Abstract

Brazilian Arowana fish is one of the ornamental fish with high economic value that has the potential to be developed in Kubu Raya district. This fish is relatively easy to care for, but there are still many people who are not brave enough to maintain it due to a lack of knowledge. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt technology through PPM activities by utilizing collaboration with SMKs as well as upgrading the competencies that students currently have. With this activity can be an alternative to improve the community's economy. The purpose of this PPM activity is to improve the competence and abilities of students in applying environmentally friendly, efficient and effective Brazilian Arwana ornamental fish farming business technology in a sustainable manner and it is hoped that it can become an example for the surrounding ornamental fish cultivating community. The maintenance process for Brazilian Arowana during PPM activities went well. The time required for one maintenance cycle is 2 months. The containers used consist of 2 types, namely a tarpaulin tub as a container and an aquarium as a container for further maintenance. As many as 420 seeds were sown and given feed in the form of frozen worms and small shrimp. The SR level is 100% so that the harvest can be sold entirely with a profit of Rp. 5,130,000.- and the R/C ratio is 1.54. This PPM activity is expected to spur the community in developing Brazilian Arowana fish farming by applying appropriate technology that is applicable to increase the productivity of aquaculture products in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner which will ultimately increase the economic level of the community.

Abstract

Sekabuk Village is located in Mempawah Regency of Kalimantan Barat Province which has social forestry areas managed by local community, proven by lawfully legal certificate. In vicinity of those social forestry areas lies river that host various endemic species and also area of ponds owned by community that are hugely potential to be developed for fish farming business, one of which is nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). PPM activities purposes are to implement available technological inovation to build and develop independent economy of the community through transfer of aquaculture technology, especially nile tilapia farming in earthen ponds. Furthermore provide assistance in the process of farming until harvesting period. Also to financially analyze the feasibility of nile tilapia farming business continuation in Sekabuk Village. PPM activities were conducted for 5 months, from June through October 2023. The activities stages were survey, initial discussion with stakeholders, infrastructure preparation, aquaculture science and technological counseling, fry stocking, fish rearing with assistance until harvesting, marketing the product, and analyzing financially the feasibility of business continuation. As many as 2000 nile tilapia fry were stocked in the earthen pond and then rared for 4 months. The yields were 1630 fish (81,5%) where as many as 1050 fish have average weight of 200 gram each, with selling price at Rp. 25.000/kg to collectors and 210 kg of total production, and 580 fish with average weight of 150 gram each, with selling price at Rp. 20.000/kg to local community and 87 kg of total production. The financial analysis shows that the R/C value of the business amounted to 1,3 which indicate that the business continuation of nile tilapia farming in earthen pond is feasible.

Abstract

Abstract

Feed is an essential input in aquaculture activities. Feed affects the growth and survival of fish, which can increase the benefits of aquaculture activities. However, the leftover feed can accumulate organic matter from the digestive process and metabolic waste such as feces and inorganic materials such as ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in the waters. The more feed used, the more organic and inorganic waste accumulates in the aquaculture media. This study aims to analyze the effect of commercial pellet doses on the growth performance of red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) maintained in the floating net cage (KJA) system in the Mempawah River, West Kalimantan. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) method with four different feed dose treatments and three replications. Treatment 1 was the provision of a commercial pellet dose of 2%; Treatment 2 was the provision of a commercial pellet dose of 3%; Treatment 3 was the provision of a commercial pellet dose of 4%, and Treatment 4 was the provision of a commercial pellet dose of 5%. Tilapia seeds were maintained with the treatment for 40 days. The results showed that administering a 5% commercial pellet dose gave the best absolute, relative, and daily growth compared to other treatments. The survival rate for tilapia seeds maintained in the floating net cage system was best in treating 3% and 4% feed doses.

Abstract

Tilapia cultivation using floating net cages is widely carried out by the Mempawah community. However, one of the problems often experienced by tilapia fish farmers in KJA is the low survival rate and growth rate, which will impact the success of cultivation. The alternative solution offered is to conduct research to determine stocking density. Determination of stocking density is essential so that space utilization becomes more. Therefore, this study aims to obtain the optimal stocking density that provides tilapia fish’s best growth rate and survival rate. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications, namely (A) stocking density of 30 fish/m3, (B) stocking density of 50 fish/m3, (C) stocking density of 70 fish/m3, and (D) stocking density of 90 fish/m3. The variables collected were survival rate, growth rate, and feed conversion. The analysis results showed that the stocking density of 50 fish/m3 can provide the best growth rate, feed conversion ratio, and survival rate.
