Abstract

This article aimed to separate ilmenite (FeTiO3) mineral from tin tailing applying a single splitter IRMS (Induced Roll Magnetic Separator). Ilmenite mineral is the substantial main source for TiO2. This work used air table middling for feeding. The mineral components of middling feeding from air table using grain counting analysis were found as follows: cassiterite (48.61%), ilmenite (21.36%), monazite (18.56%), pyrite (4.60%), zircon (5.85%), quartz (0.71%), anatase (0.27%), and tourmaline (0.02%), It was found that electrical current and opening of single splitter affected the degree of separation addressing to ilmenite recovery and ilmenite grade. The finding showed that current of 15 Ampere and single splitter with opening 4.25 cm yielded ilmenite recovery more than 74%. The high grade ilmenite (90.46 %) and recovery of 29.38% was obtained using 5 Ampere  with single splitter opening of 1.0 cm. Up to date, the study on ilmenite separation from tailing only focused on the effect of current, however, the effect of single splitter magnetic separator  to enhance ilmenite recovery from other paramagnetic minerals such as monazite, siderite, xenotime and tourmaline has not yet been reported.

Abstract

Estimation process of precipitated mineral deposit is usually done by using conventional method which is only based on sample position. The accurate estimation method, that includes spatial and temporal continuity, is considered important, and a method that takes account of this continuity is Kriging Method. A study will be conducted by making laterite nickel zonation, based on degree of drill core (coring), while content appraisal and nickel resource comparison in block model will use Kriging Method. Data of this study is taken from southern block exploration of PT. Haltim, Wailukum, district of East Halmahera, North Maluku. Description method isused to analyse assay data, lithology, collar, and bore hole survey. Analysis method is done by using Surpac 6.3 software. Through block model result, it is found that the spread of nickel, ferrum, MgO, SiO2 and cobalt is in every percentage of the level. This method will generate experimental Variogram using lag value, nugget effect and sill that should be taken into account to make an accurate estimation result. The classification is done based on thickness and weighting of saprolite zone in southern block. The result of classification using sill method for saprolite zone is one third sill for measuring area of 35 meter, and two third sill for appointed area of 55 meter. For that reason, in this study area, for 50 meter gap of bore hole is classified as appointed area.

Abstract

Extraction of heavy metals from mineral concentrate applying leaching acids is a major issue due to simple, fast, and economical process. This article aims to present the application of acetic acid and sulfuric acid for lead (Pb) extraction from galena concentrate applying roasting (600oC and 60 min.) and peroxide oxidant (0.5 M) for 60 min. leaching process. Nowadays, lead has been broadly applied for batteries, besides for PVC tubes, chemicals, paint color, and alloys for joint. The peroxide increases the percentage of Pb extraction. This study shows the effect of acid concentrations (1.0 M, 1.5 M, and 2.0 M), temperatures (30, 50, and 70oC), and stirring speed (200, 400, and 600 rpm) on Pb extraction from galena. A particle size of galena ≤ 200 mesh after roasting has been used for leaching process. AAS has been used to determine Pb concentration in solution after leaching process. This study shows that acetic acid is a better leaching agent rather than sulfuric acid due to lead sulfate precipitation. Optimization result shows leaching with acetic acid achieved 35.64 ppm Pb extraction using 2.0 M acetic acid, 50oC, and stirring speed of 200 rpm. This study used low-cost acids as leaching agent for Pb recovery that can be viewed as a preliminary breakthrough in heavy metal recovery. The simple leaching technique looks promising for future application on heavy metal separation from mining mineral.

Abstract

Carbon monoxide (CO) gas is one of the harmful and toxic gases derived from the residue of blasting and incomplete combustion of mining equipment machines in underground mines. CO gas dilution is carried out with the intention of unsafe conditions in the mining area. The purpose of this study was to determine the decrease in CO gas based on the value of the diffusion coefficient and by making a 1:10 scale tunnel model with a 90° turning vent duct flow direction using an elbow according to the actual situation. XC 13 B and XC 13 NRTH in the Cikoneng block, PT Cibaliung Sumberdaya is used as a reference for the tunnel model. The study was carried out with variations in the position of the vent duct to determine the speed of decrease in the CO concentration tested. This study was conducted using secondary and primary data which is expected to get the results of the influence of the concentration of CO gas itself and the influence of vent duct placement on the direction of flow on the decrease in CO gas concentration.

Abstract

Land subsidence has long occurred around the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. It is important to know and deal with Land subsidence events which also cause various negative impacts. Aim: When large amounts of groundwater are withdrawn from certain types of rocks, such as fine-grained sediments, land subsidence occurs. The rock compacts because the water helps to keep the ground in place. When the water is removed, the rocks collapse in on themselves. The immediate impact is the building collapse around the Kota Tua of DKI Jakarta. Methodology and Results: The research method used is a quantitative descriptive survey method by observing the amount of land subsidence that occurs in the Kota Tua area and its surroundings. The results showed that there has been a vertical land subsidence that varies between 20-60 cm. Based on the results of the resistivity values and coordinates plotted on the Regional Geological Map (Jakarta and Kep Seribu), the research location is classified into Lithology: Clay, Sand Silt, Gravel, and Pebbles (Quartenary deposits). The phenomenon, land subsidence, is caused by a combination of various parameters, including natural consolidation of alluvial soils, excessive groundwater extraction, and also building loads from infrastructure development and tectonic factors. Conclusion, significance, and impact study: Knowing the value of land subsidence and its location is expected to support urban planning, basic infrastructure planning and development, housing, settlement planning, and local financial improvement in efforts to mitigate land subsidence disasters.

