Abstract

AbstractIndonesia, as a country that does not have nuclear power plant (NPP), still requires research to examine public acceptance. Bangka Belitung is a candidate for NPP locations by BATAN, and the islands are predicted to become pioneers of new and renewable energy from a light mineral, thorium. Thus, research in Bangka Belitung aims to determine the public acceptance of an NPP development. This study used a mixed method, and the data were collected by survey with 1,500 respondents consisting of residents in Bangka Belitung. The quantitative analysis in this study was descriptive statistics and Chi-square test, while the qualitative analysis was with descriptive qualitative. The result showed that most Bangka Belitung people welcomed the NPP’s development plan. Total public acceptance in Bangka Belitung Province is 73.73 percent. Public perceptions agree with the benefits of NPP at 94.27 percent, the risks of NPP at 70.93 percent, the goodwill of NPP developers at 92.53 percent, and the competence of NPP operators at 93.53 percent. Regarding the distance, the neighbourhood wanted for this electric power plant to be 30 km away from the residential areas. There was no indication of the NIMBY phenomenon in Bangka Belitung, but there were still misperceptions in the community caused by perceptions of the risk of NPP. Due to the limited government role, the DPR RI must step in and facilitate community assistance while encouraging the government to devise effective strategies to develop a dissemination strategy to educate the benefits and risks of nuclear power plants.

Abstract. Relize or not, advertising is very close to human life. Mass media can display tens or even hundreds of advertisements every day. Therefore, effective and attractive advertisements are needed to attract customers. In general, advertising uses the hard selling method, but now it has turned into soft selling, which does not introduce or sell products directly. Therefore, this research will discuss the representation of customer loyalty in AQUA's advertisement "Sambut Kebaikan Ramadan Bersama AQUA". The method used is qualitative with Roland Barthes semiotic analysis. The results of this study show that AQUA's advertisement "Sambut Kebaikan Ramadan Bersama AQUA'' successfully portrays customer loyalty through the usage of strong signs and hidden meanings. At the denotative level, this AQUA advertisement presents an image of loyal AQUA customers who consume AQUA products joyfully during Ramadan. At the connotative level, this advertisement connects the usage of AQUA products with the values of kindness, spirituality, and brotherhood associated with Ramadan. At the mythological level, this AQUA advertisement builds a narrative that describes AQUA’s customers as part of a solid and loving community. In this context, customer loyalty is represented as a form of adherence to the values embraced by the community, which is signified by the consumption of AQUA’s products. Keywords: Advertisement, Representation, Loyalty, Semiotic

Abstract

Introduction: This article addressed the research problem: 'how the information and communication technology usage related to the poverty rate in Indonesia in 2020-2021, compared between provinces and rural-urban segmentation.’ This study contributed evidences for the development of digital literacy policies to answer previous research debates on the extent to which information and communication technology is a useful tool for reducing poverty, which is one of the Sustainable Development Goals. Methods: Using a quantitative approach, this study used the data from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics. Data is analyzed using product moment correlation to determine the relationship between information and communication technology penetration and the poverty rate, the results then are displayed using quadrant mapping. Findings: This study found variations in relations between provinces and rural-urban segmentations. High internet penetration and media use are not always accompanied by a low poverty index. In conclusion, the expansion of internet needs to be complemented by massive and systematic digital literacy education in order to effectively accelerate poverty reduction. Originality: This study meets the need for novelty as the issue discussed is related to poverty and information and communication technology penetration using spatial analysis. The novelty can be seen from the result of bibliometric analysis.

Abstract

The popularity of the game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) among Indonesian teenagers has encouraged many content creators to upload videos on social media platforms such as YouTube. One of the leading creators is Oura Gaming, a gaming YouTuber with 8.2 million subscribers. This large number of subscribers indicates that many people enjoy the content presented. However, most of the uploaded videos contain toxic elements that serve as entertainment for young viewers, potentially influencing their behavior in social interactions. This study aims to analyze Oura Gaming's YouTube content consumption patterns using Gerbner's cultivation theory, which emphasizes the role of mainstreaming and resonance in shaping individual social experiences. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to explore individuals' experiences after watching content containing toxic messages. Participants consisted of two students who were active MLBB players and loyal viewers of Oura Gaming.  The results showed that both participants had high viewing intensity, enjoyed the aggressiveness and toxic elements in the content, and tended to imitate the toxic language they watched in their daily social interactions. These findings indicate that the consumption of negatively charged content can affect individuals' communication patterns and social behavior. This research contributes to the understanding of the impact of digital media on adolescent behavior and provides insights for digital literacy policy development.
