. In conclusion, the charades game is effective in improving vocabulary skills among students at SMPN 1 Pallangga.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of TikTok Application as online English learning medium can improve students’ vocabulary mastery and to find out students’ perception of the use of TikTok Application in learning English vocabulary. This research was conducted at SMA Katolik Messawa. The population in this study were students of class X IPA SMA Katolik Messawa. The researcher used a purposive random sampling technique for class X IPA as the sample in this study. This study used a pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design method. The instrument used by the researcher is a vocabulary test and a questionnaire. Then several treatments were carried out and at the end of the meeting a vocabulary test was again carried out. Based on the results of the average calculation, it is known that the use of TikTok Application can improve students' vocabulary mastery, where the mean posttest is greater than the mean of pretest. Then the researcher concluded that the use of TikTok Application can improve students' vocabulary mastery. Students perceived the use of TikTok Application in learning English vocabulary quite positively. Their perceptions to the twelve statement items were dominated by positive responses, they surely have positive thoughts about the use of TikTok Application to improve their vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate how effectively Google Classroom can improve students' listening skills at SMPN 21 Makassar. A quantitative research method using a pre-experimental design was implemented. The participants were eighth-grade students from SMPN 21 Makassar, with one class chosen from a total of six through cluster random sampling. Specifically, class 8E was selected, which had 20 students. To gather data, listening tests were conducted both before and after the intervention. The collected data were analyzed using a t-test with a significance level set at 0.05. The research revealed a p-value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is lower than the significance threshold of 0.05. As a consequence, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Moreover, the effectiveness of Google Classroom, assessed through the N-Gain score, indicated a moderate level of effectiveness. Therefore, the researcher concludes that Google Classroom is relatively effective in enhancing students' listening skills at SMPN 21 Makassar.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the improvement of learning motivation in students after the application of the mind mapping technique. The researcher applied a pre-experimental method, and to achieve the research objectives, data collection was conducted through a pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The population in this study was 11th-grade students at SMPN 1 Tellu Limpoe, and the sample consisted of 30 students determined using the cluster random sampling technique. The research results show that: ) The impact of the mind mapping technique on learning motivation after the same test, namely the T-test, shows a probability value of 0.001 significantly lower than the significance level (0.05), and after being analyzed with N-Gain, shows that the increase in student learning motivation is classified as an increase with a percentage increase of 27.71%. It can be concluded that the use of the mind mapping technique has a significant impact on learning motivation in students.
