Abstract

This research aims to: (1) 1. Find out the influence of knowledge about the world of work on the work readiness of class 1 West Sumatra (3) To determine the influence of knowledge about the world of work and experience of industrial work practices on the work readiness of class XII students majoring in machinery at SMK Negeri 1 West Sumatra. This research is ex-post facto research with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were class Data collection uses a questionnaire. Analysis prerequisite tests include normality tests, linearity tests and multicollinearity tests. The data analysis technique used is simple regression for the first and second hypotheses and multiple regression analysis for the third hypothesis. The results of this research are: (1) there is a positive and significant influence of knowledge about the working world on the work readiness of 12th-grade students majoring in Mechanical Engineering at SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat, as indicated by an rx1y value of 0.488, an r2x1y value of 0.238, and a t-value greater than the t-table value (4.216 > 2.002); (2) there is a positive and significant influence of industrial work practice experience on the work readiness of 12th-grade students majoring in Mechanical Engineering at SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat, as indicated by an rx2y value of 0.558, an r2x2y value of 0.311, and a t-value greater than the t-table value (5.072 > 2.002); (3) there is a positive and significant influence of knowledge about the working world and industrial work practice experience on the work readiness of 12th-grade students majoring in Mechanical Engineering at SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat, as indicated by an rx(1,2)y value of 0.598, an r2x(1,2)y value of 0.358, and an F-value greater than the F-table value (15.603 > 3.162).

Abstract

The role of education is crucial in individual self-development to overcome faced challenges. The learning process is a fundamental means to enhance this educational role. However, to support an effective learning process, appropriate media is needed to ensure that information received by students is more easily understood. At SMKS Dhuafa Padang, for the lathe machining technique subject, learning media is still limited to whiteboards, textbooks, and PowerPoint presentations, which create student dependency on teachers. The lack of visualization in learning results in students having difficulty understanding the material. Therefore, E-modules become a solution to improve the quality of lathe machining technique learning. E-modules allow students to learn independently with neatly and systematically arranged material, stronger visualization, and interactivity. In conducting this research, the researcher used a Research and Development (R&D) approach and employed the Instructional Development Institute (IDI) development procedure, which has three steps: Define (needs analysis), Develop (e-module media design), and Evaluate (Validity Evaluation). The research instrument used questionnaires filled out by validators (teachers and lecturers), and the research results showed a score of 0.925 for material validity and 0.903 for media validity, indicating that this e-module media is feasible and valid for application as learning media. It is hoped that with the existence of this E-module, it can be utilized as additional learning media in the Lathe Machining Technique learning process.

Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution presents difficulties that all countries must face head-on by using technology extensively in all aspects of daily life. Education is meant to provide students withithe knowledge they need toisucceed in various aspects of life. Answering the problems faced now, especially in the industrial field, SMK Negeri 5 padang plays a good role in shaping the characteriof students, in accordance with the vision of SMK Negeri 5 padang is to become an educational produce reliable human resources in the industrial era. Based on observations in machining practice research, it was found that space facilities, machining tools, and practice hours still need more attention to improve student skills. One example is the low level of student independence and discipline. This study aimsito examine the relationship between independence and discipline of grade XI students with machining practice at SMK Negeri 5 Padang. Based on the study, it was found significant relationship between independence and discipline in machining practice, as seen from the test results conducted during the study. A total of 33 xi gradeistudents of the Department ofpMechanical Engineering participated in the study in the January-June 2023/2024 academic year. The results showed a significant relationship between independence and discipline of class XI students at SMK N 5 . This is shownifrom the results of the correlation test with the value of r count> r table (0.567> 0.334) therefore the hypothesis in the study can be accepted.

Abstract

Energi listrik sangat penting dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, mendukung berbagai aktivitas yang bergantung pada listrik sebagai sumber utama. Indonesia memiliki tingkat konsumsi energi listrik yang tinggi, namun banyak wilayah masih belum terjangkau oleh jaringan listrik, menyebabkan berbagai masalah. Untuk mengatasi ini, perlu dikembangkan energi terbarukan yang dapat menggantikan bahan bakar fosil, seperti tenaga air. Pembangkit listrik tenaga air, khususnya mikrohidro, sangat ekonomis meskipun hanya mampu memenuhi kebutuhan beberapa rumah. Di Nagari Koto Hilalang, aliran sungai digunakan untuk pembangkit listrik mikrohidro. Pengujian menunjukkan bahwa daya dan efisiensi turbin bervariasi berdasarkan bukaan guide vane. Semakin kecil bukaan guide vane, semakin besar daya listrik yang dihasilkan. Daya optimum tercapai pada bukaan 25°, yaitu 760,36 Watt dengan efisiensi 77,50%. Sebaliknya, daya minimum dihasilkan pada bukaan 75°, yaitu 33,04 Watt dengan efisiensi 3,37%. Dari hasil perhitungan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa variasi bukaan guide vane mempengaruhi daya dan efisiensi turbin. Semakin kecil bukaan guide vane, semakin besar daya dan efisiensi yang dihasilkan. Nilai efisiensi optimum diperoleh pada bukaan 25°, yaitu 77,50%.

Abstract

Blended learning using Google Classroom is a combination of face-to-face and online learning that utilizes the Google Classroom platform to facilitate interactions between students and teachers outside the classroom. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of implementing blended learning using Google Classroom. The study employs a quantitative method with a descriptive research design. It involves 27 students from the Grade XI Industrial Mechanical Engineering program at SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires and documentation The questionnaire in this study assessed five aspects: the use of Google Classroom, interaction in learning, technological accessibility, comfort and satisfaction, and the effectiveness of blended learning. The analysis results for each assessed aspect were as follows: the use of Google Classroom at 76.66%, interaction in learning at 71.29%, technological accessibility at 75.37%, comfort and satisfaction at 70.74%, and the effectiveness of blended learning at 68.51%. This indicates that students’ overall response to the effectiveness of blended learning using Google Classroom was 73.19%, categorized as effective.

