Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the struggle of the character in the novel Arus Balik. The method used is the content analysis method. Data is obtained by reading and recording techniques. Data were analyzed with qualitative descriptive analysis techniques through data comparison, categorization, data presentation, and inference. The results showed that the struggle of the character in the Arus Balik novel by Pramoedya Ananta Toer consisted of heroism (28%), nationalism (33%), never giving up (25%), kinship (9%), and selflessness (5%). The value of the struggle for heroism consists of being wary of the enemy, defending the people, defending the truth, selflessness, daring to die, being responsible, and commanding authority. The value of nationalism consists of love for the flag itself, loyal to the leader, thinking about the safety of the country, supporting the struggle to defend the country, and participating in defending the country. The value of the unyielding struggle consists of fighting to the death and believing in your abilities. Meanwhile, the value of selfless struggle consists in overcoming not expecting respect and not expecting office. Abstract

This article examines the role of religiosity and humanitarian values in modern Indonesian literature and their implications for literature learning in higher education. Unlike philosophy or history, literature presents reality through imaginative expression while adhering to principles of plausibility, integrity, novelty, and aesthetic value, making it a strategic medium for conveying moral and spiritual messages. Using a descriptive-qualitative method with content analysis, this study analyzes selected literary works, including Sang Pencerah by Akhmal Nasery Basral, Negeri 5 Menara by A. Fuadi, Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata, Kubah by Ahmad Tohari, Family of Permana by Ramadhan K.H., as well as short stories by A.A. Navis, Umar Kayam, and Nugroho Notosusanto. The findings indicate that these works contain strong dimensions of religiosity, such as monotheism, worship, and faith, alongside humanitarian values including friendship, empathy, devotion, and social awareness, which are embedded in characters, settings, and narrative conflicts. These values can be utilized as effective media for character education in higher education, particularly in fostering tolerance, responsibility, and respect for others. The study offers novelty by integrating religious and humanitarian values into character-based literature learning strategies, positioning literature not only as an aesthetic form but also as a relevant instrument of moral and humanitarian education in responding to globalization and the moral challenges faced by younger generations.

Abstract

Abstract This article analyses the effectiveness of ethnomathematics-based geometry learning using a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach supported by mobile devices on junior high school students’ mathematical disposition. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed in this study. The sample consisted of 30 eighth-grade students selected through a cluster random sampling technique from a public junior high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The instrument used was a mathematical disposition questionnaire comprising 16 validated statements. Data were analysed descriptively and inferentially using the Shapiro–Wilk test, one-sample t-test, and one-population proportion test. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ mathematical disposition after implementing ethnomathematics-based geometry learning through the PBL approach assisted by mobile devices. The average questionnaire score increased from 48 (poor category) to 59 (good category), with 90% of students achieving or exceeding the good category threshold. These findings indicate that integrating ethnomathematics into problem-solving activities facilitated by mobile technology can foster students’ confidence, persistence, interest, and comfort in discussing and learning mathematics.
