Abstract

Effects of Star Drill and Z-Pattern Run on Futsal Players’ Agility Abstract Agility is an essential biomotor component in futsal because players are required to move rapidly, change direction, accelerate, decelerate, and maintain body control within a limited playing area. This study aimed to examine the effects of Star Drill and Z-Pattern Run training on the agility of futsal players at SMPN 8 Mataram and to compare the effectiveness of the two training methods. A quantitative approach with a two-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The sample consisted of 14 futsal players who were divided into a Star Drill group and a Z-Pattern Run group, with 7 players in each group. Agility was measured using the shuttle run test in seconds, and the data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and effect size analysis. The findings showed that Star Drill training reduced the mean time from 14.8386 to 14.0757 seconds, while Z-Pattern Run training reduced the mean time from 14.4171 to 13.5843 seconds. Both training methods significantly improved agility, with a significance value of 0.000. However, the comparison of gain scores indicated no significant difference in effectiveness between Star Drill and Z-Pattern Run, with a significance value of 0.442. These findings indicate that both training models can be used as effective, practical, and field-applicable alternatives for improving agility among school-level futsal players.

Abstract

This study explores the development of exercise therapy research for athlete rehabilitation, with a total of 966 Scopus-indexed articles published between 1973 and 2025, demonstrating a significant increase since 2011 and peaking in 2023. A quantitative bibliometric approach was employed to map publication trends, author and institutional distributions, international collaboration patterns, journal distributions according to Bradford’s Law, subject areas, as well as conceptual structures and keyword clusters, using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix for analysis. The findings indicate that publications are concentrated among a small number of authors, institutions, and core journals, with primary research orientations including injury rehabilitation, performance enhancement, physiological regulation, and cardiovascular safety. Keyword cluster analysis identified six thematic orientations emphasizing musculoskeletal injury management, physiological recovery, tendon and knee rehabilitation, performance and conditioning, cardiovascular risk, and professional and clinical practice. These findings confirm that exercise therapy research has evolved into a complex and integrated multidisciplinary field, offering theoretical and practical contributions to the development of more holistic and safe evidence-based rehabilitation interventions. The study also highlights the need for longitudinal and interdisciplinary research, particularly for non-elite populations and specific cardiovascular risks, to strengthen the scientific foundation and practical application of athlete rehabilitation.

Abstract

The rapid transformation of the global sports industry, driven by digitalization, globalization, sustainability demands, and increasingly complex governance structures, has created a need for a more integrated understanding of sports management research. Although event management, marketing, finance, and policy have each received scholarly attention, studies that map their interconnections within a comprehensive research framework remain limited. This study aims to examine the development of sports management literature and identify publication patterns, dominant contributors, and emerging thematic trends. A quantitative bibliometric approach was employed using publication data from the Web of Science database covering the period from 1982 to 2025. The analysis focused on publication growth, country contributions, author and institutional productivity, journal and publisher distribution, and keyword relationships. The findings show that sports management research has expanded notably after 2020, with contributions dominated by developed countries while emerging participation from developing countries has begun to appear. The keyword mapping further reveals increasing attention to sustainability, digitalization, strategic management, sports marketing, sports entrepreneurship, higher education, and charity sport events. These findings indicate that sports management is evolving into a multidisciplinary field that requires a holistic framework integrating managerial, financial, policy, technological, and sustainability perspectives. Future research should strengthen comparative and empirical studies, particularly in developing-country contexts. Abstract

The Effectiveness of Chase Down and Sudden Death Drills on Improving Soccer Dribbling Speed Abstract This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of Chase Down and Sudden Death drills in improving soccer dribbling speed among GAMA PA players. The research gap lies in the limited evidence comparing these two game-like drills in a local club context. A quantitative two-group pretest–posttest design without an external control group was applied. The sample consisted of 22 players divided into a Chase Down group and a Sudden Death group, with 11 players in each group. The instrument was a soccer dribbling test using cones and a stopwatch. The intervention was conducted over six weeks with 18 training sessions. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, normality testing, homogeneity testing, paired sample t-tests, and score-change comparison. The Chase Down group reduced dribbling time from 11.1064 to 11.0773 seconds, t(10) = 4.891, p = .001, d = 1.47. The Sudden Death group reduced dribbling time from 10.7373 to 10.7018 seconds, t(10) = 3.180, p = .010, d = 0.96. Both drills improved dribbling performance, with Sudden Death showing a slightly larger descriptive time reduction.

