Abstract

This qualitative study aims to explore the intrinsic literary aspects of "Laskar Pelangi" by Andrea Hirata, focusing on themes, character development, plot, Settings, language styles, narrative perspective, and moral values. Employing a research approach involving close textual analysis, thematic examination, character studies, linguistic nuances, and narrative perspectives, we dissected the multifaceted nature of the novel. The analysis revealed intricately developed characters, each embodying resilience and hope, while the narrative techniques, including vivid descriptions, dialogues, and cultural nuances, enriched the immersive experience. The thematic exploration highlighted the novel's profound messages about perseverance, the transformative power of education, and the enduring influence of dedicated mentors. Furthermore, the novel's language style use and narrative perspectives were found to enhance reader engagement and emotional connection. As a result, "Laskar Pelangi" emerged as a testament to the moral values of determination, camaraderie, and the pursuit of knowledge, resonating universally. These findings have significant implications for both literary scholarship and educational discourse, emphasizing the enduring relevance of the novel's themes as valuable educational resources. It also underscores the pivotal role of literature in conveying universal insights into the human condition and storytelling's power to inspire individuals facing adversity, while illuminating the impact of language style use and narrative perspective in enhancing the effectiveness of the literature.AbstractPenelitian kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengexplorasi  unsur-unsur intrinsik dari "Laskar Pelangi"  sebuah novel karya Andrea Hirata, dengan fokus pada tema, penokohan, alur cerita, gaya bahasa, sudut pandang naratif, dan nilai-nilai moral. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian yang melibatkan analisis teks yang mendalam, analysis tematik, studi karakter, nuansa linguistik, dan sudut pandang naratif, kami menguraikan sifat yang kompleks dari novelini.  Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa karakterpada novel  masing-masing menggambarkan ketahanan dan harapan, sementara teknik naratif, termasuk deskripsi yang jelas, dialog, dan nuansa budaya, memperkaya pengalaman yang mendalam. Eksplorasi tematis menyoroti pesan mendalam novel ini tentang ketekunan, kekuatan transformatif pendidikan, dan pengaruh yang berlangsung dari mentor yang berdedikasi. Selain itu, penggunaan gaya bahasa dan sudut pandang naratif dalam novel ini ditemukan meningkatkan keterlibatan pembaca dan koneksi emosional. Sebagai hasilnya, "Laskar Pelangi" muncul sebagai bukti nilai-nilai moral keteguhan, persaudaraan, dan pencarian pengetahuan, meresap secara universal. Temuan ini memiliki implikasi penting baik untuk penelitian sastra maupun wacana pendidikan, menekankan relevansi abadi tema-tema dalam novel ini sebagai sumber pendidikan berharga. Ini juga menggarisbawahi peran penting sastra dalam menyampaikan wawasan universal tentang kondisi manusia dan kekuatan cerita untuk menginspirasi individu yang menghadapi kesulitan, sambil menerangi dampak penggunaan gaya bahasa dan sudut pandang naratif dalam meningkatkan efektivitas karya sastra

Abstract

The student's ability to understand and use academic and research vocabulary was lacking. Therefore, this research tries to enhance the students' vocabulary achievement by applying Memrise and Quizlet Applications. This research applies Classroom Action Research using four procedures: Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. Researchers obtained data from tests and questionnaires. The results showed that vocabulary planting through the Memrise and Quizlet applications increased student achievement. In addition, students also showed a positive attitude towards the application of Memrise and Quizlet for vocabulary learning. Lecturers or teachers can use the Memrise and Quizlet Applications as a medium to motivate students and provide fun and independent learning. Vocabulary achievement improved after learning vocabulary using Memrise and Quizlet applications from the results presented above. This study also used the Memrise and Quizlet applications to instil vocabulary. Therefore, the researcher suggests that teachers or lecturers who teach use the Memrise and Quizlet applications as alternative media to instil word material in students in the long term.

