Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using  Shadowing Technique in improving pronunciation abilty of grade seven students of SMP Negeri 3 Palu. The research employed a quasi-experimental design, involving an experimental group and a control group, with a total of 62 students from each group (VII G and VII I). The sample was chosen using a cluster random sampling technique. A Pronunciation test was used as the instrument of the research. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS 24. The results indicated that Shadowing Technique was effective in improving seven grade students pronunciation ability. This was supported by the significant difference in learning outcomes between the pre-test and the post-test, and evidenced by a paired sample t-test with a value significance (2-tailed) of 0.00 < 0.05.

Abstract

Fix-Up Strategy is an approach used in learning to help students overcome difficulties or confusion in understanding the material being studied. This strategy aims to help students improve or "fix" their understanding when they feel unsure or confused about the information provided. The study aims to investigate whether the implementation of the fix-up approach can improve the reading comprehension skills of students attending SMA Negeri 7 Palu. This research utilizes a quasi-experimental design involving two distinct groups: the experimental group, which consists of 35 students, and the control group, comprising 36 individuals. The selection of participants follows a random cluster sampling method. Two assessments, including a preliminary evaluation and a follow-up examination, were administered to gather data. Subsequently, the collected data underwent analysis using paired difference testing, specifically employing the paired sample t-test. The findings of the study suggest that employing the fix-up strategy leads to enhanced reading comprehension among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Palu. The results of the paired sample t-test support this observation, indicating a significant difference in academic performance between the pre-test and post-test (two-tailed, p = 0.000 < 0.05).

Abstract

The article discusses Indonesia's education system and its implementation of the "Merdeka" curriculum, based on Ki Hadjar Dewantara's educational philosophy. This philosophy emphasizes guiding children's natural abilities toward safety and happiness while considering the laws of nature and the laws of the times. Education should be adapted to children's needs within their cultural and evolving context. However, preliminary findings indicated that teachers, especially those teaching Pancasila and Civic Education, still encounter difficulties implementing differentiated learning approaches. The study examines how Ki Hajar Dewantara's educational principles are applied through differentiated learning in Pancasila and Civic Education at junior high schools in Palu City, focusing on developing appropriate modules. This qualitative study used observation, interviews, and documentation for data collection, followed by data analysis. The research analyzed teachers' understanding and implementation of these concepts. Results showed that junior high school teachers in Palu City who teach Pancasila and Civic Education understand differentiated learning principles but need improvement in a few areas, including differentiated worksheets for group students according to their learning readiness and styles

Abstract

This research is aimed at finding out whether the use of folktales can improve the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Sigi. The sample was selected using the random sampling technique. The sample of this research were 54 students, which were divided into 27 students of class VIII B as an experimental group and 27 students of class VIII D as a control group. The data were collected through the reading test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the experimental group on the pre-test was 42 and the control group was 42. Then, the mean score of the post-test for the experimental group was 67 and the control group was 59. The data were analyzed statistically using the t-test formula with degrees of freedom Nx+Ny-2-27+27-2-52. The findings show that the t-counted value is 4.364 while the t-table value is 2.006. This means that the t-counted is higher than the t-table. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted. These findings answered the question from the problem formulation that the use of Folktale can improve reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Sigi. The implication of this finding is that Folktale can improve students' literacy, make learning more enjoyable, and boost their activeness and engagement in the learning process.

Abstract

Speaking proficiency is essential for academic and social development of EFL students. However, numerous students often struggle with limited vocabulary, grammatical deficiencies, and a lack of confidence which contribute to their speaking performance. Therefore, this study exposes the effectiveness of Information Gap Activities (IGA) to elevate students’ speaking skills – specifically in fluency and comprehensibility – of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Sigi. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups: an experimental class received IGA treatment and a control class taught by using conventional methods, with a total of 60 student participants. Both groups were given pre-tests and post-tests to measure their speaking ability before and after the treatment. Pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using SPSS. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group, with the mean score increasing from 41.67 to 67.50, compared to the control group’s increase from 41.67 to 50.56. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test (p = 0.000) and Mann-Whitney U Test (p = 0.000) confirmed this difference to be statistically significant. These findings suggest that Information Gap Activities can effectively enhance students’ speaking abilities, offering a communicative and interactive alternative to traditional instructional approaches.