Abstract

Water turbines, particularly vortex turbines, represent a promising alternative energy source with significant potential for development. Vortex turbines are a relatively novel type of water turbine, offering ample opportunities for further research. This study aims to assess the efficiency of different blade variations, specifically 3, 4, and 5 blades. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis was conducted using Solidworks 2022 software. The simulation results indicate that the torque values for 3 blades, 4 blades, and 5 blades were 0.26 Nm, 3.02 Nm, and 4.96 Nm, respectively. Efficiency calculations were performed using a formula, yielding efficiencies of 0.9% for 3 blades, 11.91% for 4 blades, and 20.74% for 5 blades. These results suggest that higher blade counts lead to greater efficiency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran CNC melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Jigsaw. Subjek penelitian adalah 26 siswa kelas XI Teknik Permesinan SMK Negeri 1 Sumatera Barat pada semester genap tahun pelajaran 2024/2025. Model PTK yang digunakan mengacu pada John Elliot (1982), yang terdiri dari tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Penelitian dilakukan dalam dua siklus, dengan instrumen berupa lembar observasi aktivitas belajar, tes hasil belajar kognitif, dan penilaian praktik psikomotorik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model Jigsaw berhasil meningkatkan aktivitas belajar dan hasil belajar siswa. Ketuntasan klasikal aktivitas belajar siswa mencapai 84,8%, dan ketuntasan hasil belajar kognitif mencapai 84,6%, melampaui indikator keberhasilan yang ditetapkan sebesar 80%. Rata-rata hasil belajar meningkat dari 71 pada siklus I menjadi 78 pada siklus II, dengan jumlah siswa tuntas meningkat dari 17 menjadi 22 orang. Keterampilan psikomotorik juga mengalami peningkatan, dari skor rata-rata 71,5 pada siklus I menjadi 84,5 pada siklus II, dengan peningkatan sebesar 12,9 poin. Dengan demikian, model Kooperatif Tipe Jigsaw efektif dalam meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran CNC.

Abstract

Palm kernel shells have great potential as biomass and renewable energy sources. Its utilization has not been maximized which is only directly burned which causes air pollution. The accumulation of solid waste in the crude palm oil processing industry negatively impacts the environment. The research aims to determine the characteristics and quality of charcoal briquettes with palm kernel shell carbonization. The main findings of this study are the calorific value, water content, volatile matter, ash content, and fixed carbon in palm kernel shell charcoal briquettes with damar binder. The experimental research method was carried out by carbonizing the raw materials of palm kernel shell briquettes, applying various concentrations of damar binder mixtures. The technical parameters of briquette making were 10 MPa pressure, 60 mesh size, and different carbonization temperatures by furnace. The calorific and proximate were empirically measured by using a bomb calorimeter. This research produced palm kernel shell charcoal briquettes with a calorific value of 30.72 MJ/kg at a carbonization temperature of 500oC and concentration of 85%:15%, a moisture content of 5.18%, volatile matter of 32.72%, ash content of 2.81%, and fixed carbon of 57.90%. Palm kernel shell charcoal briquetting technology is potentially a recommended alternative solid fuel. Consequently, developing renewable energy that is environmentally friendly leads to achieve sustainable energy security. By utilizing waste, the negative impacts on the environment can be overcome and energy needs are also resolved.

Abstract

The hydroponic installation in the hydroponic community of Matur District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, faces a major problem with a crop failure rate reaching 30%-35%. This issue is primarily caused by disruptions in nutrient flow due to the lack of continuous electricity, which affects pump operation. To address this problem, efforts are needed to ensure that the nutrient flow to the plants is maintained. The aim of this activity is to assist the hydroponic community in increasing plant production through the application of innovative technology. The solution implemented is the use of hybrid power generation system technology, integrating Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and PLN electricity. This system ensures that water pumps operate optimally, even at night or during bad weather. The implementation of this technology has been completed and directly tested. The pump is capable of delivering nutrients to all planting holes. The performance testing of the hybrid power generation system was conducted in the laboratory and at partner locations. The results of the system testing show that the voltage values meet the load requirements, with a voltage difference still within the tolerance range of 2.2% - 3.3%, thus not disrupting the motor's performance. The energy source switching time is <4 seconds, specifically 0.6 seconds from the solar power plant (PLTS) to the national grid (PLN) and 3.4 seconds in the opposite direction. This transition indicates that the hybrid power generation system operates efficiently, with pumps and lighting functioning well. Thus, it is expected that this system can significantly increase the productivity of hydroponic plants and boost the income of the hydroponic community.

Abstract

The Vocational Pedagogy course is an important factor in supporting students' teaching readiness. Observation shows that PLK students have a gap in teaching readiness even though they have taken Vocational Pedagogy courses. This study describes the teaching readiness of students in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Padang State University and analyzes the effect of the course on teaching readiness. The study employed a causal quantitative approach, surveying 92 students from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts, selected via Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive analysis and simple linear regression. The results showed that students' mastery of the Vocational Pedagogy course was high, with an average score of 4.5. Students' teaching readiness was also in the "ready" category, with an average score of 4.5. Hypothesis testing results show that vocational pedagogy courses positively and significantly impact student teaching readiness. The coefficient of determination (R-square) is 0.545, meaning 54.5% of teaching readiness variables are influenced by vocational pedagogy courses, while other factors influence the rest. This study concludes that Vocational Pedagogy courses significantly and positively impact teaching readiness among students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at FT-UNP. Micro teaching is a crucial factor in improving teaching readiness in this course.