Abstract

This study is a Quantitative study to examine the efficacy of Nearpod application in elevating the 38 tenth-grade students' reading comprehension mastery under the topic of narrative text at SMAN 1 Bitar. Pre-experimental research using a one-group pretest and post-test design was implemented. To obtain the data, the researchers utilized the test. Before being given to the participants, the validity and reliability of the test were examined. T-tests on paired samples were used to assess the data that was gathered by applying SPSS 25. The findings showed that students' comprehension of narrative texts was much improved by using the Nearpod application. The students' post-test score of 83.05. rose from their pre-test score of 74.13 in narrative text The student's learning results throughout the pre-and post-tests differed notably, according to the matched samples t-test, with a p-value of 0.000, which was less than 0.05, indicating statistical significance. In light of these results, it is advised that English teachers incorporate Nearpod into their teaching, particularly for reading instruction. the findings suggest that Nearpod positively impacts reading instruction. Implications include the potential of Nearpod for enhancing literacy skills and promoting student engagement. Future research could explore its effectiveness across diverse student populations and grade levels, as well as comparative studies to identify best practices in literacy instruction. By addressing these areas, future research can contribute to the advancement of technology-enhanced pedagogy.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 5 SDN Segoropuro, Kabupaten Pasuruan, dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran digital berupa kartu flashcard dan aplikasi Quizlet. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Juni hingga Agustus 2024 dan melibatkan 26 siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah pembelajaran berbasis teknologi, di mana siswa dikenalkan pada penggunaan flashcard digital yang diintegrasikan dengan aplikasi Quizlet untuk meningkatkan keterampilan kosakata. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris siswa, terlihat dari hasil tes pre-test dan post-test yang menunjukkan rata-rata peningkatan skor sebesar 35%. Selain itu, penggunaan teknologi digital dalam proses pembelajaran juga meningkatkan motivasi siswa untuk belajar secara mandiri. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi alternatif metode pengajaran yang lebih interaktif dan efektif dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru sekolah dasar dalam penggunaan platform pembelajaran berbasis game (gamification) untuk memperkaya kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 2–4 di Kabupaten Malang. Kegiatan berlangsung selama delapan minggu melalui empat tahapan utama: Penyuluhan, pelatihan, sosialisasi, dan pendampingan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman guru terhadap konsep gamifikasi, kemampuan teknis penggunaan platform seperti Kahoot, Quizizz, dan Wordwall, serta kreativitas dalam merancang pembelajaran interaktif. Siswa juga menunjukkan antusiasme dan partisipasi belajar yang lebih tinggi. Secara teoritis, hasil kegiatan ini mendukung teori motivasi belajar dan pendekatan konstruktivistik yang menekankan pentingnya pembelajaran aktif, interaktif, dan berbasis pengalaman. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini berkontribusi pada transformasi pedagogis guru SD dan memperkuat literasi digital dalam pendidikan dasar di era digital. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to enhance the competence of elementary school teachers in using game-based learning platforms (gamification) to enrich the English vocabulary of students in grades 2–4 in Malang Regency. The program was conducted over eight weeks through four main stages: counseling, training, dissemination, and mentoring. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding of the concept of gamification, their technical skills in using platforms such as Kahoot, Quizizz, and Wordwall, and their creativity in designing interactive learning activities. Students also demonstrated higher enthusiasm and participation in learning. Theoretically, the outcomes of this program support learning motivation theory and the constructivist approach, which emphasize the importance of active, interactive, and experience-based learning. Thus, this program contributes to the pedagogical transformation of elementary school teachers and strengthens digital literacy in primary education in the digital era.

Abstract

Vocabulary learning is a fundamental component of language mastery, as it underpins students’ ability to communicate effectively and comprehend texts. With the rapid advancement of technology, Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) has emerged as an innovative approach that enables flexible, accessible, and interactive learning experiences. However, despite its potential benefits, many university students still face challenges in expanding their English vocabulary due to limited study time, low motivation, and the lack of engaging learning resources. This study aims to explore university students’ experiences in learning English vocabulary through MALL. Employing a qualitative exploratory design, ten students from the Management Study Program at on of the private universities in Indonesia who were enrolled in an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course participated in the research. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participatory observations, then analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns and themes. The findings revealed five main themes: (1) flexibility of time and place in learning, (2) increased motivation and engagement through gamified features, (3) independent learning strategies in vocabulary acquisition, (4) technical challenges and digital distractions, and (5) the need for support from lecturers and the academic environment. Students valued the flexibility and autonomy MALL offered, as well as the motivation gained from interactive and gamified elements. Nevertheless, issues such as unstable internet connections and distractions from social media often hindered learning consistency. The study concludes that MALL enhances flexibility, motivation, and learner autonomy in vocabulary learning, yet its effectiveness depends on students’ self-discipline and institutional support. It underscores the essential role of lecturers in guiding and integrating MALL effectively into classroom instruction.
