Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Word Square media in improving students’ Arabic writing skills. Writing in Arabic requires structured, engaging, and student-centered learning strategies to enhance learners' outcomes. However, traditional methods often fail to stimulate students’ interest and competence in Arabic writing. This quantitative research employed a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design involving 22 eleventh-grade students. Data were collected through writing tests administered before and after the implementation of Word Square media. The objective was to measure the extent to which the media could enhance students’ writing performance. Descriptive statistics showed a substantial improvement in students’ average scores from 66.05 in the pretest to 81.77 in the posttest. There were also consistent increases in minimum, maximum, and standard deviation values. The Shapiro-Wilk test indicated normal data distribution with significance values of 0.584 (pretest) and 0.147 (posttest), both greater than 0.05. The paired sample t-test showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000, which is less than 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The findings confirm that Word Square media is effective in enhancing students’ Arabic writing skills. The media enables students to engage in learning interactively, enjoyably, and collaboratively. Thus, Word Square can be considered a valuable instructional tool to be integrated into Arabic language learning to boost students’ writing performance.

The development of technology in the world of education encourages the development of innovative learning media that can transform abstract materials into more concrete ones and encourage student involvement. Objective: The objective of this study is to develop a Balaghah learning module based on the case method that is feasible, practical, and effective to improve students' understanding of Balaghah science. Method: This study is a development research using the ADDIE development model. This study involved 76 students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program, Makassar State University, who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in this study include interviews, validation, observation for the implementation of learning, and Balaghah understanding tests. Data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics and inferential tests, and supported by qualitative analysis. Findings: Our research findings indicate that the developed case method-based Balaghah learning module is valid, practical, and effective in improving students' understanding of Balaghah. The feasibility of this case method-based Balaghah learning module is demonstrated through assessments by media experts (91%) and material experts (95%). The practicality of the case method-based Balaghah learning module is supported by lecturers’ assessment (90%), small-scale trials (92%), and large-scale trials (91%). In addition, the effectiveness analysis using a quasi-experimental design produced a t-test of 5.18 and a significance value less than 0.05. Meanwhile, the effect size of (d = 2.45; P < 0.05) indicates a strong impact. Conclusion: The case method-based Balaghah learning module has proven effective in improving students' understanding of Balaghah. Integrating a case method-based approach into Balaghah teaching can be an innovative strategy for making learning more concrete, contextual, and meaningful. Keywords: arabic, balaghah, case method, learning module.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the practical implementation of the national Arabic language curriculum based on the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs (KMA) Number 183 of 2019 in the context of pesantren-based madrasahs, particularly at MA Miftahul Ulum Al-Azizah. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through classroom observation, interviews with teachers, and analysis of curriculum documentation. The results of the study show that (1) Madrasah Aliyah Miftahul Ulum Al-Azizah formally adopts the national curriculum and uses the textbook “Ayo Fasih Berbahasa Arab” (Let's Be Fluent in Arabic), but its implementation is adjusted due to the institution's ban on the use of digital devices. (2) To overcome these limitations, teachers apply a spiral-Hybrid model that integrates the modern curriculum with classical Islamic texts (turats) such as Al-Jurumiyyah and Alfiyyah Ibnu Malik. This model not only overcomes technological limitations but also deepens students' syntactic and morphological understanding, thereby promoting more in-depth linguistic competence. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that curriculum adaptation based on local pedagogical traditions can be an effective alternative in educational environments with limited resources. This study contributes to the discourse on contextual curriculum development in Arabic language teaching in religious educational environments.

Abstract

The waste problem in Tamanan village is an issue that needs serious attention because of its impact on environmental pollution and public health. One of the main challenges is the low awareness of residents, especially elementary school children, in terms of good and correct waste management. A lot of waste is thrown carelessly without sorting, which results in a decrease in the quality of cleanliness and health of the village environment. This community service program aims to improve students' understanding and skills in waste management through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach for 40 days. This program involves students of MI Nurur Rahman and SDN Tamanan 1 as the main subjects. The activities carried out include socialization about the importance of waste management, the delivery of material on types of waste, as well as the practice of sorting organic, inorganic, and B3 waste. In addition, the installation of educational media in the school environment and evaluation monitoring were also carried out. The results of the evaluation showed that 73% of students were able to answer the quiz questions correctly ≥70%, which indicates their good understanding of waste management. Some students also began to implement the habit of separating waste at home and inviting families to participate. Support from village officials and the existence of educational media are expected to strengthen the sustainability of this program. Participatory approaches have proven to be effective in raising environmental awareness and can be implemented sustainably through collaboration between schools, communities, and village governments.

Abstract

Arabic writing skills require systematic and progressive learning with clear stages like concept building, modeling, and practice. However, previous studies have often overlooked the importance of combining structured learning models with contextual themes in improving writing proficiency. Addressing this gap, the present study is going to investigate the application of the Genre-Based Approach using the Teaching Learning Cycles Model in Arabic writing instruction. The study is based upon the theme of Travel. The target population is 32 students. A qualitative approach with a descriptive method was used, whereby data were collected through classroom observation, assignments, tests, FGD, and documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The results show that the GBA with the TLC Model provide gradual learning, through the introduction of concepts, modeling, and practice activities in group and individual settings. It also integrated the 4C skills of 21st-century learning: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Students' learning mastery increased from 39.72% to 87.19% with a mean increase from 60.28 to 81.67 after the intervention. The learning process was also rated positively by observers. This study concludes that GBA with the TLC Model is effective in improving Arabic writing skills through structured, contextual, and collaborative learning experiences.
