Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the differences and the similarity of The Break Subtype of Affect-H in grammatical and semantical construction. This research use descriptive qualitative method. Primary data are the data in English and Buginese. To collect the data in English the researcher use C Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and to collect data in Buginese language, the researcher recorded some native speakers of Buginese while using the break verbs in Buginese language. The secondary data are the data that were taken from journals, e-books, and articles. The collected data were analyzed by using Dixon’s theory of Break Subtype of Affect-H. The result of this research shows that there are 14 words in Buginese that are identical with the “Break” verb. They are mappakkasolang, ma’jemmu’, mapperra’, maruttung, massope/makkape’, mappue’, mappacippe, mappareppa’, malleppoang, mappa’bettu, mappaleppo’, mappaddempung, and ma’bettu. Construction I of break verb have the same meaning as construction II of mappakkasolang verb. They both means that someone break something by using another instrument. Construction II of break verb and mappakkasolang verb have different meanings. The sentence in Buginese means that someone break something on the table, but no conclusion can be taken about how someone broke the thing. As for the sentence in English it is obvious that someone accidentally put his/her nail inside a piece of wood and break it. Construction III of break verb is applicable but in the other hand, construction III of mappakkasolang verb is not a common way of saying that something is broken because another thing accidentally break it, as in Buginese sentence the role of breaking something is usually done by human, animals, disaster, or weather.

Abstract

Slang is a form of language, expressions, or specialized language usage commonly found in informal conversations, particularly within specific groups. Fathia Izzati, known as "kittendust," is a YouTube content creator with 695,000 subscribers. In her YouTube account, Fathia uploads videos related to English language learning terms in daily life, often incorporating slang words. This research aims to comprehend the meanings and processes of word formation in slang used by Fathia Izzati in her videos. The research methodology is descriptive qualitative, referencing George Yule's (2010) theories on slang word formation processes. Data were obtained from 15 videos uploaded by Fathia Izzati between November 2021 and December 2022. The findings reveal that out of Yule's ten slang and word formation theories, only five are reflected in the analyzed videos. Blending emerges as the most common method for creating new words, constituting 39.24% of all new terms. Other prevalent methods include doubling (34.18%) and halving (18.99%). Clipping accounts for 5.06%, while acronyms are the least common, comprising only 2.53%. This research provides insights into the use of slang by Fathia Izzati within the context of English language learning on YouTube.

Abstract

Some training programs had been conducted to improve students’ soft skills during their study at the State of Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Lhokseumawe, but there was still a lack of consensus on the most effective approaches. This study aimed at increasing students' and graduates’ quality using specific approaches including soft skills training. The population of the research was all English lecturers and All the Students in the first semester who took English Subject at IAIN Lhokseumawe. The sample of this research was four English lecturers and 80 students from four Faculties of IAIN Lhokseumawe. Research and Development (R&D) was conducted to fulfil the needs of the research problems found in the preliminary study. Two kinds of products were developed by researchers namely hardware and software products, prepared, provided and applied by the lecturers. The data was collected using Focus Group Discussions and questionnaires. The data were analyzed quantitatively using SPSS. The result of the tryout of the product developed showed that conducting soft skill training can increase the students’ soft skills at IAIN Lhokseumawe. It was proved that the value of t-count = 24.623 > t-table = 1.66412. It can be understood that soft skills training can bring a significant effect to change university students’ soft skills. It can be applied continuously in English and other classes utilizing products developed to show the sustainability of the university program for getting better quality.

Abstract

Misuse of drugs among adolescents is increasingly affected, including in rural areas such as Polenga Village, Watubangga Sub-district, Kolaka Regency. Teenagers, especially junior high school students, are very vulnerable to the negative influence of drugs due to a lack of knowledge and information related to the dangers of drugs. A Community Service Program (PKM) of Higher Education Excellence on the dangers of drugs is needed to increase students' awareness of the threat of drugs and encourage their prevention. This PKM program aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the types of drugs, the adverse effects of use, and prevention strategies. This evaluation and monitoring activity was carried out using lecture methods, interactive discussions, and distribution of educational materials. Based on the evaluation, this activity succeeded in increasing students' understanding of the dangers of drugs and encouraging positive behavior to stay away from drugs. It is hoped that this activity can be sustainable and scaled up to cover more schools and communities in other areas.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Analisis bibliometrik adalah metode untuk mengeksplorasi sejumlah data ilmiah. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tren penggunaan teori Uses and Gratifications, mengidentifikasi adanya hubungan antar konsep keilmuan, serta mengetahui jaringan penggunaan teori berdasarkan kata kunci (co-occurrence) dalam kurun waktu 10 (sepuluh) tahun, dari tahun 2013 – 2023. Metode: Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode bibliometrik. Sedangkan untuk menganalisis dan memvisualisasikan database yang diperoleh dari Scopus, penulis menggunakan Microsoft Excel dan VOSviewer. Hasil dan Pembahasan: Data menunjukkan terdapat 268 artikel yang membahas penggunaan teori ini. Hasil analisis diawali dengan tren tahun publikasi terbanyak, dan tahun 2023 menjadi tahun terbanyak penggunaan teori ini sebanyak 38 artikel. Selanjutnya, data menunjukkan Amerika Serikat dan Spanyol menjadi negara teratas yang paling banyak menggunakan teori ini. Secara subjek ilmu kategori Social Sciences mendominasi penggunaan teori tersebut dengan persentase sebesar 55.3%, namun teori ini juga ditemukan dalam berbagai subjek ilmu lainnya. Pemetaan perkembangan publikasi berdasarkan kata kunci (co-occurrence) mengidentifikasikan teori Uses and Gratifications dalam tujuh cluster yang saling berkaitan. Dapat diketahui bahwa kata kunci yang memiliki kerapatan yang tinggi dengan teori yang diteliti adalah social media. Meskipun teori ini berfokus pada pengguna media (audiens) dan telah ada sejak tahun 1974, namun perkembangan zaman dan teknologi yang kemudian melahirkan berbagai media baru menjadi peluang untuk dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of self-management techniques in eliminating academic procrastination in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak. The research method used is quantitative in the form of a Pre-Experimental Design research with a Pre-test – Post-test One Group Design research design. The total population is 198 students. The sampling technique used was the purposive sampling technique, the sample size was 12 students with high levels of procrastination. Based on the calculations, the average pre-test before being given treatment was 97 and the post-test after being given treatment was 59. Then, the T count was obtained using the Paired Sample T-test sample, namely 18,709 with a sig. (2 tailed) 0.00 <0.05 which means H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, thus there is a significant difference in student academic procrastination before and after being given Self Management. So it can be concluded that the Self Management technique is effective for eliminating academic procrastination in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak

