Abstract

Research on mathematical communication skills has a background on the importance of student's ability to organize ideas and thoughts when solving problems. This study aimed to determine students' mathematical communication abilities on number pattern material through learning with the RME approach at one of the Banda Aceh Middle Schools. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects were 24 students, and three students were interviewed. Data was collected through interviews, which were analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research showed that mathematical communication skills through learning with the RME approach for number pattern material experienced good development. Students in the high and medium categories can master drawing, written text, and mathematical expression indicators. Students in the low category can master drawing and mathematical expression indicators. The results showed that students experienced problems communicating mathematically in conveying ideas orally and in writing. As a result, an error occurred in solving the problem. This research is expected to be a reference for improving students' mathematical communication skills during the learning process.

Abstract

Pembelajaran Abad ke-21 umumnya sudah berbasis keterampilan serta teknologi yang menjadi tantangan bagi dunia pendidikan di Indonesia terutama menyangkut kreativitas. Pendekatan STEAM dapat mendorong aspek perkembangan kreativitas anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan kreativitas anak pada anak usia dini melalui implementasi pembelajaran berbasis STEAM. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah tindakan kelas. Data diperoleh melalui observasi dan unjuk kerja. Tindakan yang dilakukan berupa pembelajaran berbasis STEAM. Kegiatan main dilakukan dengan kegiatan 5M sesuai tema, menggunakan alat dan bahan yang telah tersedia, menyusun, membentuk, merancang, mewarnai, membuat kerajinan tangan sesuai imajinasi anak, membilang banyak benda, mengklasifikasi benda, dan menyusun pola. Hasil tindakan diperoleh tujuh dari Sembilan orang anak mencapai kategori BSB dalam perkembangan kemampuan kreativitas yaitu anak  dapat membuat suatu kerajinan tangan,  menggambar, dan mewarnai sesuai  imajinasi anak tanpa adanya bantuan dari guru.

Abstract

Logical mathematical intelligence and learning independence are two important aspects that can be crucial for students' learning success. This study aims to: (1) determine the relationship between logical mathematical intelligence and students' mathematics learning outcomes; (2) determine the relationship between learning independence and students' mathematics learning outcomes; (3) determine the relationship between logical mathematical intelligence and learning independence together with students' mathematics learning outcomes. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational research type. The population of this study were all X1 classes in SMA Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. The sample in this study were students of class XI-EB2, which were selected using simple random sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and tests. The data analysis technique uses simple correlation analysis, multiple correlation, t-test and F-test after the test conditions are met. The results showed that: (1) logical mathematical intelligence with students' mathematics learning outcomes has a positive and significant relationship of 30.04%; (2) learning independence with students' mathematics learning outcomes has a positive and significant relationship of 29.99%; and (3) logical mathematical intelligence and learning independence together have a positive and significant relationship with students' mathematics learning outcomes of 26.5%.
