AbstractStress experienced by patients with cancer may be resulted from the inability to overcome the problems which become the burdens in their mind and eventually creating stress In the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, 399 people are recorded in 2017 to suffer from cancer which will become the leading cause of death in Indonesia. Hence, this study was purposed to identify the correlation between coping mechanism and stress level in patients with cancer in the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, East Java branch. This analytical observational study was conducted by using cross sectional design. It involved 32 patients with cancer in which 32 patients were chosen by using total sampling technique. The independent variable was coping mechanism, whereas the dependent variable was stress level. Questionnaire was used to collect the data which were analyzed using Fisher’s exact test with the significance level or α = 0.05. The results of this study conducted to 32 respondents, most of them (78.6%) had adaptive coping mechanism, whereas most of them (40.6%) experienced severe level of stress. Moreover, the results of statistical test showed that the value of ρ = 0.000 which proved that coping mechanism was correlated with level of stress experienced by the patients in the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, East Java branch. The higher the maladaptive coping mechanism is, the higher the level of stress in patients with cancer. The health workers are suggested to be able to give them counseling. On the other hand, the patients with cancer should read, watch, and listen more to find out and avoid the causes of stress. Key words: coping mechanism, stress level.

Abstract

Uncontrolled fires can cause significant environmental damage, material losses, and casualties, making community preparedness crucial. In Kelutan Village, Nganjuk Regency, many residents have limited knowledge about fire prevention and management, particularly regarding land fires, which are common due to strong winds and long dry seasons. This study aims to analyze the impact of practice-based fire education on increasing community knowledge. A pre-experimental design with a One Group Pre-test - Post-test approach was used, involving 95 community leaders and village officials from Kelutan Village selected through purposive sampling. The independent variable was practice-based fire education, and the dependent variable was community knowledge. A questionnaire with 20 pre-test and post-test items, tested for validity and reliability, was used as the research instrument. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 72.6% of respondents had a moderate knowledge level before the intervention, which increased to 86.3% in the high category after receiving practice-based education. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < α), indicating a significant effect of practice-based fire education on community knowledge. The study concludes that hands-on fire education is more effective than theoretical methods in improving public understanding, which is essential for enhancing fire prevention and management preparedness. Village authorities are encouraged to conduct regular and comprehensive fire education programs to better prepare the community.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that requires lifestyle-based interventions, particularly dietary modification. Intermittent fasting has emerged as a promising approach; however, evidence of its effectiveness remains inconclusive. This research aims to determine how intermittent fasting, implemented as a non-pharmacological dietary strategy, influences metabolic regulation, body composition, and dietary behavior in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study was designed as a systematic literature review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, focusing on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2020 and 2025. Comprehensive literature searches were conducted across three primary databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ClinicalKey. Methodological quality was assessed using the Revised Cochrane Risk-of-Bias Tool (RoB 2), and data were extracted systematically and synthesized narratively. The search identified 382 articles, of which nine RCTs met the inclusion criteria. The results show that 6 out of 9 studies reported statistically significant reductions in HbA1c (p < 0.05), with reductions ranging from -0.91% to -1.9%. Significant weight loss was observed across most studies, ranging from 2.98 kg to 9.7 kg (p < 0.01). Furthermore, lipid profiles showed significant improvements, particularly in triglycerides (p < 0.05) and total cholesterol (p ≤ 0.023) in selected trials. However, none of the reviewed studies examined eating behavior traits, highlighting a research gap. Future studies should explore behavioral and adherence aspects to assess the long-term feasibility of intermittent fasting in diabetes care.
