Abstract

ABSTRACT Emergency medication storage is a critical aspect of pharmaceutical services, as it directly affects the speed of patient care in emergency situations. This study aims to analyze the suitability of the emergency medication storage system at the Pharmacy Unit of the Gorontalo Regency Health Office based on the Good Drug Distribution Practice (GDDP/CDOB) standards, and to identify the factors influencing it. This study used a descriptive research design with an observational approach. Data were collected through direct observation using a CDOB-based checklist, semi-structured interviews with the responsible pharmacist and warehouse staff, and documentation. The results showed that most aspects of emergency medication storage were in compliance with CDOB standards and classified as very good, including storage room conditions (100%), temperature and humidity control (100%), storage system (100%), segregation (100%), and drug labeling (100%). The operational storage aspect reached 86% compliance, while drug control only achieved 50% due to the presence of damaged and expired medications. Factors influencing the storage system included limited staffing, uneven CDOB training among personnel, limited storage capacity under certain conditions, and human error in stock recording. The implementation of SOPs and the FEFO/FIFO system was found to be well-established. This study concludes that the emergency medication storage system at the pharmacy unit generally meets CDOB standards; however, the drug control aspect still requires improved monitoring of damaged and expired medications.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Emergency trolley is a cart containing medicines and medical devices used to manage emergency conditions such as cardiac arrest and shock. This study aims to determine the suitability of drug completeness in the emergency trolley at the Emergency Department (ED) of Sayang Rakyat Regional General Hospital Makassar based on applicable standards. The research method used descriptive quantitative through direct observation and documentation during January–February 2026. The sample was determined using a total sampling technique on the emergency trolley unit and all drug stocks within it. The quantity evaluation of 21 drug types showed that 17 types were complete (100%), yet a quantity deficit was found in 4 preparations (Amiodarone injection, Isosorbide dinitrate injection, Furosemide injection, and Isosorbide dinitrate tablet 5 mg). Of the total 52 ideal volume units, only 45 physical units were available in the field (achievement 86.54% and deficit 13.46%). In terms of quality, expired preparations (Methyl prednisolone 125 mg injection and Amiodarone injection) and critical near-expiry preparations (Epinephrine injection and Stesolid 5 mg) were found, although 100% of the packaging was in good condition. The study concludes that the drug completeness has not fully met the predetermined standards.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of the combined ethanol extracts of miana leaves (Coleus scutellarioides L.) and guava leaves (Psidium guajava) against Escherichia coli and to evaluate their interaction using the CompuSyn method. This laboratory experimental study employed maceration extraction with 96% ethanol, followed by phytochemical screening, antibacterial testing using the disc diffusion method, One-Way ANOVA, and Combination Index (CI) analysis. The extraction yielded 11.11% for miana leaves and 24.92% for guava leaves. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of flavonoids and alkaloids in both extracts. All extract combinations inhibited E. coli growth, producing inhibition zones ranging from 8.10 to 12.75 mm, indicating moderate to strong antibacterial activity. One-Way ANOVA showed no significant differences among treatment groups (p = 0.837). CompuSyn analysis revealed that most combinations exhibited antagonistic interactions (CI > 1), whereas the combination of 10% guava extract and 20% miana extract showed synergistic effects (CI < 1) in two replicates. Overall, the combined extracts demonstrated antibacterial activity against E. coli, although most combinations did not exhibit synergistic interactions.
