Abstract

The success of seaweed cultivation is determined from the determination of the location. This is because the production and quality seaweed influenced by ecological factors including the condition of the substrate surface waters, water quality, climate, geographical bottom waters. Arakan villages in the District of South Minahasa regency become one of the centers of seaweed cultivation in the province of North Sulawesi. The specific objective of this study was obtained in the form of a map of suitability mapping seaweed cultivation areas; gathering data and information about the extent of the area, water capacity, area unit, and carrying water. The study was conducted in the waters of the village of Arakan, District Tatapaan, South Minahasa regency, North Sulawesi. When phase 3 study conducted every month from June to December in 2012. The analysis is based on space availability, suitability waters that support the cultivation of seaweed. Suitability space spatially waters using physical and chemical parameters of waters which is a prerequisite eligibility seaweed cultivation. Spatial observations by using a Geographic Information System (GIS) for the weights and scores in determining the suitability of land. Process is done through the preparation of spatial database and

Abstract

Title (Bahasa Indonesia): Pengaruh pupuk NPK [nitrogen, fosfor, kalium] terhadap pertumbuhan dan penanggulangan penyakit ‘white spot’ pada rumput laut Kappaphycus alvarezii This study aimed to analyze the effect of NPK fertilizer absorption on the growth of seaweed, Kappaphycus alvarezii, and the white spot disease prevention. This study could become a source of information for seaweed farmers to increase seaweed production through the use of NPK fertilizers. This study was conducted from January until March, 2014 in the waters of Toropot Village, the District of Bokan Islands, Banggai Laut. To know whether the different doses affect the white spot infection, ANOVA with Tukey's test was used. Results showed that all doses had the same potential to recover from white spot disease and heal faster than the control (no dose). The addition of nutrients N, P, and K at high dose could accelerate the recovery of the algae from white spot desease and increase the growth rate.

Abstract

Title (Bahasa Indonesia): Kondisi lingkungan perairan untuk budi daya ikan dengan sistem karamba jaring apung di Perairan Klaster Manalu, Kabupaten Kepulauan Sangihe Manalu and it surroundings cluster is a zone which is designatedas a development center for agropolitan and minapolitan region and as a marine and coastal aquaculture center which include Manalu Bay, South Tabukan sub-district, South East Tabukan sub-district, and Center Tabukan sub-district. Hangke,Sensahang/Ensahange, Talawe, Kalagheng, Mutung and Bembiha areasareincluded inthis cluster, although noresearch has been conducted to studythis area. Datacollected includewater quality parameters, data about convenience and risk factor. Data about convenience and risk factorwas collected by interview with persons who consider as those who know best about the site and do marine culture for living. Water quality parameters was collected by doing measurementonsalinity, temperature, disolved oxygen, visibility, pH, water depth and current velocity  in 4 representative areas.The collected data showthat convenience factor was high and risk factor waslow. Due to lowwater depth and lowvisibility, area 1and 2 was not recomended for futher development for marine culture with floating cage construction. Area 3 and 4 can be recomended for futher development because data result show good value.

Abstract

There are a large variety and quite abundant types of small pelagic fish that have high economic value in the Sulawesi Sea. One of which is the blue scad fish or commonly known as malalugis (Decapterus macarellus). This study aims to analyze and determine the status of scad fisheries management and to develop recommendations in the management of scad fisheries in the waters of Sulawesi Sea, North Sulawesi Province. The evaluation of fishery management status is carried out using multi-criteria analysis (MCA) through the development of composite index of each indicator of Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM). The results showed that, in general, the status of scad fisheries management in North Sulawesi Province, was in ‘good’ category, specifically reviewed from the domain of fish resources fall into the category of “medium”, habitat and ecosystem “good”, fishing techniques “good”, economy “not good”, social “medium” and institutional “good”. Management actions take precedence over domains that have “poor” indicator values. Priority management action is implemented in the economic domain, followed by the domain of fish resources, social, institutional and fishing techniques.Indonesian title: Pengelolaan perikanan ikan layang (Decapterus spp.) di perairan Laut Sulawesi, Provinsi Sulawesi Utara, menggunakan EAFM

Abstract

High concentrations of chlorophyll-a can be used to predict where fish gather. On the other hand, tropical cyclones are one of the triggering factors for vertical stirring and upwelling that cause fertility of waters. The Sangihe Island area is not an effective area for the formation of tropical cyclones. However, due to its geographical location with a tropical cyclone area and trajectory, the potential for disturbances caused by cyclones is impactful on Sangihe Island. The distribution of wind speed, salinity, sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a concentration can be detected by satellite remote sensing imagery. This study aims to analyze the impact of Tropical Cyclone Amang on the variability of wind speed, salinity, sea surface temperature and on the concentration of chlorophyll-a in Sangihe Island. This study useswind speed, salinity, sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a data during the Amang Tropical Cyclone (January 6-27, 2019) from the AQUA-MODIS satellite imagery. The results show that the relationship between wind speed and chlorophyll-a concentration has impact on other parameters where both parameters showed a strong correlation value. It was also showed on the relationship between sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a.However, the relationship between salinity and chlorophyll-a concentration showed lowest effect among those parameters.
