This study aims to determine the identity captured from the politeness strategies used by Jo and Amy March on Little Women movie. To analyze the description of politeness strategies used by Jo and Amy March as the main characters in the film, the researcher used the theory of Leech on maxim politeness. Then, this study is using a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results that have found from Jo and Amy Marchâ€™s dialogue, they are dominant using agreement maxim because of a close relationship between their family, and also they have close relation and intensiveness with their sisters.

Compliment is a polite expression of praise and admiration, an action or situation that implies admiration or respect. One of the important features that evaluation produces is compliments: compliments reflect cultural values, beliefs and speaker. Non-linguistic factor that can affect the use of language, such as compliments, is gender. Male and female use different words, so the manner they provide compliments are also different. This study was conducted to discover the male and female compliment patterns and topics used in BTS fansâ€™ comments on the Hybe Labelsâ€™ YouTube channel. The researcher used qualitative descriptive method in this study. It analyzes the form of compliment given by male and female fans to BTS through YouTube comments. This final project explained, analyzed and interpreted the fan compliments to BTS. The results of this study showed that male and female BTS fansâ€™ compliments follow a simple syntax pattern, using adjectival compliments rather than verbs of liking. These compliment topics are appearance, hard work, performance, possession, achievement, skill, and talent. The most used theme in this survey is compliment for skill, primarily from male fans. In summary, there is not much difference between male and female fans when it comes to complementing BTS's Dynamite music video on Hybe Labels' YouTube channel.

Abstract: In this research, the researcher used the descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data of figurative language and stylistics discovered in Taylor Swift's selected song lyrics on the Folklore album. This research is intended to find out the types and meanings of figurative language used in Folklore album, and to find out the types and functions of stylistics used in Folklore album. The researcher found some types of figurative language which is used in Folklore album there are Metaphor 12, Allegory 4, Metonymy 3, Verbal irony 7, Hyperbole 7, Personification 7, Symbol 14, Paradox 11, Simile 12, Synecdoche totem pro parte 1, and Understatement 1. Moreover, it is possible to conclude that figurative language and style of language significantly contribute to song lyrics. So that's why the writer or songwriter uses figurative language and any style of language in sentences to make the song more engaging and to assist readers to think more about the message and the meaning behind it.

Abstract: In this study, researchers used a descriptive qualitative method to analyze data on rhetorical devices and how this was applied in the inauguration speech for the 2021 United States president. This study used theory from Jones and Peccei (2004) and the CDA approach by Van Dijk at the microstructural level. This study aims to find out how the speaker conveys the implied meaning by using rhetorical devices and also to find out how this is constructed in this speech. After data collection, the data is identified and analyzed using rhetorical devices based on the theory of Jones and Peccei 2004 coupled with critical discourse analysis which is limited to the microstructural elements of Van Dijk's theory. The researcher found that the speaker used all kinds of rhetorical devices, except for euphemisms. Those rhetorical devices are metaphor, parallelism, the rule of three, and pronouns. There are 16 devices found in the data. Based on the findings, the most dominant is parallelism, this shows that speakers like to use similar structures in explaining and conveying the contents of speech without changing the context. In addition, it can be concluded that the use of rhetorical devices and critical discourse analysis approaches in delivering speeches can contribute to making speeches more interesting and memorable.

Figurative language is part of the semantic. As we know that with semantic we can know the true meaning in a song. Figurative language is language which employs various figures as speech. This analyzes the figurative languages are used in Adhitia Sofyan's album â€œForget Your Plansâ€. It is expected that the result of this study will be useful for the student of linguistics since this study is done based on the theory of Figurative Language. The benefit of figurative language and category used in this thesis is that the readers will comprehend that such theory can be used to give clearer and better understanding about the meanings of figurative language. Kind of figurative language was found in Adhitia Sofyan song selected songs lyric are paradox, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, rhetoric, allegory, repetition, and antithesis. Figurative language in the song could make the readers understand that the lyric of the song can describe massages that must be known by learning them deeply in terms of categories. This study attempts to provide a description about figurative language in human daily life. The type of data that is used in this study is a qualitative data. The data analyzed in this study are some written texts. The text discuss is song taken from Adhitia Sofyan's album â€œForget Your Plansâ€. By these classifications, we can recognize well which one includes each figurative speech. The result of this study will be able to give contribution to the readers who are interested in learning

Taboo is something that considered bad and inappropriate or forbidden to do, even the words to be spoken freely in language use. It relates to the rules, ethics, and norms between individual relationships with others in an area or society. Taboo words use is one of disfemism types or a form of humanâ€™s expression with use the words that have bad connotations and bad meaning and can hurt the others, people must avoid it with use the more polites words, neutral words or the words can not cause the negative effects or reactions to the others. The author does the research of the taboo words that spoken by the momâ€™s characters in the Bad Moms movie with a descriptive qualitative approach with use sociolinguistic to understand and make the language as the object. The movie tells about the women who take care of all their works and children without helps from the man or their husband, but one day they feel bored with much works they do and want to escape their responsibilities and regain their freedom and pleasure which have been delayed. The purpose of this study is to identify the types and the functions of the taboo words which spoken by the momâ€™s characters of the Bad Momâ€™s movie or the data is taken from the movieâ€™s script. This article tells about the American views of the momâ€™s character or which categorized bad from their daily speech, specially in taboo words use, because speech or discourse can cause an image self or represent theirself.

Persuasion is an important aspect of communication in our daily lives. The main purpose of persuasion is to convince other people to change their belief, attitude and behaviour. Here, the researcher wanted to find out the techniques of persuasion used by Donald Trump in his political speeches in American presidential election 2016. This research was designed by using descriptive qualitative method. here, the researcher used discourse analysis because the researcher tried to study and understand the functional use of language, that was, persuasion which was used by people in their conversation to influence other's attitude, belief and behavior. The data were Donald Trumpâ€™s utterances containing persuasion which were observed from his speeches within American presidential election. The data had represented all data of Donald Trump's speeches. The data were analyzed inductively through the observation done by the researcher himself. In addition, the approach for analyzing the technique of persuasion was based on the Gorys Kerafâ€™s theory of persuasion. It was found that Donald Trump used several techniques of persuasion to get support from the audience and invest his idea in delivering his speeches. These techniques are: rationalization, identification, suggestion, conformities, compensation, displacement and projection.
