Abstract

Community service activities are one form of implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education which aims to have a direct impact on improving the quality of life of the community. AMNI Maritime University conducted community service activities in Bajumulyo Village, Juwana District, Pati Regency, as a form of support for the coastal community economic empowerment program launched by the Pati Regency Government. This activity involved lecturers, students/cadets, and the local community in an active and collaborative manner. The enthusiasm of the Bajumulyo Village community in participating in various series of activities demonstrated the need and awareness of the importance of technological adaptation, especially in terms of digitalizing the marketing of fish catches. The main objective of this activity was to increase the income of fishing groups through the use of digital media as a means of promotion and distribution of marine products. The method of implementation of the activity was carried out through a participatory approach in the form of direct training and coaching, field observations, interviews with local fishermen, and literature studies to strengthen the conceptual framework and practices in the field. Training materials included digital marketing strategies, the use of e-commerce platforms, social media, and attractive fishery product packaging techniques. Indicators of the success of this program were an increase in fishermen's ability to use digital technology to market their products and an increase in the income of fishing families after participating in the program. Observations indicate that this training has had a positive impact on community understanding of the importance of digitalization in marketing fish catches.

Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the multifaceted challenges Indonesian maritime cadets face in mastering Maritime English (ME) terminologies. It aims to synthesize the linguistic, psychological, and pedagogical barriers contributing to the persistent gap between international proficiency standards and cadet performance, and to evaluate evidence-based interventions. A qualitative literature review was conducted, synthesizing findings from peer-reviewed research published since 2019, with a focus on Indonesian Maritime Education and Training (MET) institutions. The findings reveal a complex, interconnected system of challenges. Cadets' difficulties are rooted in foundational linguistic deficiencies, particularly in vocabulary and pronunciation, which are significantly exacerbated by predictable first-language (L1) interference from Bahasa Indonesia. These struggles fuel a debilitating psychological cycle of communication apprehension and low confidence. This cycle is perpetuated by a pedagogical ecosystem often characterized by a "curriculum-reality chasm," outdated teaching methods, and a lack of qualified instructors. Conversely, the review identifies significant positive outcomes from implementing Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) and high-fidelity simulator-based training, which effectively bridge the gap between classroom theory and professional practice. This study contributes a holistic framework that connects these disparate challenges into a coherent system, providing actionable recommendations for key stakeholders. The paper's novelty lies in its synthesis of recent, context-specific research to inform a targeted strategy for closing the ME proficiency gap, ultimately enhancing the safety and global competitiveness of Indonesian seafarers.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in maritime communication within the Indonesian context, where engine room communication typically involves a hybrid of Bahasa Indonesia and unstandardized English technical terms. While international regulations like the Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) mandate English, they do not account for this prevalent code-mixing practice, creating significant risks of miscommunication linked to maritime incidents. To mitigate these risks, this research developed a specialized, corpus-based Maritime English dictionary for Indonesian Engine Room Crew (ERC). Adopting a qualitative, corpus-aided lexicographic design, the study compiled and analyzed a corpus of authentic Indonesian engine-room texts including logbooks and technical manuals, to identify high-frequency English technical terms and their contextual usage patterns. The findings confirm the existence of a core lexicon of English terms that are systematically embedded into formulaic Bahasa Indonesia phrases, representing the functional norm of technical discourse. The resulting thematically structured dictionary, validated by subject matter experts, serves as a practical tool to standardize this critical vocabulary. The study's novelty lies in its dedicated focus on this hybrid linguistic domain, aiming to enhance communication clarity, operational safety, and the effectiveness of Maritime English training for Indonesian marine engineering personnel.

Abstract

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) is an escalating global health issue, particularly with the rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB), which complicate treatment and control efforts. Resistance to both first-line and second-line drugs weakens the effectiveness of standard WHO-recommended therapies, while alternative drugs can cause severe side effects and reduce patient adherence. This study aims to explore the integration of bioinformatics and pharmacogenomics in supporting personalized TB treatment to improve therapeutic success and reduce the risk of further resistance. The research employed a laboratory-based experimental design with a bioinformatics approach, involving TB patients with clinical evidence of drug resistance. Clinical samples were analyzed through whole genome sequencing to identify gene mutations associated with resistance, followed by pharmacogenomic mapping to predict pharmacological responses based on patients’ genetic variations. The results revealed several specific gene mutations consistently linked to resistance and produced individualized therapeutic recommendations that were more targeted than standard protocols. Effectiveness evaluation demonstrated that genome-based personalized therapy yielded higher treatment success rates, faster recovery times, and lower rates of subsequent resistance. These findings highlight the significant potential of precision medicine in TB management, particularly for resistant cases that are difficult to treat with conventional approaches. In conclusion, the integration of bioinformatics and pharmacogenomics plays an essential role in strengthening TB treatment strategies through a personalized, adaptive, effective, and sustainable approach. Nevertheless, its implementation still faces challenges such as high costs, limited infrastructure, and the need for clear regulations regarding the use of patients’ genomic data.
