Vocabulary has an important role in language learning at the college level, but in teaching practice, various obstacles are experienced by lecturers in implementing effective vocabulary learning. This study took place in Batam, Indonesia, and aims to investigate the English lecturers’ beliefs and practices in vocabulary learning; the phenomena of how they negotiate their teaching practices and what determines their choice of teaching methods when it comes to vocabulary learning. Five English lecturers from different universities were interviewed. The results of the interview were transcribed and analyzed based on the themes that appeared from data. The results showed that a requirement for practicality in class, curriculum, student atmosphere, and lecturers’ confidence in applying the right methods have effects on vocabulary learning. Lecturers have combined vocabulary learning with reading, writing, listening, and speaking in class. The main reference of a coursebook as the main guidance of the vocabulary learning varied between one class and another. All lecturers stated that they should find their own way to adopt external sources such as songs, vocabulary learning programs, and games to combine with their coursebook to beneficially meet the students’ preference. The new technology of teaching and learning is now part of classroom activities. Henceforth, this study concludes that the lecturers’ beliefs in the vocabulary learning approach are important. In practice, the lecturers need to combine them with various methods as the class situation do not always count on academic interests.

The goal of the research is to find out whether students’ synchronous learning correlates highly to their autonomous learning. Knowing that activities during synchronous learning must standardized into certain syllabus so that, learning process can be imitated into asynchronous learning nowadays. Therefore, studying the topic is still needed. This study used quantitative data that researchers obtained from numerous respondents. 100 participants, dominantly English Language Education students who experienced synchronous learning, already became active respondent to this study. A questionnaire comprised 15 items about how intensive students know the objective, specific or personal goal, negotiation, additional learning resources, checking their achievement and others during synchronous learning. The research applied a sequential exploration design in which quantitative data is collected and analyzed using SPSS 23. The result reveals that the sig value is 0.030 bigger () than 0.05. Thus, it shows a significant difference between the value of the synchronous relationship and autonomous learning when compared to the standards set. Next, it is reviewed further that the t value shows a positive score, meaning the research acquisition value is higher than the specified score. Synchronous learning has upgraded students’ autonomous learning. Therefore, from the results of the test, it can be concluded that there is a high correlation between synchronous and students' autonomous learning.

Therefore, this research aims to find out Junior High school students' motivation in learning pronunciation by using the Rosetta Stone in three dimensions of self-determination theory in terms of autonomy, competence and relatedness. The quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with 30 samples divided into two groups was used in this methodology. The experimental group received face-to-face instruction using Rosetta Stone, while the control group only received instruction using the drilling technique. Furthermore, the result of statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the groups in terms of total support for the experimental group. As a result, Rosetta Stone inspired students to participate in the pronunciation class, and they are enthusiastic and satisfied with the use of Rosetta Stone in the classroom.
