Abstract

The issue of waste burning in Mamboro Barat Village remains a serious environmental concern, particularly due to limited access to adequate waste collection services and a lack of public awareness regarding the negative impacts of such practices. This community service initiative aims to enhance public knowledge and skills in environmentally friendly organic waste management through education and training in composting. The activity was conducted on 5 June 2025 and targeted the general public as well as participants of the Padat Karya programme. The implementation method was divided into three stages: preparation (coordination, material development, and logistics preparation), implementation (pre-test administration, educational lectures using PowerPoint presentations, composting training using vegetable scraps and dry leaves, and technical guidance), and evaluation (post-test to measure knowledge improvement). A total of 35 participants attended the entire series of activities. The pre-test results showed an average score of 59.66, which increased to 79.69 in the post-test, with an average improvement of 20.03 points. In addition to knowledge enhancement, participants also gained practical skills in processing organic waste into compost and increased awareness of the importance of sustainable waste management. Students actively participated as mentors and facilitators, strengthening the connection between educational institutions and the community. This activity made a positive contribution to fostering environmentally friendly behaviour through direct community involvement and capacity building. Active community participation in education and training has proven effective in driving behavioural change and opening opportunities for the development of community-based waste management systems in the future.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia in Indonesian adolescent girls reaches 15.5%. Blood supplement tablets are still not accepted by young women. This study was conducted to evaluate the acceptability and iron content of Keloreal. An experimental method was applied, utilizing a hedonic scale to assess attributes of taste, aroma, color, and texture, and the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method to determine iron content in the best formula. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The MS0 formulation received the highest overall hedonic scores. However, among the two treatment formulations, MS2 was more acceptable to the panelists due to its milder bitterness and less prominent moringa flavor, leading to better acceptance compared to MS1.  Iron levels measured using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method were 0.0596 mg/g for the MS2 formulation and 0.0756 mg/g for the control (MS0). Despite the lower iron concentration, MS2 is considered a potential alternative snack due to its elevated levels of complementary micronutrients that play a synergistic role in supporting iron metabolism and erythropoiesis.

Abstract

Stunting among children under two years old remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in Central Sulawesi, where the 2024 prevalence reached 26.1%, exceeding the national rate of 19.8%. This study aimed to analyze disparities in stunting determinants and identify effective innovations for reduction using an ecological analytic design combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were derived from the 2024 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI), district stunting dashboards, and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders in Sigi District (high prevalence, 33.0%) and Tojo Una-Una District (low prevalence, 16.5%). Results showed that stunting in Sigi was associated with limited access to health services, low immunization coverage, poor sanitation, low maternal education, minimal funding for specific programs (1.33%), and post-disaster challenges. In contrast, Tojo Una-Una achieved >90% essential service coverage, strong family mentoring by Family Assistance Teams (TPK), and adequate program allocation (15.03%) through innovations such as the Dapur Sehat Atasi Stunting (DASHAT) program and mobile clinics. Effective stunting reduction requires integrating specific nutrition actions with sensitive interventions addressing sanitation, education, and economic empowerment. Strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration, digital data monitoring (e-PPGBM), and replication of Tojo Una-Una’s best practices are critical to achieving the 2024 RPJMN target and supporting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
