Abstract

Urnover intention in nurses is a serious concern in the health care industry, affecting workforce stability and the quality of services provided to patients. Complex factors such as job satisfaction, work environment, and personal factors have been identified as the main causes of nurses' intention to leave their jobs. Purpose: This study aims to review the factors that influence turnover intention in nurses. Methods: A scoping review study design was used with the Arksey and O'Malley approach. A literature search was carried out through the Scopus, PubMed, and CINAHL databases using relevant keywords. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were established for study selection, and data were extracted using manual tables. Data analysis was carried out descriptively qualitatively with a thematic analysis approach. Results: The literature review showed that there were 8 articles that met the inclusion criteria to be included in the analysis. Factors that influence turnover intention in nurses include internal aspects such as job satisfaction, work stress, and organizational commitment, as well as external factors such as the work environment and social support. Conclusion: By deeply understanding these factors, health organizations can design appropriate intervention strategies to reduce turnover intention, increase nursing workforce retention, and improve the quality of health services provided to patients.

Abstract

Family is the main environment in the process of forming a child’s personality, where a good personality results from a good upbringing and education from both mother and father. However, the presence of a father figure is often not felt. Fatherless is the absence of a father’s role and presence in parenting, which occurs due to a particular reason. Objective: This study aims to determine the overview of fatherless in adolescents at SMAN X Bandung. Method: This study is a descriptive-quantitative research using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique, conducted on 291 students of SMAN X Bandung. The research data were measured from The Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ), which has been translated into Indonesian, with the validity test count of 0.303 - 0.819 and Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.958. The data were analyzed univariately using frequency distribution and percentages. Results: A total 120 students (41.2%) are at high risk of experiencing fatherless, while the other 171 students (58.8%) are not at risk and receive adequate father’s role. Conclusions: The father’s role and presence for students is still necessary to be improved by holding a parenting class, training, and seminar, as these will have a positive impact on the student’s psychological development.

Abstract

The Middle East is experiencing a significant shortage of nursing professionals, a situation exacerbated by various factors including rapid population growth, economic challenges, and healthcare demands. The movement of migrant nurses toward the Middle East has led many migrants to work as a nurse. While the influx of migrant nurses has had positive impacts on healthcare delivery, it has also introduced a range of challenges and barriers that affect both the nurses and the healthcare systems they support. Understanding these barriers and challenges among migrant nurses in the Middle East is essential to maintain retention that will lead to a decrease in the rate of migrant nurse turnover. There is a range of factors that contribute to barriers and challenges; however, summarizing these factors related to barriers and challenges among migrant nurses in the Middle East countries are none up to now. Purpose to identify, integrate, and summarize barriers and challenges among migrant nurses in the Middle East countries. Methods: This review applied the methodological framework for scoping reviews proposed by Arksey and O'Malley, and it is documented according to the PRISMA-ScR checklist. Searches were conducted across four electronic databases: Ebscohost, Science Direct, PubMed- and Google Scholar to locate primary research and gray literature published from 2005 to 2024. Titles and abstracts were screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, followed by a review of the full-text articles. The extracted data were summarized, and the findings were synthesized. There are several factors contributing for barriers and challenges experienced among migrant nurses working in middle east. These factors are categorized into three levels: the macro level, the meso level, and the micro level. By conducting research on the barriers and challenges faced by migrant nurses in the Middle East, stakeholders can work towards creating a more supportive, equitable, and sustainable healthcare environment that benefits both healthcare professionals and the communities they serve.

