Abstract

Background: Malaria is still a universal health problem, especially in tropical countries because of high morbidity and mortality rates. Infection by Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax could result in asymptomatic disease of malaria and be found in Trenggalek, Jawa Timur. Differences in pathogenesis among affected individuals are affected by many factors, and the immune system is one of them. Among substances involved in the malarial immunity is Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF)-α and Interleukin (IL)-10, produced by the body's defense system as the reaction to the parasite. Therefore a study was designed to detect the level of TNF-α and IL-10 in asymptomatic malaria patients.Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. Thirty male asymptomatic malaria subjects, age 21 to 60 years were selected. Blood from each subject was collected and the levels of TNF-α and IL-10 were analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Significant values considered at p<0.05.Results: There was an increased level of TNF-α with the average of 218.760 pg/µL, and an increased level of IL-10 with an average of 257.574 pg/µL in asymptomatic malaria subjects. In normal person IL-10 level is 12.6 (8.5-16.7) pg/mL and the levels of TNF-α in normal person is 0-1.5 pg/mL because they are not produce. There was a positive correlation of TNF-α with IL-10 (r=0.332; p>0.05), and positive correlation between TNF-α and the rate of hemoglobin (r=0.002; p>0.05). IL-10 was correlated negatively with the rate of hemoglobin (r=-0.363; p<0.05).Conclusion: The results from this study conclude that TNF-α and IL-10 levels increase in asymptomatic malaria subjects. Keywords: asymptomatic malaria, TNF-α, IL-10, parasite, hemoglobin

Abstract

Abstract

SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid test is one of the examinations widely used for early detection of Covid-19 infection. Rapid test is considered to have more advantages, is faster, and is cheaper than molecular PCR testing, and more accurate than rapid antibody tests. Its weakness is especially in detecting samples with small quantities of the virus. The study was conducted using a retrospective method. The data was taken from the patient's medical record of the SARS -CoV-2 antigen rapid swab test at Brata Medika Pare Clinical Laboratory for the period of February 2021. Data inclusion criteria including the examination, complete identity, results of anamnesis examination and rapid test examinations. Data were analyzed in a tabular form containing frequency and percentage. There were 18 (22.5%) patients with positive SARS-CoV-2antigen rapid swab test results, 16 (89%) with complaints/symptoms, and 2 (11%) without complaints/symptoms. Meanwhile, 62 (77.5%) were found with negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid swab test results where 18 (29.0%) were patients with complaints/symptoms and 44 (71.0%) were patients without complaints/symptoms. The high percentage of negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid swab test results in patients with complaints/symptoms (29.0%), it is recommended that a confirmatory examination with the molecular PCR test be carried out.

Abstract

One of the efforts to prevent the overreaching condition is by doing a recovery phase after exercise. The quality and quantity of recovery influence the effectiveness of recovery. The effectiveness of recovery can be observed by heart rate and body temperature after recovery. This study aims to compare active recovery and passive recovery after moderate-intensity continuous training on heart rate and body temperature. The research method used is quasi-experimental and uses a two-group pre and post-test design. Based on the Pocock formula, the research subjects used were 40 women aged 24 years to 35 years. The data collected include heart rate and body temperature. The data analysis techniques used were normality test, treatment effect test (paired sample t-test), and difference test (independent samples t-test). The results showed that active recovery was better than passive recovery to optimizing post-exercise heart rate (p<0.05). Active recovery was better than passive recovery in optimizing body temperature (p<0.05). It was concluded that active recovery after moderate-intensity continuous training was better than passive recovery to optimize post-exercise recovery and prevent overreaching.

Abstract

The available literature regarding the epidemiological or clinical features of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) in most women will experience episodes of vulvovaginal candidiasis in their lifetime, 50% of whom will experience at least a second episode, and 5-10% of all women will experience recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (≥ 4 episode / 1 year). Vulvovaginal candidiasis is known as one of the most common yeast infections in women of reproductive age and is considered an important public health problem. In recent years, due to resistance to common antifungal drugs, the use of traditional antifungal medicines and herbal remedies has increased. Therefore this system aimed to investigate the effect of honey vaginal gel/ointment and to compare it with clotrimazole vaginal cream on symptoms of vulvovaginal candidiasis in patients. Vaginal clotrimazole is the drug of choice for the treatment of VVC. However, the increasing drug resistance to these microorganisms has led to greater interest in naturally occurring antifungal drugs. This systematic literature was conducted to compare vaginal honey ointment/gel and clotrimazole vaginal cream for the treatment of VVC.

Abstract

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis infection. About 60% of the world's population has been infected. Toxoplasma cerebri is one of the most common opportunistic infections in the central nervous system of HIV patients. The disease is acute and chronic, with mild symptoms that are non-specific so it is difficult to distinguish from other diseases or is often asymptomatic. The incidence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) occupies the highest place in Asia with high morbidity and mortality. Toxoplasma is ranked in the top 10 opportunistic diseases as a direct cause of morbidity and mortality, with variable symptoms and reactivation. The purpose of the study: to detect Toxoplasma gondii from blood samples of patients with HIV/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). In immunocompromised conditions, especially HIV/AIDS, symptoms of severe complications will arise, one of which is toxsoplasma encephalitis (TE). The high rate of morbidity and mortality of TE in HIV/AIDS patients, around 30-40%, makes an accurate diagnosis important. Research Methods: The study design used was cross sectional to determine the level of IgG Toxoplasma Gondii antibodies in HIV patients and serologically. The research subjects were 30 individual subjects who were positive for HIV infection, of which 30 patients would be screened for the levels of IgG Toxoplasma Gondii antibodies and then see the correlation with lifestyle and food consumed. The achievement target of this research is to find out whether HIV patients have levels of IgG Toxoplasma Gondii antibodies through serological tests, so that appropriate therapy and education can be given for the treatment of toxoplasmosis, so that these results can be published scientifically in national journals, and become paper material in scientific meetings.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, with high prevalence in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. This infection can cause brain damage and is associated with diseases such as epilepsy. This study aims to analyze the occurrence of seizures in patients whose mothers have a history of T. gondii infection. Toxoplasmosis during pregnancy can be transmitted to the fetus via the placenta, causing severe fetal tissue damage and potentially triggering neurological disorders like epilepsy. Pathophysiological mechanisms include increased blood-brain barrier permeability, excitotoxicity, and damage to glutamatergic receptors and mitochondria. In Indonesia, the prevalence of toxoplasmosis ranges from 40%-60%, with risk factors including contact with stray cats and consuming raw meat. This study utilizes a literature review method to investigate the relationship between maternal T. gondii infection and the incidence of epilepsy in offspring. The findings suggest that maternal T. gondii infection during pregnancy significantly increases the risk of epilepsy in offspring. Effective public health measures are crucial for raising prevention awareness and improving access to comprehensive prenatal care.