Abstract

This research aims to examine the relationship between the company life cycle and the comparability of financial reports which is moderated by information asymmetry. The sample consist of non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2016-2022 period. The data were obtained from the company’s annual reports and from  Thomsonreuters. The total number of companies sampled are 219 companies. The results showed that companies in the introduction, growth, and mature stages, had a higher level of financial report comparability, while companies in the decline and shake-out stages had a lower level of financial report comparability. Our findings also suggest that information asymmetry weakens the relationship between firm life cycle stage and financial report comparability. This means that when a company is in the mature life cycle stage, it has higher comparability than other life cycle stages, but the relationship between the company's position in its life cycle stage is weakened by the high asymmetry value.

Abstract

Analisis mengenai munculnya nilai tujuan mulia atau noble purpose atau tujuan mulia dalam iklan masih jarang diperbincangkan. Padahal noble purpose menjadi nilai yang kehadirannya mampu menangkap perhatian audiens dengan baik, tanpa selalu menempatkan audiens dalam posisi pasif. Keberadaan nilai ini menjadi penting jika mengingat banyaknya perusahaan yang menyebarkan iklan berbasis profit semata. Iklan Thailand seperti Unsung Hero pada 2014 menjadi contoh paling nyata bagaimana noble purpose dari perusahaan seperti Thai Life Insurance sukses bekerja. Penelitian ini membedah 14 adegan dan 2 tangkap layar komentar dengan tujuan memberikan gambaran secara keseluruhan tentang usaha Thai Life Insurance memasukkan noble purpose dalam iklannya. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dan analisis deskriptif. Hasilnya, noble purpose yang diperlihatkan oleh Thai Life Insurance dalam iklannnya terlihat dalam akumulasi perbuatan baik dan positif yang dilakukan oleh pemeran utama. Pembahasan dibagi menjadi tiga kategori besar; mulai dari bagian awal, bagian klimaks, dan bagian akhir. Diperlihatkan scene tokoh utama menempatkan tumbuhan yang hampir mati di bawah aliran air yang membasahinya hingga melihat anak yang dia sedekahi tiap hari bisa bersekolah. Semua adegan tersebut berhasil mendorong audiens iklan ini melakukan tindakan baik dalam kesehariannya yang dibuktikan dari komentar mereka dalam video Youtube Unsung Hero 2014. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa perusahaan mampu mendapat tempat tersendiri dalam benak audiens jika mempertimbangkan noble purpose sebagai sesuatu yang tidak kalah pentingnya diperlihatkan dalam iklan. Tidak hanya mengejar profit, tapi juga nilai kebaikan bagi audiens. Kontribusi dalam penelitian ini datang dari berkembangnya wawasan dalam melihat perusahaan yang ternyata memiliki pilihan untuk menampilkan iklan dengan mengedepankan noble purpose yang mereka punya lewat visualisasi dan narasi yang ditampilkan. Saran bagi penelitian selanjutnya bisa menjangkau audiens secara langsung lewat studi resepsi guna menyesuaikan temuan dengan fakta yang terjadi di lapangan.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di MAN 3 Pekanbaru dengan tujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa mengenai bentuk sediaan obat yang tidak membatalkan puasa. Isu yang melatarbelakangi kegiatan ini adalah masih rendahnya pemahaman masyarakat, khususnya remaja, terhadap jenis obat yang aman digunakan selama Ramadan sehingga berpotensi menurunkan kepatuhan pengobatan. Metode yang digunakan adalah penyuluhan kesehatan melalui media brosur dan presentasi serta pemberian kuesioner pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan yang signifikan, ditandai dengan kenaikan kategori pengetahuan baik dari 47,06% pada pre-test menjadi 94,12% pada post-test dengan uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan nilai p=0,000 (p<0,05). Hal ini membuktikan bahwa edukasi kesehatan melalui media cetak dan presentasi efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa mengenai sediaan obat yang diperbolehkan saat berpuasa.