Abstract

The Effect of Target Shooting Training Variations on Shooting Accuracy among 13-Year-Old Soccer Players Abstract This study aimed to determine the improvement in shooting accuracy among 13-year-old SSB Mars Praya players after target shooting training variations. The study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 players selected through total sampling. The research instrument was the Bobby Charlton Shooting Test, which measures shooting accuracy based on goal scoring zones. The training program consisted of 12 sessions over four weeks using six target shooting variations. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Because the posttest and gain-score data were not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used as the main analysis. The results showed an increase in mean score from 90.50 to 156.00, with all players improving. The Wilcoxon test showed Z = -3.931, p < .001, and effect size r = .88. In conclusion, shooting accuracy improved significantly after target shooting training, although the findings should be interpreted cautiously due to the absence of a control group.

Abstract

Analysis of School Traditions as an Adaptive Strategy for Implementing the Healthy School Movement at Elementary School Abstract This study aimed to analyze school traditions as an adaptive strategy for supporting the Healthy School Movement at SDN 2 Kuripan Selatan. A qualitative case study design was used. The informants consisted of two key informants, namely the principal and the physical education teacher/school health activity manager, and one group of upper-grade students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Cheerful Morning Exercise, Free Nutritious Meals, the Five-Minute Waste-Picking Movement, 5S culture, morning literacy-numeracy routines, and Plastic-Free Day support the physical, nutrition, mental, and environmental health pillars. However, implementation is constrained by the absence of a permanent health unit room, healthy canteen, sorted waste bins, limited soap availability, snacking habits, and some students’ late-night gaming. The study concludes that school traditions can be considered an initial contextual strategy to support the Healthy School Movement.

Abstract

Smash ability in sepaktakraw is a complex attacking skill that requires the integration of anthropometric reach, lower-limb explosive power, flexibility, body coordination, and technical accuracy. This study aimed to examine the relationship between leg length, leg explosive power, and flexibility with smash ability among students of the Faculty of Sport Science, Universitas Negeri Makassar. A quantitative approach with a descriptive-correlational design was employed. The final sample consisted of 50 students with complete data and no missing values. Leg length was measured using an anthropometric procedure, leg explosive power using the vertical jump test, flexibility using a trunk flexibility test, and smash ability using a sepaktakraw smash skill test. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Pearson correlation, simple regression, and multiple regression. The findings showed that leg length, leg explosive power, and flexibility were positively and significantly related to smash ability, with correlation coefficients of r = 0.552, r = 0.676, and r = 0.607, respectively. The multiple regression model indicated that the three predictors simultaneously explained 60.9% of the variance in smash ability. These findings indicate that sepaktakraw smash performance is more strongly supported by functional physical capacities, particularly lower-limb explosive power and flexibility, than by anthropometric characteristics alone.

Abstract

Overhead passing is a fundamental volleyball skill that requires controlled arm force, adequate trunk mobility, precise eye-hand coordination, and stable contact with the ball. This study examined the relationships between arm muscle strength, trunk flexibility, and eye-hand coordination with overhead passing ability among students in the volleyball learning context of SMA Nasional Makassar. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was used with 60 valid student records. Data were collected through a push-up test, trunk forward-flexion test, wall bounce test, and 30-second volleyball overhead passing test. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, the One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Pearson correlation, simple regression, and multiple regression. The results showed that all variables were normally distributed. Arm muscle strength was positively and significantly correlated with overhead passing ability (r = 0.657, p = 0.000), trunk flexibility was positively and significantly correlated with overhead passing ability (r = 0.457, p = 0.000), and eye-hand coordination was positively and significantly correlated with overhead passing ability (r = 0.589, p = 0.000). Simultaneously, the three predictors were significantly associated with overhead passing ability (R = 0.801, R Square = 0.642, F = 33.486, p = 0.000). These findings indicate that overhead passing ability is a multicomponent motor skill supported by strength, flexibility, and coordination. The study provides practical evidence for more targeted volleyball instruction and physical education assessment.

Abstract

Effective badminton smash performance requires the integration of physical capacity, movement control, racket coordination, and the ability to generate a fast and accurate attacking stroke. This study examined the contribution of wrist flexibility and arm muscle strength to smash performance among players of Avanti Badminton Club Makassar. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design with a regression approach was used. The sample consisted of 40 badminton players, with complete valid data for all research variables. Wrist flexibility was measured using a flexiometer, arm muscle strength was measured using a 30-second push-up test, and smash performance was assessed using a badminton smash skill test. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Pearson correlation, simple regression, and multiple regression. The results showed that wrist flexibility contributed significantly to smash performance, R = 0.802, R² = 0.643, p < 0.001. Arm muscle strength also showed a significant contribution, R = 0.815, R² = 0.665, p < 0.001. Simultaneously, both predictors explained 74.3% of the variance in smash performance, R = 0.862, R² = 0.743, F = 53.600, p < 0.001. These findings indicate that badminton smash performance is supported by the interaction between wrist mobility and upper-limb strength. Training programs should therefore combine arm-strength development, wrist-flexibility exercises, and smash-specific coordination drills.