Abstract

The hilly area around Situ Rawa Gede is located in Sirnajaya Village, Sukamakmur District, Bogor Regency, with the existence of Situ Rawa Gede surrounded by hills extending from the south to the northwest. Landform changes are increasingly visible in the hilly areas around Situ Rawa Gede due to community gardening activities and coffee agro-tourism, and the opening of settlements causes topsoil to peel off, which is detrimental to the physical condition of the soil, can cause erosion and trigger mass movement of soil/rock. It is necessary to arrange land in the hilly area around Situ Rawa Gede to be appropriately organized. A zoning map of the vulnerability of ground motion is needed; from this map, it can be seen which areas have low to high soil vulnerability. Land management is one of them by making terracing which helps increase water infiltration into the soil and limiting surface runoff to minimize the risk of surface water erosion. This PkM activity provides a technical description of the concept of making a soil movement vulnerability zoning map to the community so that they understand the importance of maps of low to high soil vulnerability zones in their area in disaster mitigation efforts and through technical assistance related to the application of bench terraces and garden terraces so that they can be planted with plantation crops as ground cover is also for the safety of the community and visitors to coffee agro-tourism.

Abstract

All human activities inevitably produce waste. The amount of waste increases as the city grows. Sukmajaya District, Depok City is one of the districts that has the potential for very high waste accumulation. This area is a place for immigrants who work in Jakarta. This has a negative impact, namely the increase in the number of Final Disposal Sites (TPA) from year to year. The recycling process is a solution that can save energy and reduce landfill waste. The use of can waste as raw material in making alum or potassium aluminate sulfate K[Al(SO4)2.12H2O] is very relevant. The basic material used in making alum cans has the advantage of being more economical and can help reduce packaging can waste which has the potential to pollute the environment. The team held training in making alum minerals from used can waste in Sukmajaya District, Depok City. This activity aims to educate the public in utilizing used can waste into alum mineral products. People can use it to purify water in an environmentally friendly and economical way. The results of the training activities showed an increase in participants' awareness and skills in managing canned waste into value-added products. The number of training participants increased from 40% before training to 90% after training. Apart from that, participants' skills in making alum from used can waste also increased from 25% before the training to 85% after the training. It is hoped that this training can make a positive contribution in efforts to manage waste sustainably and protect the environment.

Abstract

The Trisakti University Community Service Program (PKM) was carried out in Cisarua Village, Nanggung District, Bogor Regency, West Java, in collaboration with the local Regional Government. Stakeholder partners served as facilitators for this project, which aimed to socialize and establish sustainable mining practices for miners and communities around gold mines. Cisarua Village, located in Nanggung Regency, is known for having potential mineral resources, particularly gold deposits, which are often collected by mining communities both individually and collectively. However, this mining activity has major negative effects, leading the government to stop it, one of which being its damaging environmental impact. Environmental issues and land conditions following gold mining provide significant risks and concerns, including mercury and cyanide contamination, which are harmful to human life and the surrounding environment. One of the most significant issues has been the lack of reclamation of mine holes caused by human mining activity. Based on these issues, the team demonstrated the public on good and correct mining practices (GMP). The team is collaborating with local communities and governments to develop ways to predict future implications of gold mining activities. PKM activities are carried out by offering materials and discussions that have proven effective in developing community knowledge. The survey of 25 respondents showed that a greater understanding of good mining practices. Survey results show that previously 61% of respondents did not understand about GMP. After implementing education and training through PKM, there was an increase of 11% in understanding of GMP. This shows the effectiveness of the program in increasing awareness and knowledge about good and correct mining practices among participants.

Abstract

The Cuckoo Search (CS) is a very fast and efficient global optimization method to locating the slip surface which carried out by iteration. However, the Grid Search (conventional method) method in 3D slope stability analysis takes longer than this method on the computation process. Slope stability analysis was performed using the 3D limit equilibrium method “Bishop” with Cuckoo Search of slip surface by maximizing iteration of the simulation and columns in X or Y. To ensure that the slip surface within the global minimum slip surface, the maximum iteration in CS was also specified from 40 to 1200. Based on maximum columns in X or Y, the safety factor value of the 3D CS results was then compared to the Grid Search results to determine the final 3D safety factor and the estimated volume of potential failure. The final 3D safety factor obtained from the average 3D safety factor (with maximum iteration 400, 800, 1000, and 1200) is about 2,01 with the average estimated volume of slope failure of 190.000 m3 that located at the north of the pit.