Abstract

Nursing professional organizations in Indonesia have established standardized guidelines for nursing documentation. However, the formulation of nursing diagnoses is still carried out as a routine activity by nursing teams, resulting in cases where diagnoses are not established according to proper standards. This community service program aimed to improve nurses’ understanding of nursing diagnosis formulation in accordance with Indonesian standards. The activity was implemented using a mini-seminar method involving 30 participants from two hospitals in the Bandung area. It was part of an activity based on Kemmis and McTaggart’s theory. In the preliminary phase, evaluation was conducted using a knowledge scale measurement and documentation observation to assess the number of nursing diagnoses implemented. The results showed an improvement in nurses’ ability to formulate nursing diagnoses, marked by an increase in understanding from only 10% before the activity to 83.33% after, with a p-value <0.001. In addition, the average number of nursing diagnosis labels increased from two to five per nurse. These findings indicate that the mini-seminar method is effective in enhancing nurses’ ability to formulate nursing diagnoses in accordance with established standards. Keywords: Nursing diagnosis, partisipatory research.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by inadequate insulin action. Poor disease control can lead to complications such as neuropathy, commonly marked by tingling or sensory loss. Effective prevention requires structured management through the five pillars of diabetes care. This case study describes the application of these pillars in a patient with hyperglycemia. Case: A 58-year-old male with diabetes mellitus presented with reduced sensation in the feet, abdominal discomfort, and consistently elevated blood glucose levels. The patient had limited disease knowledge and misconceptions related to diabetes self-management. Intervention: Education on the five pillars of diabetes was provided using a structured approach consisting of three self-care pillars and two collaborative pillars. Leaflet-based educational materials developed by the author were used to facilitate understanding for both the patient and family. Results: Following the intervention, the patient demonstrated increased knowledge, awareness, and improved ability to manage hyperglycemia. The family also showed enhanced understanding and support for diabetes care. Conclusion: Nurse-led education using the five pillars of diabetes effectively improves knowledge, awareness, and self-management abilities in individuals with diabetes mellitus, contributing to better glycemic control and prevention of complications.

Abstract

Addison's disease or chronic adrenal insufficiency is an autoimmune disease with endocrine disorders that occur due to a decrease in the ability of the adrenal cortex, causing the adrenal glands to fail to produce the hormones cortisol and aldosterone. This condition has an impact on the physical, psychological, and social abilities of patients. Therefore, patient knowledge about the disease, self-care management at home, and medications consumed are the main basis for improving health management at home. The research subjects were Addison's disease patients admitted to the inpatient ward of Utsman Bin Affan RSUD UOBK Welas Asih. This study used a problem-based nursing care management approach based on 3M (Man, Method, Material) and nursing intervention planning using the POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) management function, with a focus on the implementation of discharge planning using the LIMA model for the readiness to improve patient health management. The results of the study showed an increase in the knowledge scores of patients and families from the pre-test and post-test results, indicating an increase in readiness for independent health management at home. Thus, the application of the LIMA model as an intervention from discharge planning can be an intervention that supports the improvement of health management readiness as a continuation of nursing care that has been provided in hospitals and has the potential to reduce the risk of patient rehospitalization

Abstract

Postoperative wounds are at high risk for complications such as infection, wound dehiscence, and sepsis, particularly in patients with hypoalbuminemia that impairs tissue regeneration. This case report aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care management based on education about wound care and nutrition in improving the knowledge of patients and families. Method: A descriptive case report approach was conducted on Mrs. S (32 years old) diagnosed with burst abdomen and hypoalbuminemia after open cholecystectomy in the Medical-Surgical Inpatient Unit of Hospital X. The intervention consisted of educational sessions using leaflet and video media based on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), covering aseptic principles, wound care steps, signs of infection, and the importance of high-calorie high-protein (HCHP) nutrition. Evaluation was performed using pre-test and post-test assessments. Results: The patient’s knowledge score increased from 40 (pre-test) to 100 (post-test), while the family’s knowledge improved from 40 to 80. Analysis using the 3M approach (Man, Method, Material) indicated that educational effectiveness was supported by active involvement of nurses and family, interactive learning methods, and accessible educational media. Conclusion: Implementation of 3M-based nursing management through combined leaflet and video education proved effective in enhancing the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of patients and families in performing independent wound care at home

Abstract

Dietary education in thalassemia major is often neglected due to high nursing workloads. This case report evaluates a structured dietary education intervention using management frameworks to address this gap. The methods are a descriptive study was conducted on a family with three siblings diagnosed with thalassemia major and severe hyperferritinemia. The 3M (Man, Method, Material) analysis identified primary barriers: high procedural workload, lack of SOPs, and absence of educational media. Consequently, a POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) intervention using digital videos and leaflets was implemented to overcome these constraints. The results that the intervention effectively bypassed clinical time constraints. Family health literacy improved substantially, with dietary knowledge scores increasing from 2 out of 5 to a perfect 5 out of 5, sustained over a five month follow-up. Behavioral changes in meal preparation were reported, although immediate serum ferritin reduction was not yet observed. Structured education utilizing digital media effectively bridges the gap between patient needs and limited nursing resources. Integrating digital tools into routine practice and establishing SOPs are recommended to ensure comprehensive management and improve long-term patient outcomes.
